Reina del Cid is a folk singer songwriter and leader of the eponymous folk rock band based in Los Angeles and Minnesota. This song is about the writer Eudora Welty who saw Halley's Comet in Jackson Mississippi twice. Mary Chapin Carpenter tells a nice story during her concerts about how Miss Welty invited her to her house and how she played the song for her.

Beautiful song! The finger picking had a perfect blend with Toni's flat picking. Toni gets better every time I hear her play. She is a fine lead flat picking guitarist. So smoothly pulling off her distinguished single notes with a fine rhythm. The overall trio is great with dynamic vocal harmony.

Thank you, thank you, and again thank you. MCC has always been one of my most admired singer/songwriters and you all did her proud. Was fortunate enough to see her on an in the round tour with Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin in a small auditorium some years back, what a magnificent show. Still hoping to one day see you all in South Florida, lodging provided! 💗

I’ve watched this vid at least 50 times in the past few days - what a great cover of my favorite old MCC song. Maybe it’s because I’m old, but this song hits every one of my musical sweet spots. I was 13 in 86 for last Halley’s Comet visit. I was too young and stupid to watch it. I may be dead when it comes back, but if not I hope I remember this song and play this version to honor its visit. So brilliant !

Then you were 24 years old in 97 when Hale Bopp was visible to the naked eye for almost 18 months and was much much more impressive a comet. You won’t get to see that one again unless you live to be over 4000 years old.

Oh that last "Back Then" harmony. Amen. Have a lot of MCC in my car CD collection and was hitting repeat oh Halley CTJ so many times I lost count. I do a star party in August for the Perseid Meteor Shower and have a one hour campfire program with interactive audience games and activities to teach about the night sky...You all should put a "star" repetoir set together and play a pre-show at a star party!! And by the way...the 3 of you are beautiful stars. Keep on shining gals!

Beautiful song, beautifully done. In 1985 when Halley's comet began to be visible unaided, our youngest daughter was born in December. I named her Halley. It was, and is my hope she will live to see it when it comes round again.

An interesting tidbit: my grandfather watched Hally's Comet from under a covered wagon, as they made their way to the West Coast. He said he wouldn't be around to see it the next time it appeared, and he was correct, he passed away about four years before it came back. I was already an adult by then, so I know that I won't make it to be over 100 for the next pass.
