half•alive’s album 'Conditions Of A Punk’ out now everywhere.
Steam / download : halfalive.lnk....
“Make of it” is a story in which worlds not only interconnect but bleed into one another in a messy display of beautiful-humanity. Often, we must drown to land, sink to swim, move to heal, and dive to the deepest depths to breathe again.
When Josh showed me this song in July 2020, I wrote this video treatment right away. Almost too quickly. I didn't understand why so many specific characters and images came out of me upon hearing "MOI" for the first time. As the edit was finalizing, I realized that every aspect of this music video had already been a part of my subconscious for precisely 26 years. It was a wild journey to get this from paper to the internet, but … this is my love letter to those doing anything they can to heal by any means necessary.

LYRICS
winter got me feeling down
next season i’ll come around
reflecting back on it
you were my only friend
you really helped me out
but even now i--
want this love like everyone
want this love like everyone else
we ran aground
i heard it loud
can’t pretend
i ain’t down
didn’t plan
to never land
just never thought
that we could drown
therapy saw me naked
26 years i’ve waited
life isn’t what i made it
my past is what i make of it
make of it
make of it
like these new shoes
i'll break em in
old best friends
i'll pray for ‘em
all my friends
i'll pray for ‘em
lost what i have never held
hardly recognize myself
brought to the deepest end
God help me breath again
tell me have i been alone
all along?

When he says therapy saw him naked I don't think he means showing your pain and burdens of your past to a therapist, but more of showing them to yourself. Acknowledging what you've gone through and what led up to this point is the first step to dealing with it. Once you acknowledge your own pain for what it is, it becomes merely what you decide to make of it.

can we all agree that josh being drenched after listening to everyone's problems symbolises empathy?? I have another idea about it too, that maybe it's showing that even the therapist is drowning in the bad too, everyone is going through something.

"I have another idea about it too, that maybe it's showing that even the therapist is drowning in the bad too, everyone is going through something." This was my reading of this too. Like even therapists can drown,.

As a therapist, I say yes to the second theory AND I think the first theory is probably correct too. In Everything Machine Josh is clearly speaking about codependency, so I think maybe this symbolizes how a person's lack of boundaries in relationships (aka: becoming the "therapist friend") can lead to what we call "compassion fatigue".

I think this may be the *BREAKFAST* of this album... and considering that's my favorite h•a song and one of my favorite songs of all time, there's really no higher praise I can give it. What a personally touching song. Edit: I ended up loving *Move Me,* *Hot Tea,* and *Back Around* even more, but this song still holds a special place in my heart.

BREAKFAST is easily my favorite song by them, I still am not sure about Make of It yet because honestly I’m into slower stuff. I really liked Time2 though! I kinda saw that as an evolution of BREAKFAST. What I definitely hope they do is something in the vain of creature, something that could basically be a worship song.

aight thinking time. So i feel like this was almost a very late part2 for Aawake at Night. both songs' lyrics (from my assumptions) are basically about someone worrying for themself and asking God why, why they can't understand their being, why they can't do while not facing consequences and hurting others. They are songs about cofused people with cofused thoughts. But now (referring to this song as the present)the speaker from Aawake at Night has found love and some sense of their footing, or so they believe. They're realising that growing up and loving isn't all they thought itd be. Both songs use drowning to describe their helplessness ("And I've been drowning in this restless mind", "Brought to the deepest end God, help me breathe again"). In Aawake at Night, the person longs for something more than dreaming for things to get better, and in Make Of It this person had faced life, and still knows that they decide what they want it to be. They want help their friends and lover and all the in-betweens because they understand the Bliss of their newfound freedom. They still carry their flaws, but they don't let those problems drench their clothes and pull them back down underwater. they manage them and live life all the while. Ik this is mad messy but rlly felt the need to get this all down somewhere. there isn't some grand plot i intended on portraying with this, but i did want to point out the bridges and similarities between these two songs.

This song has changed my life. . .I’m not sure I didn’t write it in my own mind and made it a reality to hear it right when I needed it. Thank you for this 😍

I didn't know what to expect from a follow-up to Now, Not Yet. It's so carefully composed and expertly delivered. But with each new track I feel more and more that the new album will be just as incredible, if not better.
