From what I can tell he is a pawn of the ruling class who are orchestrating the destabilization of the country and a distraction for international media to latch onto. Western media has made him the face of the problem because having one bad guy (or anti-hero to some) with a funny nickname as the top gang leader in power is an easier narrative to sensationalize, push, and follow than having to explain complex layers of economic and political corruption from Haitian oligarchs and international powers funding domestic terrorism. Literally go on KZfaq and most reports about this situation will use Barbecue as the thumbnail. They’ve made him the face and it’s working.
