l like this video. From what I understand, the brush isn't meant to curl your hair, it's meant to gather your strands into "curl families' or clumps, to help define the curl pattern you naturally have. I have been on a similar journey. My hair does the same kinked telephone cord trick now and then. I have learned to ignore it :o). Curlsmith products are great! Like others have said, try to do your hair routine on soaking wet hair, adding more water with hands or a spray bottle, as needed. This will help with more evenly distributing the product. You can always remove excess moisture later, with a microfibre towel. Trust the process, your hair will do better with things that don't work for others and vice versa. My most important lesson in my wavy/curly hair journey was to stop trying to get the same results as others who had different hair than mine. I could admire their curls and waves and also my own, even if they were not identical. I have low density, fine, 2a-3a waves and curls. Small amounts of product and just using one or maybe two products works best for me. Let your hair show you how it likes to be! Try not to rely heavily on product to achieve a result. It's only there to support what you already have. I wish you well in your journey. Your hair is truly beautiful. I hope you learn to love it more and finally find that goldilocks routine. Thanks for the video!

@@HenloHomeI thought I was alone in many of my hair struggles too. Thank goodness for KZfaq, though I have to say it can also create unnecessary envy or a false sense of need to try a product in the hopes it will give me the same results the user gets. Embrace your natural self. Who you are on the inside will shine through. Be yourself…….everyone else is taken.

Chloe, thank you for this! 1. Start with wetter hair. 2. Use either curl cream or a leave-in conditioner (sparingly) all over your hair. 3. Follow with a mousse if you have any, if not, who cares. 4. Perfect gel choice! Follow Curlsmith directions, work gel throughout your hair, then use a brush (I'd use the brush you're demonstrating) thoroughly distributing all products you've applied. Brush upside down too! 5. Style with tha Bounce Curl Brush and then diffuse just the way you did here Maybe you could record it? I know this curly hair illiterate would LOVE to see how this might change your results. We always get to see how perfectly the influencer's results are, but what about us??

Hey there, great video!! It sounds like we have similar curl patterns. I would suggest using a spray bottle to keep your hair soaking wet and section your hair when you’re putting your product in and then using the brush. I use a spray leave in conditioner with heat protection then I use a curl cream. After doing the brush I apply a mousse and then a gel. Then I diffuse. You will definitely find a technique that works for you in time!!!

I have seen others use a spray bottle, too actually.. I might have to try it! Thank you for your thoughts, suggestions, and vote of confidence!

You're hair is soooooo much like mine! Mine is just a little thicker and a tiny bit more wavy/curly. I am also new on this hair journey and just bought that brush. It's a process and can be very frustrating at times. I think I'm going to start keeping a hair journal and write down what I did to my hair that morning (if I washed, what products I used, etc.) and the results that day. I think right now I may be using too many different products and not giving any a chance to really work. Also, I'm never going to get comfortable only washing my hair a couple of times a week. I work with children under the age of 5 and am covered in germs each day. I definitely need more of a wash and wear routine. I like Curly Susie - she does a wash and wear routine for people who have to wash their hair more often. Good luck and thanks for making this video - it is refreshing to see a beginner try put these products.

oohh a hair journal sounds like a great idea! I'd love to hear how that goes. Amazing work you're doing with children at such a young age :) i'll have to look up Curly Susie -- I also have times where I need to wash my hair more often and I don't know what to do! thank you so much for watching and commenting~

Your hair is super similar to mine. I have a few tips: wide tooth comb in the shower while rinsing so you’re smoothing down the hair with the water. Then only lightly blot the water out with a microfibre towel at the bottom of the hair - again to keep it smooth and naturally clumped. Put in *all* your products by sectioning the wet hair and use praying hands - don’t scrunch. Squish with the towel again if ends get too wet. Then go through with your brush to style it. Air dry or use the diffuser by holding it on the side of your head - never scrunching it up into the bowl. Dry it to like 80 or 90%. Only then if you want some volume, flip it over and use the diffuser on the underside of your hair - it should fluff up when you flip it back over, but avoiding the scrunching other people do. Scrunching makes my hair a tangly ugly mess.

