The strategies described in my advanced trade guide are no longer enough to help you prosper, not after the political reforms that changed the economy for the worst. As such, I feel it is my obligation to share all of the cutthroat corporate tactics that helped me lay the foundation for my own medieval megacorp, and eventually dominate the world.

If I could change one thing about this video I'd try to not repeat the stuff I've already said in my previous guides, but at the same time, I felt that was the only way of completing the gaps I've left due of my ignorance at the time.
While working on this video, I realized I could have split all the info between 4 separate videos, maybe more. That would've taken less time and effort, allowing for more frequent uploads and possibly more watch time, as people are more likely to click on a 10 minute video than on a 40 minute video. But a mega-tutorial is an entirely different experience altogether, and I'm proud of how this one turned out. If it doesn't perform well however, I will have to resort to doing my videos like that, from now on. The overall quality would be lower, but that's what youtube prefers.
This video was supposed to be out 3 hours earlier, but the project was so complex that it couldn't be rendered correctly and was full of errors. I fixed all of the problems I've faced, but knowing my luck, some other problems arised in the second version of the video. Let me know if anything looks out of place. There's nothing I can do about it, but I'm not watching this video again. 20 times is enough.
I had no inspiration about what thumbnail to use for this video, so I just took the mobile games approach: level 1 thug, level 15 gangster, level 35 boss. I think it represents the trader playstyle pretty well.

A merchant trade for profit. Profits are the rewards you get for taking the risks to attempt to solve people's problems/needs. The more urgent and important is the need, the more people are willing to pay to solve it. But on the other hand, more urgent needs attrack more people willing to profit from it, thus increasing competition and balancing the prices. That's why a piece of rock (diamond) has a much higher value than a cup of water, but that changes if you're dying on a desert. That's also why socialism always fail, because the useless bureaucrats trying to "plan" the economy with intervetions and regulation end up twisting these price signals and disrupt the incentive to supply the urgent needs, generating scarcity.
@maximo161197
@maximo161197 3 жыл бұрын
@@samirSch the first part of what you said is true yet not the whole story. It's a half truth. It wouldn't be if it wasn't for the fact that the environment in which a human operates is not only the condition but also the conditioned of the action. If there is an imbalance you can make profit of it while bringing balance and this is not a bad thing, quite the contrary actually. I agree with you that this is in fact the good thing about a market of free operating agents. But if you have enough economic power, in comparison with other agents of your market, you can also intentionally create an imbalance in such a market in order to profit from it, and this is a bad thing, as such an imbalance has social consequences. The market is free if you have rules that prevent dominance of agents over agents. If there are no rules to prevent dominance it isn't free anymore, it's savage. I don't know where you're from but your notion of socialism is very narrow. This is not necessarily a problem. It depends on which experiences you put under such a narrow concept. Stalin's URSS? Yes. Italy between the 50' and the 80'? No. I mean you could at least distinguish between democratic socialism of European countries and what is usually referred to as communism. I'm guessing you are from the USA or very exposed to USA's culture through KZfaq.
@samirSch
@samirSch 3 жыл бұрын
@@maximo161197 Not really. It's too hard to concentrate economic power in a free market because there are no barriers against competition. The "rules that prevent the dominance" on free market is the free competition. If you take that away, you don't have a "free market" anymore, you'll have corporativism, fascism or some other kind of socialism. Bureaucrats intervention or "regulations" can only help create that dominance. That's why you have billionaires like Soros and big corps supporting Lefties and their taxpayer funded bailouts. Your prejudice is also baseless: I'm from Brazil.
@Jupiter__001_
@Jupiter__001_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@samirSch My main counter-example of it being "too hard to concentrate economic power in a free market" is Rockefeller's oil monopoly. He created this by bribing all the shipping and railway companies with lucrative contracts to only ship his oil. Therefore, this killed the entirety of his competition, and he continued unopposed until government intervention broke up his monopoly into many companies. You only believe what you do about a free market because you have been told it and it sounds nice, not because you have observed it or because it makes sense. Truly laissez-faire free market economies always end up as slave-labour driven drug dens harbouring warlords, like Afghanistan or warlord-era China. Child sex-slaves and anthrax dispensers have market-demand, so a truly free market would allow them. I will never understand anarcho-liberals.

