We would like to introduce you to a valuable manual elevator that conveys the history of Hakodate.
This Otis elevator was installed in 1934.
Known as the oldest one north of the Tohoku region,
Its retro charm continues to fascinate visitors.
This elevator, which you can actually experience at the Hakodate City Regional Community Development Center,
It's like traveling through time.

About the building
The Hakodate branch of Marui Imai Gofukuten was built in 1923 and was originally a three-story building.
We adopted a Western-style "early modern revival style" architectural style.
In 1930, the 4th and 5th floors were added, and the building burned down in the Great Hakodate Fire of 1934, but
It resumed operations in the same year. Later, as a department store,
It was then used as the Hakodate City Hall branch office building.
In 1989, it was designated as a designated landscape formation building by Hakodate City.
Renovations were carried out between 2005 and 2007.
In 2007, we will make a new start as a community development center.
The building retains its distinctive exterior, and the oldest elevator north of Tohoku has also been preserved.
