The sword spear can easily also be farmed in the weeping peninsula, the enemies surround the minor erd tree and drop them consistently.

Historically speaking halbert's were the best weapon back in the day before guns. They had reach they could Pierce armor and they could chop off limbs or a head it was a very effective weapon

Dragon Halberd has proved monstrously strong for a rl1 playthrough in my experience, a nice extra pro to add to the list.

3:26 you forgot to mention that the ripple crescent halberd has an interesting interaction with greases, because Blood Loss build-up, Poison build-up, Sleep build-up, and Madness build-up scales with arcane, the ripple crescent halberd can be a really great for status build up

I beat the game using almost only halberds and I have to say they are one of most fun and versatile weapon classes, and I'm glad that you have done a very well made video going over all the halberds with careful detail.

A unique property you forgot to mention about the ripple halberd: Blood, poison and sleep grease buildup increases depending on your arcane stat when applied to it. This is especially devastating in PVP where you can proc sleep on an opponent in only two running R1 pokes.

did my first playthrough with the swordspear. back then EVERYONE slept on that weapon, but I loved it. its good to see it being praised now; like an old colleague has become successful

Something you forgot to mention about the Lucerne: Every one of its attacks does pierce damage. It's probably still a poor choice for halberd play, but you can get that much more mileage out of the spear talisman (high poise with a hyperarmor AoW could make you a trading god).

I can’t not powerstance halberds, you get massive damage, a badass move set and you get to use some of the most hardest hitting weapons in the game. 11/10 highly recommend for anyone looking for something new and fun.

I need to play this game more.. I spend around 100 hours split out on 3 characters.. I never finished the game. But it's the most fun I've had in a game for ages, and I don't even like souls games.. That is just a testament to how well crafted this game is 👌

The pests glove also gives you a boost to your resistances. So I might have less damage however it does make you a bit more defensive

I did a quality build with the dragons halberd, two handing it, and it was absolutely mental when you buff with golden vow and commanders standard, and the lightning scorpion charm and Alexander's shard. It's actually insane, and did great damage on into ng+6

The best thing about the ripple crescent halberd is because it scales in arcane, it also does crazy build up of weapon grease like sleep, blood, and poison. Which is pretty fun to play around with.

I feel like all ice lighting weapons need a buff, not on damage but on how long the ice lighting stays on your weapons.

I think the video desperately needs a final conclusion in the end, highlighting the few halberds that clearly outshine others in terms of AR or scaling in certain infusions etc.

I used Loretta’s War Pickle a lot in my first run through at end game. I was running Strength/Int build with a particular focus on frost spells. This weapon was pretty good and I would often use it if I didn’t feel like using the heavy thrusting sword (frost). I like my long reaching weapons.

I played through Elden twice, and both times I ended up running dual Guardian's Swordspear with Thunderbolt and a melee oriented ash. I ran 12 faith for Bestial Vitality and Flame, Cleanse me via the 0 weight Frenzied Flame Seal. It didn't actually end up as a "jump attack build", though I did use the jump attack quite a bit. Literally every single attack in the dual GSS kit is useful. It's such a well designed weapon.

Ice Spear on the basic Halberd + a shield really unlocked the game for me as I was kind of floundering trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

A litle thought for the golden halberd is with the ash of war, it's a lot easier to activate mid combat, so you could use the incantation before the fight, and when it runs out apply the AoW instead

Great vid, love this weapon type. I started off as a vagabond and just fell in love with the range. Updated to Dragon now and having a blast close to endgame.

I'm still working through my first play through if the game and I've used banished knights halberd for the whole thing. Its not as powerful as other weapons but it's just something my brain latched onto and have loved as I now approach defeating Maliketh. Good solid weapon. 👌

I'm loving these videos, but I think one major way to improve them would be to not repeat things that you've already mentioned several times in the video. I find you repeat things in slightly re-worded sentences very often in these videos and considering they are already bordering 30 minutes, cutting down on that would be nice

I’m definitely going to start using the Dragon Halberd

My first run and full clear run is double halberd. Generals buff off hand. Banished or night's main. Their power stance options of attack cover every situation. The back step double thrust, crouch double slam, power stance chain, and quick single pokes give you an option for every situation.

My STR character primarily uses NightRider Glaive with a variety of Ashes. In NG+ I got TWO'A DEM THANGS!!

So ready for the breakdown of the spears and curved swords to come. I've spent far too long on the weapons section of the wiki trying to figure out what to use for my builds.

The Commander's Standard really shines when you're using it like a commander - with other troops. The 30 FP cost is really worth it if you're using something like the Greatshield or Mausoleum Knights because then you're buffing the attack and defense of 6 units for 30 seconds. They also make the longer casting animation less of an issue because they're pulling aggro while you buff _EVERYONE._ My first playthrough, I used this along with the Jellyfish Shield because the thrusting attack allows you to make the best use of its superior range and poke for HUGE damage. That shield also lets you have an alternative buff to attack for yourself for just 5FP… _and both buffs can stack._ As I had buffs on my main weapon and shield, I would occasionally swap out to a staff in my main hand at range, because I had a shieldwall of units to tank damage and pull aggro while raining down magic on opponents. Add to that the fact that the Terra Magicka spell and the Magic Shrouding Cracked Tear _ALL STACK_ with the previous buffs, and you have a build that will justify a bigger investment in more FP. You can deal with anything quite handily, and it takes _zero_ investment in Faith or Arcane. For me it was ideal for a start as a Prisoner focused on a Str/Int build that lets you really leverage melee, magic, & summons.

