Daryl has blue-eyed soul for days! If you guys get the chance, you really should check into ANYTHING live from Daryl's House. His house band is incredible and his guests and Daryl do a combination of their own songs and Hall and Oates songs. They are all incredible! Thanks guys for another great reaction to another great old song! I really appreciate y'all! Two of the really good ones from those sessions is Cee Lo Green, I Can't Go for That, and the O'Jays, Backstabbers.

If I wasn’t already subscribed, I would do it a million times. Let me tell you why. 1) your *appreciation* of music is unmatched. It’s written all over your faces. I don’t know what it is about watching people listen to music that you love & appreciate it the way you do, but it makes me happy. Thank you for that. 2) your knowledge of music is impressive and instructive. I’m a listener, not a creator. I LOVE music of all kinds. (I grew up up listening to traditional Irish music, Elvis, Willie Nelson, Motown, and some 40s bands like the Ink Spots. My mom was eclectic.) But the soundtrack of my youth comes from the 70s & 80s. My siblings & I shared albums like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elton John, Peter Frampton, The Stone, The Who, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, ELO, Yes, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Carole King, Hall & Oates, Bee Gees, etc etc. such GOOD music! I’ve listened to all my life and yet have learned things about the songs/music you’ve reacted to. My appreciation for the music grows. Thank you for that. 3) your respect for the art of music. When you said something to the effect that advertisers should be ashamed of using this music to sell things, I said “Amen.” 4) I love your vibe. I suspected you were brothers before I watched your Q&A where you told your story. There is an easiness between you that is comforting to be a part of and reminds me of my family. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your appreciation, and yourselves with the rest of us. And that you for keeping this great music alive. I truly appreciate you guys. ❤️

@@danmayberry1185 wow! How lucky were you to have a dad who sang with the Ink Spots! Like, who else knows who the Ink Spots are! my friends loved coming into my house just to hear what crazy music my mom had playing in the house. When we were older & doing road trips, my one friend would request that I put the Ink Spots on the mixed tape (!) I was making for the trip. My sister, friend, and I would often regale our bigger group of friends with an acapella version of “Java Jive.” Music adds so much beauty and *flavor* to our lives. I’m grateful to my mom for listening to so many kinds of music. None of us were/are musicians, but I sure do appreciate listening to it. ✌️

I’m 54 now. So back in the day. This was new for us when it came out. Being Gen X actually does have its advantages. So, a friend of mine wanted to see them. So we went. Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. 6th row centre floors. I’m thinking this was early/mid 80’s. I really don’t remember much about the night. Not for any nefarious reasons. Just cause it was a long time ago. Music meant more than money back then. It was made, and listened to, from the bottom of our hearts, to the depths of our souls. Thanks again guys.

Okay, so I've now watched your final comments after the song and do have something more to say. I saw them live a few years ago and they didn't seem to (as a duo) on top of their game anymore. Hard for me to say that as much as I admire their work and the stuff Daryl is still doing on "Live at Daryl's House" but I thought I should put it out there. The band, Train, was also performing in that concert and they are still on top of their game. (or were 4 or 5 years ago). Prompted me to suggest you might give Train a listen at some point. They've got a handful of songs I've found to be rather good...but they don't have near the depth of good hits Hall and Oates do in my opinion.

They were my first concert when I was a kid. I grew up in Toledo, Ohio where most famous bands passed us by because we're between Cleveland and Detroit. I was in jr high when I saw them on tour for the H20 album (Maneater, One on One etc) and I was in awe of Hall's voice. In the mid 80s I saw them again on the Big Bam Boom tour with a then unknown Til Tuesday opening for them. It's cool that they always stopped in our city - it certainly helped me have a better musical foundation. It's a damn shame they're feuding - I hope they make it up.

This is one of the duo's favorite Hall & Oates songs. It's very autobiographical. Both wrote about going through a breakup at the same time. It's very thematic, with a soaring melody and uplifting chord progression, but about an unfortunate and sad thing. I've never listened to a breakup love affair sound so good. Blue-Eyed Soul at its best. Great reaction, guys. Thanks for all the hard work.