I sort of love how this video goes from "Trade some goods where it's needed, make a little money on the side." and then goes through deliberately destabilising economies, creating unsustainable settlements just to enrich yourself, using your influence and power to deliberately destabilising and sabotage entire regions, establishing monopolies and cannibalising your assets after you're done with them, until eventually you're creating psuedo-banana republics and creating a military-industrial complex. Thank goodness there's absolutely no real life parallels here, eh? :p

A few more tips for becoming an entrepreneurial god of Calradia. 1) You can boost your initial capital significantly by selling weapons from some backgrounds during character creation. For instance, I did Jareeds (Aserai skirmisher background) and a Fullered mace (Vlandian infantry). 2) Marry as soon as possible. Look through Encyclopedia to find a lad or a lass with the armour you want, find her/him, approach... With some points in Charm or some savescumming, you'll get what you want. You'll pay around 4-5k to get exceptional armour and weapons. As far as I know, Ira of the Southern Empire is the easiest, but I don't like her. I guess undressing your spouse shall be fixed in later patches) 3) The prices of some items fluctuate a lot while sold, while the others (mostly raw materials) does not. For instance, selling 30-40 pieces of iron or to a town can change its price from 85 to 35, while selling 100-200 loads of grain changes its price from 21 to 17. When selling goods to caravans or villages, prices don't fluctuate at all! Use it to your advantage. For instance, sell some expensive stuff which fluctuates to nearby villages before entering a town (not vice versa!). 4) You can trade with competing caravans. Prices are bad, but they are adjusted to the territory they currently pass. For instance, I liked to buy hardwood in Battania for 6-7 and then dump it to all the caravans I meet in Aserai (my favourite territory). It's more profitable than selling it to towns because of fluctuation (while caravans buy for a fixed price). 3-4 caravans have as much money as an average town. 5) Battania is the best region for fast trading. All the towns are close to each other, at the same time, they have some disparity in prices. Seonon - Lageta is one of the easiest and the fastest profitable routes. 6) When a faction is ravaged by wars, selling horses in their towns yields exorbitant profits. I remember selling Aserai horses for 3.5k each (bought for 600-900) and Desert horses for 500 (bought for 150-200). Slightly better than travelling with several thousands of grain sacks. 7) Keep 10-30 of expensive items (jewelry, velvet, leather etc.) in your inventory. You spoil the price if you sell them at once, but you can sell some of them for a huge profit per item in almost every town you visit. It's like a good habit. No encumbrance, no additional time spent, no risks.

Awesome as always bud ! I spent the last week watching your vids "the ultimate B.L" plus the trade guides you posted earlier trying to apply concepts and it worked greatly , ONE THING I wish if you can check if it's a bug or intended about trade levelling , I noticed specially early on the game just trading (using memory no perks yet) doesn't contribute to levelling I can say almost zero , I was confused I noticed that dumbing a good in one place is some times good for money but NOT for levelling !? Take grain as an example I buy for 7~8 and dumb all of it one place for 15~18 yet zero contribution to skill untill I figured out THE HARD WAY about the DEMAND system you just spoke of lmaooo Selling beyond the demand point RUIN the levelling contribution despite the price profits which is hard to monitor before the COLOR MARK system from perks . Anyway am so glad you brought it up in details , made sense to me Keep up the great work

The only time I couldn't level my trade skill at all was when I was playing a raider character with SOCIAL 2 and 0 focus points in trade. I was doing some trades, because it was good early money, but I got no skill points after the skill's learning limit of 20 was reached. Other than that, I've never had troubles leveling my skill. And when I got lucky enough to buy grain with 8, I could sell it with 12-10 and still make skill points.... but who knows? Maybe beta 1.5 ruined trade again? I'll have to check.

