Halloween Kills is a 2021 American slasher film directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems. The film is a direct sequel to 2018's Halloween and the twelfth installment in the Halloween franchise.
The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis and James Jude Courtney, who reprise their roles as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, and Will Patton also reprise their roles from the previous film, with Anthony Michael Hall and Thomas Mann joining the cast.
The film, which begins precisely where the previous film ended, sees Strode and her family continuing to fend off Myers, this time with the help of the Haddonfield community.

My biggest complaint was the Shakespearean bullshit dialogue that NOBODY would say like “Every time he kills, he transcends” and the countless “Evil dies tonight” nonsense. Only Loomis can get away with spouting off those type of sentences. I didn’t care much for H18 so I wasn’t expecting much. All I really care about was Michael and Michael was truly the star of the show and on that level, the movie definitely delivered.

Dumb humor like the 2 gay guys dancing or getting a 2 inch knife as a weapon, or the lady accidentally shooting herself in the head, lol. The kills? It was done better in dozens of other slasher films...I've seen 'slit throats and stabbings' before. I wouldn't have done it that way. But I think it's rediculous to say this is the worst in the franchise, I think it's rediculous to say it ruins the franchise. They don't dwell about it until after he kills more teens and a whole crew of firefighters. That's when the town gets paranoid. They don't get paranoid just because of 4 murders 40 years ago. The Halloween movies are above average horror movies with atmosphere, John Carpenter music, great cinematography and characters that actually have arcs. It's fine with me that you didn't like this one. But for whatever reason I found it to be entertaining when it comes to a pure slasher movie level and despite having issues with the writing and the ending, overall I liked a lot more of the film than I honestly thought I would. And I thought it did make an effort to try to put some new spins on some old concepts and ideas that were present in other films in the franchise. So this is one where we don't agree on when it comes to everything and that's fine. I respect your take on things just as much as I do anyone else's opinion on the movie whether it's good or bad. All of that being said, nice job with the rant as usual and despite liking the film, I did agree with you on a handful of the film's issues. The stuff with the escaped mental patient was just poorly handled and so was the ending which came across as really choppy. But even the worst aspects of this were better than the 2018 film to me. Because Kills at least tries harder to take the franchise into somewhat new territory.

@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc I thought the backstory with Hawkins was interesting and well done(I had no problem with Michael getting arrested or the cops not being able to shoot him(What difference would that have made to begin with? It's the prequel to the events of this new trilogy. He has to be back in prison somehow. At least he isn't in jail with his mask on like in 5.), the fact it brings in the other survivors of the massacre in 78 was a nice touch, and it even toned down the humor considerably. Also, I wasn't expecting a lot of suspense. At this point, the franchise can't really do a lot of that anymore. Having Michael be bold is actually new. It's actually something you haven't seen much of in this franchise to date. We already had Michael slowly stalking people or hiding around corners in the 2018 film and those scenes were dreadful because they went on too long. At least Michael here is a straight up force of nature.

I even admit after thinking about the film more, it honestly gets a bit worse after more deliberation but I still enjoy it as a time waster for the kills, and the aspects of it I like.

I just don't get the hate for the soundtrack. I know well enough how this films mediocre but it's one of my favorites of the year my man. Poor Matt, to easily angered by it. I do feel for him about Halloween 2, it should not be hated. Although I would wish he could understand why people don't like H20. It was not scary, not made with a real passion by the Akkads, Carpenter could not return for what was proposed salary, and the ending is ruined by resurrection. I just hope at the least this new trilogy ends strong like the first sequel from 1981. That is all I want to justify my interest in this reboot. Happy Halloween OCP. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I was seriously let down by HK. I didn’t love the premise of H18 but have grown to accept it as another alternate version. But this was a hot mess. If they want to ignore the other films after ‘78 then they should stop the callbacks to them. I don’t need fan service/callbacks in all my films, its become too much. Also, wasn’t sure but did you know evil dies tonight and it’s been 40 years!?! LOL. Keep ranting Matt love the channel 🎸🤘🏻👍🏻✌🏻made it to the end of the rant.

@45:03 - I believe that was supposed to be some sorta joke... like Michael's at a shopping mall, trying out different knives to see which one is better since there was an assortment of them available on the block. That's what I'm guessing.... but not entirely sure, like it was part of his humor / playful tactics when taking out his victims.

Worst one of the franchise, IMO. Characters were horrible especially the granddaughter with her defiant attitude and her valley girl delivery of "the boogie man is real". I agree, it had no point. If this is the 2nd act, the 3rd has no foundation to work off of. The throwback nostalgia characters were pointless (but I did like the 1978 segments) the escape psych ward guy committing suicide, just as pointless. The ambush scene was uncoordinated and choppy. I can't think of one part of this film that revealed anything new to me. They just need to give it up and move on. They are beating this franchise into the ground for a few bucks. Too many hands have been in the pot.