This hits home, I heard this song on the Radio for the first time in Cleveland. I was stunned. I was 14, Mom had just left and taken my younger brother with her as she left our Father. The song's release was 2 days after this crisis. I rode to a local Kressge's where I bought my 45's. There it was, that 45, it was played as soon as I came home. My Father arrived on the second, third, or fourth time it was played. I don't remember. What I do recall, was my Father's Tears, and his sad eyes as he looked in my eyes like never before, and he said She's Gone.

From their second studio album, Abandonned Luncheonette, the lead guitar was played by Christopher Bond. Bond also mixed it and contributed arrangements under legendary producer Arif Mardin. Bond left the band soon after due to financial disagreements. In other words, H&O's manager Tommy Mottola was less than generous in paying the band members. LOL.

I feel you, man !!! True story, this happened to ME TOO !!! I was engaged to be married but found out that my fiancée was schizophrenic ... only AFTER I coming home one day from working a 14-hour, warehouse shift ... about 6 weeks before we were to be married. Her mom met me at the door, told me that she just wigged out while I was at work and met her mom at the door with her bags and an airplane ticket. She said she couldn't take it anymore (whatever was gong on in her head). She left and went to live with her dad. I spent many 12-14 hour shifts (did at least 2 every week), in my own private warehouse section ... in silence, and this song had just peaked on the charts. I can't tell you how many times I wept openly, mindlessly. while driving my forklift around my section. We talked so many times over the phone, but then, 6 months later, while sneaking around her dad's house 1 night, her dad heard what he thought was an intruder, she was shot and killed, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've never forgotten that part of my life, and YES, I've KNOWN the feeling this song portrays ... very, VERY well !!! I've felt every thing and way he describes. So, kudos to you for understanding just what this song is saying, and I'm sorry you had to go through it yourself, but only those of us who've felt this truly understand the full depth and meaning of what the man is saying. Now, actually, you both brought up a great point, so let me explain it. Yes, they both tour separately, but they BOTH own the song catalog. However, John Oates was just making plans to sell his share of the catalog to some company, and Daryl Hall doesn't want them to do what you were also talking about ... have their songs all over commercials. I'm with Daryl Hall on this one. Preserve your life's work and your dignity. Don't sell your soul and cave to the corporate mentality. Protect that shit !!!

This song was released in the mid to late 70’s and has that 70’s R&B feel to it. Hall and Oates are from Philadelphia and that Philly soul/R&B influence shines in their music. You should hear their cover of Billy Paul’s, Me and Mrs. Jones. They do an amazing job with it👍🏼😊.

Hey guys, there's a video I saw of them doing this song live and Daryl starts out but then John comes in and they seem to both be alternating back and forth. This song was inspired by an actual breakup and Daryl came up with the verses based on that. John tells a story about the chorus part that he came up with (She's Gone) that was based on a girl he met at a club and he invited her for New Year's Eve, and she never showed up - thus...She's Gone! You can find the story about the song online. Also, I have to say I am sitting here hysterical because I love the way Chi's eyes roll back in his head where he listens to something this good!! 🤣🤣This song was released November 1973. THIS SONG IS 50 YEARS OLD - and STILL makes our eyes roll back in our heads!!!! 🤣🤣Give a listen to their ballad ONE ON ONE (1982, from their album H2O.) The video is really cool - The vocals!! My God the vocals!!

I totally agree with you La & Che, the way they've taken these wonderful songs and turned them into jingles for commercials is "sacrilegious!" It's the same as striping the dignity from these artist's hard-earned craft and their beautiful talents. Here's another suggestion, if interested. "Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True (Official HD Video)" (Channel: Daryl Hall & John Oates) I had read that same article fellas'. Sadly, I think that speaks to the state of the whole world right now. Everyone's worst angels are having a party at the moment. But I draw comfort from beautiful music, and I know that music is stronger than hate...it draws people together and breaks down barriers. I loved hanging out and jamming with you two. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.

Beyond classic, was one of those perfect songs that was always just there. There is just something about these song writing duos, the stuff they produce is magic. -Simon & Garfunkle -Hall & Oats -Lennon & McCarntney

I seen them in concert a couple of times, once in Cleveland and then again here at Stage AE here in Pittsburgh (about 7 or 8 years ago) and man, they can still kill it!

Hall is the lead and Oates is that deeper voice you hear. This has to be my favorite H&O song. It has that old school Motown sound.

Daryl Hall was going through a divorce at the time. John Oates had just been stood up by a date. It inspired this magical song!
