I love the little details and dialogue in this demo. Wounded Marine sees a Pelican offloading a team of ODSTs, followed by a near-mythical supersoldier: "Guess the brass do give a shit."

I remember when everyone lost their shit the moment he dual wielded those smgs. lol. So many good memories back then with this one.

I still remember getting this game. I remember driving so carefully after I got out of my junior year classes in high school. I remember bringing it home and where I sat to play it. It’s strange that it’s a core memory, but then again, I did wait impatiently for months for it to come out. It was the first game I ever pre-ordered because I was afraid I would not get a copy on launch day. Life was so simple back then. God I miss it.

I think these were by far THE best times in gaming history hands down. This is the Golden Age of gaming very unique time.

Awesome! When is this game coming out?

Wow, what a blast from the past. I was there at E3 in 2003 as part of the gaming press and remember having to wait in line for about two hours to see this trailer in the small theater they set up in the exhibition hall. I wasn't really into FPS games but the original HALO made me a believer. I still remember the "oohs" and "aahs" from the audience, especially when Master Chief started duel-wielding - the fans went nuts for that.

I'm still mad that this wasn't in the actual game.

Kids these days will never know the hype this was way back in 2003 when this E3 demo made all others irrelevant.

Fuuuck I remember downloading this trailer and watching it over and over on quicktime, before youtube was even a thing. This demo really is something special, and I really hope someday they could include it in the MCC somehow. That ending cutscene is too damn classic to be left in the past.

Only today did I learn that this mission was a fake trailer production... I've always wondered why it wasn't in the game. This mission? This is what convinced me to play Halo 2, I think. The chattering of the SMGs was attractive, the setting of the mission in its entirety, this entire thing captivated me. I can't even explain it!

Plasma shots and blood textures looked a lot like: Halo: C.E's in this demo. Pretty cool that it changed in the final build.

Holy hell the nostalgia is real. I remember we used to think these graphics were amazing. Also, I wished that the Battle Rifle had been single shot rather than burst fire like it turned out to be. Also if they had left in the Assault Rifle, that also would have been awesome.

And after so many years, this mission will be finally playable soon on mcc. Let us enjoy this and revisit 2003 one final time.

I was 13 in the year 2003 when the Halo 2 demo was played at E3 that year. Graphics and presentation were absolutely mind blowing. played the shit out of Combat Evolved on original Xbox literally countless hours well over 300 hours.... Saw the presentation for this on quicktime on the school computers (This is pre-2005 so no youtube back then) and all us kids were perplexed at what we were seeing. That level of detail was just impossible to achieve but somehow Bungie managed to do it. November 2004 finally roles around and Halo 2 hits the shelves. I get my copy and literally felt like all my christmases had come at once. god the memories!

Finally in the year of 2022 nearly 20 years after this was shown, we shall finally get to experience the original new Mombasa that Bungie intended us to play in.

It’s 2020 and I still get hyped watching this, so nostalgic

The AI driving in the H2 demo looks better than what we got in H3 & H4 combined lmfao!

Where the hell was this mission, that would have been fun. Also, if you're ever nostalgic for that classic halo 2 look, you can just smear vaseline all over your monitor.

This itteratin of New Mombasa looks a lot more like what we got in halo 3 ODST. In that way ODST is the halo 2 we never got.

I'm so happy that this, this right here after all these years will finally be in our hands here within the next month. We get to finally play this game, with all it's glory. Proud to be a fan and forever a Spartan.

Man this is soo cool to see even if it was all smoke and mirrors, Theres alot of stuff in this demo that you see in later games That AA cannon has the same sound effect of the AAgun in 3 The highway part kinda reminds me of the last driving section in odst more than the tunnels in 2 I consider the single shot BR the predecessor to the DMR, Wish we coulda fought a few brutes early in halo 2. Metropolis and Outskirts reuse as much as possible aside the brutes but this version of new mombasa is truly a futuristic megacity.

Remember downloading this to my Nokia in 2004. That was literally the best year.

3:37 that Longsword air-strike is still so great! They never did anything like that with long sword fighters in game. They show them in cutscenes and that’s it now.

The BR-55 sounded so much better in this demo with single fire bursts.

The marine dialogue is so good and realistic how there all having there own Conversations and talking about what ever situation there in and in the main game they mostly just all say the same Random lines now and again

The city in the real game was such a disappointment compared to this. The semi-auto Battle Rifle is better too, has a beefier sound effect, and is a DMR.

I swear to god, get blur to animate this, and we have a masterpiece in the making

Came here to appreciate the semi-auto BR. Glad I'm not alone on this one. IMO, all they needed to do was increase the recoil a bit (no bloom) so it wouldn't be too easy to use in multiplayer. Otherwise, this was the best version of this gun, and we never got to use it. Lame that the ending of the trailer is cut off.

To this day I can't figure out what that phantom pilot was thinking shooting the sign and then flying under it😂

It's definitely interesting to see what got remixed into the actual finished Campaign, but sad to see what didn't. This definitely looked cinematic and grand just as they had intended, but also still looked like something that evolved into Halo 2.

Even if half of these things weren't included in the game, they somehow still managed to make a near masterpiece

I'll never forget the groundbreaking level of hype of this game had when I was a kid, and I couldn't believe it when I saw that a national news channel had stories on it. Every Xbox magazine issue talked about Halo 2 and at all times the sentiment was "yes, but what about Halo 2?" The fan mail sections talked about Halo 2 and not much else really, it permeated everything. It was absolutely surreal, like waiting for the second coming of Christ. There might be games that get more publicity these days, but at the time of Halo 2 it felt like no game had EVER come close to the level of attention and exposure it was getting, it changed the industry and broke countless records. Such a good memory, glad Bungie could finish the trilogy properly and ended up creating an artistic masterpiece
