Not 1980s, but right smack in the midde of the 1970s. Originally recorded and released in 1973, but had much more success on it's re-release in July 1976. This and "Sara Smile" (from 1975) had such incredible soul!

From the album "Abandoned Luncheonette" (1973). Hall & Oates had moved from the Atlantic label to RCA in 1976, and with the success of the RCA release "Sara Smile", Atlantic re-release "She's Gone" which then charted higher than when released in 1973. Arif Mardin (who had previously arranged and produced for Aretha Franklin and The Bee Gees) arranged the string and horns and produced the 1973 album.

Hall & Oates are the most successful duo in pop music history! They were inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Their music inspired me so much I wrote a poem about them. I’ve seen them in concert in Nashville twice. John Oates lives in Nashville now, and I’ve been to his solo gigs and have two photos with him. I love Hall & Oates!! John has a Mustache since the 1970's. Yet they also were in a very complicated situation. John was to Daryl what Andrew Ridgely was to George Michael in Wham. They were Partners but because Daryl was The Lead he got more attention. Also Daryl wrote or Co Wrote alot of their Hits either with his Former Companion Sara Allen and her Late Sister Jana Alan (RIP).

Hall & Oates were a hit factory from the mid 70s to mid 90s and they're still going. They made great music that resulted in gold and platinum records in a seemingly endless stream, They are officially the LARGEST selling duo of all time, a title they still hold today with over 45 million records sold. You might enjoy this: Daryl has a huge old house and studio out in the sticks 100 miles north of NYC. search YT for "Live from Daryl's House" for lots of great material recorded in his studio. I've seen that sudden puzzled look of alarm in at least one other reaction video to this song when they sing the line, "let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away". Please let me clear up the confusion and misunderstanding about that. It was never meant to be a reference to self harm. In the eighties what that line did to the listener was to invoke the image of a lovesick man going about his day to day business in a busy city, hoping that the smoggy air he breathes will choke out his thoughts of the woman who left him. It was never meant to be interpreted otherwise.
