Daryl Hall and John Oates, live at Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, AU. Recorded February 8, 2012.
When Daryl Hall and John Oates took to the stage at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre as the iconic bass line of ‘Maneater’ began to play, the fans knew they were in for a treat.
This duo may have been opening concerts with that irresistibly smooth number for years, but it never seems to lose its magic, and the crowd - an eclectic mix of teens and baby boomers alike - lapped it up.
Daryl Hall and John Oates wisely reunited a few years ago after a string of solo projects, and although Oates no longer sports his signature ‘tache, they put on the kind of show that makes it hard to believe they even considered going their separate ways. Earworms like ‘I Can’t Go For That’, ‘Out Of Touch’ and ‘Kiss On My List’ were surefire reminders that these guys are absolute hit machines, and their catchy synth-soul classics probably deserve to permeate the airwaves as much today as they did decades ago.
These Philly crooners still have it in bucket-loads, so this show should have everyone from diehard Daryl Hall and John Oates fans to kids of the 80s groovin’ along in no time.

As much as I love Daryl, having a hidden talent like Jon Oates and him quite willing to hide from the limelight with this amazing voice is quite astounding. Even the dodgy equipment, and normal flaws in performances seem to hold him in the highest regard and come together to produce flawless sounding songs when he sings. His performance of Possession Obsession in the Liberty concert went straight into my top 10 songs ever without any resistance at all. I am no master of their music, but it is remarkable how he has this gift of being capable of stealing the show, whilst remaining reserved. It is the apparent effortlessness that is the puzzling thing.

People are commenting about the high notes. As any singer gets older, their voices deepen and it's hard to reach the high notes that they did when they were younger. Most singers change the key of the songs when they sing them live to accommodate for that or they do a little rearranging of the notes. It's Not unusual at all.

I agree with the sad truth of the deteriorating vocal ability of aged singers. That said, I wish they had adjusted his vocals to his current abilities and folled in the jogh notes with backupvsingers. There is no shame there as most performers adjust to accomidate their voices as they lose abilities. They were most famous when I was a teen and I love them. It saddens me to see him struggling. The induction is well deserved, but this just made me sad.

They also drop keys to bring songs into their range when they are young. Some of us sound better in certain keys. Transposing in the official term. The song is completely flat anyway. It does not have the high flighting lead riffs and fills.

My wife & I were at this concert in Sydney 2012! I saw them at the same venue around '83-84 and they were nearly as good in 2012 as then. Best duo of all time. Great songs = great memories!!! LFDH was/is a great series to view online, too. Unfortunately it seems there aren't any new episodes nowadays. Hopefully Daryl will do more.....please!!!!

I'm totally amazed at the audience... how are they all just sitting there, like they're at the symphony or something? I'd be up on my feet, bobbing my head & dancing!! They are at what is a once in a lifetime show for many fans- I wouldn't have been able to control myself if I'd been there. Hall & Oates were a huge part of my teen years & I still love them!!💖💖 **Edit: I'm happy to see that the audience is finally up on their feet. "I Can't Go For That" did the trick! That was always my favorite tune back in the day.

My last concert, which was H&O, was ruined by a woman constantly on her feet about four rows ahead of me on the floor. I think I had 12th row, she obviously had better. I could not see the stage because she would not sit her ass down. She was the ONLY one on her feet. I was throwing ice to get her attention. My $800 tickets were useless. Silly girl could not control herself either, depriving me of my most looked-foward-to concert of my life. B ... My last live concert.