The idea itself is very smart but the mob themselves as people, they were dumb. All people have to do is run away from Michael because he is big an slow and why do these idiots stay in their house rather than just run out of the house also why don't people just relocate to move town or even leave the country an live on another country.

In my opinion, It's nothing more than a glorified fan film with a budget. Just for one example, the "Hey Michael, it's Halloween. Everyone's entitled to one good scare" line from Brackett when the mob is surrounding Michael towards the end is just horrendous and is something you'd see in a fan film. How about we give Charles Cyphers some realistic dialogue, maybe just one emotional plea to Tommy to hunt down the bastard that killed his daughter. Instead we get "EVIL DIES TONIGHT!!" It's just very lazily written. Dependent on repeated lines and terminology from previous films in the franchise including Halloween 2018. I cringed so hard when Karen gives an encore of "gotcha". I said to myself "Oh god no" I truly wanted to enjoy this film and while there are some aspects of it that I did enjoy, for a big budget Halloween movie it should bring something new and interesting. It instead focuses on nostalgia trips, unnatural dialogue and chants. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and if you enjoyed it, that's awesome. But I think that any true fan of this franchise would expect something better than what we got, especially waiting an extra year, and I think that the writers should be pretty embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

Regarding the firefighter scene, the firefighters knew about Michael Myers and recognized him. That is why they wanted to attack him. I have seen more graphic kills in other slasher movies but I would say that the firefighters kills, the way it was filmed, especially, the saw kill scene was quite disturbing to watch. Water pressure from a firefighter hose can repel, injure or even kill a person (Myers is not an ordinary person though). Even if thd firefighters attacked Myers together, my bets would be on Myers still, winning. The producers and director keep on saying that Myers is an ordinary person but no way. Since Halloween 2018, I've seen Myers doing supernatural things that an ordinary person, cannot do. In Halloween 2018 there was a bus accident and mental patients escaped (including Myers, of course). The mental patient who committed suicide is the mental patient holding the umbrella in the earlier scenes of Halloween 2018. How the mob could mistake that mental patient in Halloween Kills for Michael Myers, is being me? Myers has a totally different build and height compared to that mental patient. I do not know if the scene where Myers gets up and kills everyone at the end of Halloween kills including Strode's daughter is all or part dream sequence as well?

I agree with you 100% on all accounts. One thing i've disliked about these newer Halloween films is that they make Michael Meyers more into Jason Voorhees. Makers claim to be fans of the original but especially with this movie it becomes clear they didn't understand what made the original so good in the first place. It had nothing to do with high bodycount, pointless gory kills and certainly not making all the characters into fucking idiots. The characters from Halloween Kills make characters from firday the 13th movies look like Einstein in comparison.

I can see where they were going with this film, but the problem I find with it is tone and atmosphere of Myers. My favorites are the first 2 originals. Things that stand out to me is they seem to make a parody of Myers like he is out to take out anyone for sport when in the originals he would only go for people in his way example the firefighters team sequence does not fit. Film makers clearly haven't payed attention to Michael always lurking in the shadows example hiding behind houses, standing in dark alleys between blocks stalking his prey and yes I do notice the lack of musical score in this film. Modifying the theme was a bad call and yes the score is awful. Script has some highs to it, but the lows kind of brought it down a notch as there were some pointless scenes that could of been taken out.

I mean this with the utmost respect but I can honestly say, I’ve been a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis and have followed her career since 1978. The one and only little complaint I have ever heard her mention over all these years is that the wig from the 1981 film itched. I still have the People magazine from 1983 (the one where it shows her next to a sign that reads “Danger Curves Ahead” and in that interview she clearly states that she returned for Halloween II out of loyalty to John Carpenter, Debra Hill and her fans. She said she felt that she owed it to her fans to reprise her role. Now there was a period in the mid to late 80s where she didn’t want to be associated anymore with horror or slasher films, but I don’t recall her ever putting Halloween II down in any way, shape or form. If you watch old interviews as well as current interviews, she still seems grateful for them because they launched her career. I really think someone may have misinterpreted something.

I made it to the end and I really enjoyed the review. It was funny, it had great points, and unlike most people, you don’t attack and make fun of those who disagree and I applaud you on that. For me, I think it’s a decent sequel. It had some scary and suspenseful moments, Michael Myers was a badass, the kills were fun and brutal from what I saw, and it was just a great experience watching this in the theater. However, I am skeptical about this being the final send off like you. I hope that they actually end the franchise and don’t make more sequels just because this is doing well at the box office. The flashback sequences were stuff I could’ve cut out and I wish there was more of a big pile up and battle between Michael. But, I still liked it although it’s not as good as 1-4, H20 and the 2018 reboot. Anyway, I’m looking forward to your next rant and it’s been quite a while since I’ve got an epic rant from you.