Tl;dr: Merchants have been nerfed in beta 1.5.4. . If you play on that patch, IGNORE TRADING! And if you want to play as a merchant: lock your game's version to patch 1.5.3. (Steam Library > Right Click Bannerlord > Properties > Betas > select 1.5.3. from the drop-down menu) Now to expand that subject, for whoever wants to know why I just said that. I recently had the pleasure of playing a bit on the 1.5.4. beta patch, and I came to realize that Taleworlds nerfed the Merchant playstyle to an extreme degree. The Fief Trading perk got moved to level 300 of the Trade skill, which you have to grind MANUALLY (caravans and workshops are supposed to contribute some passive XP to this skill, but that's currently not implemented). And that's not all: Siege Trading (the act of buying cheap goods and then taking them to a town under siege, or even laying siege to it by yourself), which is by far the most ruthlessly capitalistic move you can do, barely contributes any points to your skill, because nowadays, all towns are stocked with months worth of food and materials. Maybe there's still an efficient way to grind enough skill points to get the perk "Everything has a price", but I haven't found it yet, and because I'll be moving onto Cyberpunk for a few months, I have no time to compile a 4th trade guide. With all this said, I have a feeling Taleworlds are planning to re-balance this skill by making it easier to level up, because having to grind a single skill until your character is 60 years old - only for him to die of old age a day after achieving your objective - doesn't sound like good game balance. And also... why did they have to nerf trading so much when SMITHING can still make you millions in a single day?!?!?! C'mon now! Trade was a bit on the stronger side, I admit, but that nerf hits way too hard, rendering your merchant campaign unplayable. When trade is finally balanced, I'll edit this pinned comment to reflect that.

It's really bad bruv. They literally have nerfed every single legitimate method of making money. Your methods may be ruthless, but as an American, I consider them legitimate and the correct way to play the money game.

i see no problem with cityies having suplys for months they only have 20-30k denars my javelins cost 111k pennys i just buy litterly everything in exchange for a bundle of 5 pointy sticks declare war wait until some lords decide its a good idea to run there 150 soldiers and 600 pesants in my army of archers on an open field for some renown influence and at this point worthless loot (but hey +5 relation for each lord that has atacked, don't take em prisoner) now i can simply take the city sell my stuff now its up to me take the garrison with me and let them take there town back and repeat that after a few days or just keep it (Vlandia now consist of 4 imprissoned lords thanks to my companions)

I love your instructional and the previous one you made. I mostly do global and trail traiding. My biggest money-maker is stocking up on food and then looking for a sieged town, then selling to all the starving people. 🤗 I hope they don't patch it. Also, good profit comes from buying from villages.

There's no reason to patch it, selling to besieged towns is supposed to be profitable.

What i do with the shop shifting is: create monopolly. Pen Havoc or whatever is called, for example. Has alot of clay villages, so i buy and switch all of the workshops there for pottery. then i search for all potteries in other towns, buy them, switch to whatever, and sell. Now i know where to sell my clay at high prize and where to buy my pottery at low prizes, and go sell them at other towns.

I know this isn't new or anything but I thought id share something I found on accident pertaining to the smithing hustle. Buy wood (duh) get the 25 perk for more coal (duh) BUT lookout for wooden hammers. Super cheap and if you smelt them down you get a piece of metal and 3 wood for each. Use your main Smith to turn the wood back into coal, and use every other follower to dismantle the hammys. More wood less travel ☺

i just got the game like 2 days ago and so far without even starting any main quest, i just been trading, buying green selling green and ive accumulated up to 41k shekels so far. i think i should invest into some market places now :0. ill create a steady source of passive income before i start the ultimate hand rubbing shenanigans. and that is creating markets that the villages outside of town dont support to cut them out and i take it all. ill watch more of your videos on that so i can understand it more. so cool though haha.