I JUST bought a wide tooth comb because of your comment... it arrives on Saturday and I can't wait to try it! I honestly have been afraid to try diffusing without bunching it up in the bowl because I'm so afraid it will dry really loose and not structured. But I am open to not having my fears met... I won't know til I try it! Thank you for all your suggestions, I will try it out!

I just want to say that although we have different hair typing I can 100% relate to your struggle in high school because I didn’t know how to take care of curly hair. I literally paid for multiple Brazilian blow outs for straight hair and got told all the time people pay for your curly hair lol. Only since the pandemic did I start learning how to style my hair. No more flat ironing!! Thanks for this video you said some very real things that made me feel less alone in this world

Right!! Goodness I am so happy we found each other... some people do not understand lol. Incredible that you do not flat iron anymore! What a journey, huh? And it's not even over. I'm so glad I found folks who can relate, it also makes me feel less alone XOXO

I was looking for opinions on this brush, so your video was very helpful to me. I do have a Denman brush, but don’t use it very often. I may have a bit more curl than you do, and my hair is 90% white now. I have had fairly thick, silky soft hair that is just fuzzy frizz. I only learned that mine was curly about four years ago. I think that if you shake the strands a little harder and follow that right away with some upward scrunching, it will work better for you. I agree with others that it needs to be wetter, too. You may want to hold the brush vertically as you make the strands. I think it will make your hair into more coils.

You did great! 👏🏻 It's a huge learning curve and you will get there! It's just a matter of figuring out what products/combination of products work best for you. 😉 I have gray, fine wavy/curly hair and I get the best results by applying products in the shower, just before I step out, when my hair is sopping wet. At this point, I'm pretty much only using a curl cream but sometimes I'll use a little gel or a mousse/foam, too. I'm sure since this video is from a couple months ago, you're much more comfortable styling it by now! ❤

definitely not more comfortable by now *cries* applying products in the shower is a good tip! I'll try different things out, I have curl cream and mousse also, I am still experimenting like you said on what combo works. thank you for your advice and vote of confidence! I am sure I will find my way. (eventually lol)

So glad you made this video. I feel like I’m not alone! I have struggled with my hair since it turned curly in middle school. I’ve always just scrunched gel in and went on my day hating my hair. The last year I’ve learned different things to help me learn to love my curls (ie. Learned to diffuse, learned to use products) via KZfaq which wasn’t really around my younger years. But I struggle with how to section hair and not good with the different techniques 😊

Thank you for this video. I am trying to learn my curly hair and I’m watching all of these videos to get tips but this is the first one I’ve seen of someone who isn’t a hair pro. By pro I mean someone who uses these tools and their hair comes out perfect. I know it takes practice and I’m going to put the work in and I’m sure you are doing the same. Thank you for this video

there is a hair stylist that does KZfaq videos. she puts her gel on using what she calls prayer hands. You put each hand on opposite sides, you start at the top and lightly touch you hair,, you dont pull or push hard on it. She has a lot of video's on hair and she explains everything. you did a great job on your hair. looks great. thank you for this video.

When your hair cools down from the dryer touch it, especially at the roots, as gently as possible. If any part of your hair is cold, it’s still wet. Also, try using k18. It really helped my curls come back. You can use conditioner with K18 so long as you wait 4 min first, then add conditioner and let it sit then rinse and continue to style as normal. best of luck ❤

OOoohh good tip on the cold hair, I will try that! Oh I had bought K18 but a little small sampler thingy -- I could definitely use more of the leave-in. I didn't think of using conditioner after the K18, I think that will help too! Thank you for stopping by

One suggestion for you- I hope it helps! If you feel that the gel is sticky, it could be pulling the hair strands away from each other (creating frizz) as you scrunch. You could try applying it with wet hands or to hair that has been freshly dampened with a spray bottle. 💛

ooooh thanks for the tip, that makes sense!

I suggest that you watch more videos because you did not apply the products correctly and your hair was not wet enough. You should section your hair into small sections to apply the product and apply it from roots to ends. Also, it did not look like you angled the brush correctly to get the clumping that you should have been able to achieve with using that brush. I’m glad you saw positive results, but a more practice will give improved results. We all have gone on a journey to learn our hair and how to live in harmony with it. Fare thee well in your hair adventure.

The diffuser is heat, but it’s not direct heat. It’s more spread out therefore less damaging. 😁
