Kind of funny to hear Russian on the soundtrack, in view of the claim that Marika was feeding the Soviets intel while starring for Goebbels. But lord, what a talent. See the whole sequence, 'Musik, Musik, Musik,' which follows. The Germans were great imitators if nothing else. Even the Van Nest Polglase-style streamlined theater design is luscious. Had the politics of the time permitted it, Marika could have gone to the States, learned English, been polished a little by MGM and turned into the biggest triple threat after Ginger concentrated on acting. La Rokk had the lot, and she was tougher than her only European-based rival, Jessie Matthews. Alas, she was too old or politically sensitive to cross the pond after the War. She spent her life in German movies, concerts and TV. She is revered there and renowned almost nowhere else.