This time, the title is actually correct :) I beat the game with dual halberds (and rekt malenia with them!) and am currently melting face with halberds in PVP =) Especially the "stabby" ones like banished knights

You really missed the fact that the banished knights halberd on a cold infusion has a "C C B" scaling which is insane plus high frost build up...

thrusting R1 is my fav type of R1, so simple yet so effective

My build i had a lot of fun with as a strength scaling halberd user 1).night rider's glaive in main hand with the sword dance ash of war (the 3 hit one) (make sure you scale it by heavy). 2).in the off hand use the gargoyle's halberd just infuse any ash of war and scale it in heavy. 3).make sure you make your character have atleast 56 poise to make it so that at the very least you can resist lower end enemy attacks but 67 poise is more advised. 4). if you want you can use a seal of any kind really in your off hand to make your attacks do what ever damage more (lightning or bloodflame) 5). just jump power stance attack enemies (even bosses) and this will give you pretty much enough poise break damage to follow up with another power stance attack with both halberds. 6). as a recommendation, i suggest that you use a great shield that had 100 physical damage reduction for speedy enemies that either teleport around or dodge quckly (or just kill them in the first jump power stance + power stance attack combo) 7). 60 vigor, ~10 mind (higher mind but only if you first meet other requirements), 40-45 endurance 22-80 strength (level this as you go after you get all other requirements), 10 dex, 10 intelligence, 15-inf faith (only if using electrify armament), and 12-inf arcane (only 12 arcane is needed if you want to be using the bloodflame enchant) 8). have fun as i did.

You forgot to mention Pest's Glaive increases your Elemental Damage Negation, and that PG and Glaive do Slash Damage.

I remember dragon lightning was buffed a lot at some point, so I wonder if that effect on the Dragon Halberd was also buffed. If so it might be S tier now.

I hope daggers get done soon. I want to see their application past stealth and bleeding.

I feel like the power stance moveset on halberds needs more love. Especially with the poke moveset. Commanders standard main hand and currently babished offhand. You have a decently quick and flinching stab light, a great paired roll attack that closes you in if you roll out and has good poise damage and just good damage generally. Same goes for the jump attack. If you are outnumbered you have massive stager and very wide swings on your power stance attacks (running L1 is a standout) you also have a good damage cc jump attack with your jump R2 and a really generous swing with the rolling R1. Basically you have a tool for every situation at the cost of a slightly awkward wind up. In souls games I've heard scythes called trickster weapons and wanted to use them because that sounded like a cool idea. Scythes failed to offer this in er, but halberds succeeded with flying colors.

Found the golden halberd and never went back. Its too good

Forgot to mention the pest glaive has a special passive that increases damage negation. Not generally applicable but as its the only weapon that does that, it's worth mentioning.

Surprised you didn’t mention the counter damage on Lucerne. Enemies in active frames of attacking become vulnerable to pierce damage. Boosted further by spear talisman. It’s my favourite weapon to throw endure on.

The normal gargoyle weapon look so cool when buffed with lightning, making the wax glow.

Halberd are one of the few weapons I hate fighting. Sick of constantly getting sprint poked and being unable to land a hit of my own

Loved this weapon type when I used it my first play through on release with the militia halberd dual wield when I noticed it loved the move set super happy it’s noticed how good it is

I love the guardian sword spear, but its unique R1 attacks have deceptively short range, despite the weapon itself being far from the shortest. If I need to hit something a little farther away, I just use the jumping R1 instead as it is the default downward smash attack of other halberds, making better use of the sword spear's actual length.

I love your videos on builds and weapons. I think I'm reaching my end of game play though. Beat the game on my main, he's almost 200.....blasphemous blade, ancient dragon lightning build. I've played a little in NG+, I've tried building new characters as well.....its just not holding my interest since I made it to the end game.

Is it just me, or is the comment on how the Guardian's Swordspear is an excellent weapon with the thunderbolt ash of war remind you of how the Nameless King from DS3 used a swordspear that had the exact same weapon art? (the DS3 equivalent of an ash of war)

Dragon halberd has bonus damage vs dragons. 10-15% I think according to the wiki. It does lightning damage which is bad vs the many many lighting dragons in the game but is probably ok against other dragons due to doing standard/pierce dmg. I imagine it's still bad. Commander's standard also buffs mimics and allies. If your friend isn't using sacred vow to overwrite it then 20% dmg/negation on your summons and ally means it's like 80%/80% overall. The downsides are the long cast time and fp like you mentioned and it's kinda not great for your own dmg. I was thinking vulgar militia saw might be good against dragons when you're not allowed to use a horse (Farum Azula) since you can't lock onto their legs. But if its range is short that's a huge downside.

They really should have put a different Ash of War for Lorettas Sickle. Either Sorcery Cast on Heavy or that 3 Beam Glinstone attack Loretta uses instead. Oh well, the weapon at least has aesthetic which is most important thing to me in these games :)

The ripple Cresent halberd is for grease and status effects. It sleeps bleeds frosts like crazy with grease because of high arcane scaling

Do you know what would be cool to be added? Pollaxes as a weapon class. I know the lucerne exists but there should be more pollaxes. The 2 handed R1 should be should be some attacks with the axe part R2 should be some thrusts The running attack be similar to the running attack from ds1 of the halberd but with the hammer part. Backstep attack should be a attack with the hammer part from the side that combos into 2 handed R1. Roll/crouch attack should be a attack from the bottom with the hammer part. Fuck unrealistic shit like dual wielding attacks and 1 handing one
