Halo is absolutely very religiously-angled in terms of theme; a ‘chosen one’ as an ambassador of mankind, saving us all from damnation, yet known as a ‘Demon’ to those who do not believe in him; religious zealot enemies working beneath a faction known as the ‘Covenant’, false prophets spreading worship of false gods who are subsequently punished, even our protagonists needing to get into an Ark to stop a Flood - it’s incredibly interesting in how well-woven the Christian themes are into the franchise, given it really isn’t super in-your-face at any point in the series. Bungie’s lineup was immaculate. Personally, I just don’t think 343 have replicated that feeling of solemn reverence - which, imo, is a damn shame.

"Finish the fight" ads were super well done since everyone wanted to do exactly that.

The Halo 3 campaign is perhaps the most influential and successful marketing campaign ever done for video games. It's never been repeated and one can only imagine how much effort time and money was spent over the entire run, and how many people were involved. The religious angle is entirely intentional. The very very first glimpse of Halo when it was still an RTS for the Macintosh was an argument between the Arbiter and Cortana and included bible verses.

I was 7 or 8 when I heard about halo and the believe campaign of halo 3 is always my favorite thing to watch to remember because Bungie understood more about showing the fear, the terror, and the hatred shown on both sides willing to do anything to kill or brutalize each other so thanks Bungie for showing us a beautiful campaign that captures what war is

Little personal thing here, I can’t watch these trailers without getting goosebumps. And overall these trailers are considered some of the most iconic ever made. I can answer some questions you had. 1) the diorama documentary is set in universe (so basically everything you watched was in universe) 2) John 117 is supposed to be a religious reference but to be honest the whole series has loose religious themes. And the alien faction is religious seeing the master chief as “a demon” 3) the actor’s in this trailer are just actors however the face scans taken for the diorama are taken from veterans. Also I’ve got to say I’m slightly jealous that you guys get to play the entire series completely fresh!

Halo does have some sorta reference to some biblical. I am not sure but I think some of the creators I think HiddenXperia did a lore prediction for Halo Infinite. He mention about a Katlina or the sword of Roland to go against Curtana. Katlina didn't came to fruition but we still got the weapon who could be consider as Katlina but they ended infinite with a cliff hanger without telling us the name the weapon choosed. John1:17 And Revelation 1:17 are both applicable to the name John. Speaking for myself as a veteran, I took this ad campaign very seriously when I first saw it. I still do. Having seen interviews and methodology used at Walter Reed, being shown FOB hospital footage, et cetera. America and Israel have both done the MIA/KIA thing ; it's not just the CIA that does that. One thing I particularly remember about watching this once was that I watched Hymn to the Fallen to put this in perspective, I didn't realize that it was a German orchestra playing John Williams masterpiece until the end of the performance. That musical crescendo at the end matches in a real way to the real world Hymn to the Fallen.

I would love more halo stuff , see you guys go through the history of this horrific war and the emotions on your faces is an amazing experience ^__^ P.s for your question on if there is religious references , there are over Arcing themes of Humanity and things much much bigger then one person and stuff that almost seem biblical in nature . The Games are fun really fun , but if you slowly down and take a step back and look around you ,you see a horrific war and things that seem to just go deeper and deeper down . I'm not kidding when I say Halo as a series has Tolkien level lore in some areas which is kinda nice when playing the games knowing that there is more in this massive world then just your character .

The new Paramount adaptation of Halo is a typical Hollywood move - it has the name of a popular franchise, but nothing else about it. The showrunners never even played the games, and they set the show in an "alternate timeline" so they didn't have to worry about franchise lore getting in the way of their creativity.

The original Halo 3 Ad Campaign didn’t have music added to the videos, except for the videos focusing on the model of the battle. The other videos with actors in them, had music added to them by the uploader, and tbh IMO kinda ruined the impact of the videos. The silence spoke volumes, (ironically) especially in the video in the forest at night.

This verse does not seem like it means much in Halo's story, but in retrospect, it summarizes a big part of Chief's journey. The Law in Abrahamic religions refers to God's Word, for Judaism, this is the Torah (Old Testament). For Christians, this is the Bible (OT and New Testament), because Jesus fulfills and succeeds the Old Law because he is God as well as Human - he is the Word become Flesh. In Halo, the Covenant wages a religious war against humanity because they are seen as scum, but they also harbor jealousy for humanity because the Forerunners (a precursor race that created most races, worshipped as gods by the Covenant) deemed humanity their successor, giving them the ability to activate Halos and other technology. Chief, as the Jesus figure, literally succeeds the Forerunners multiple times by fighting against Covenant and the Flood (alien parasites that are a mix of Zerg and Xenomorphs that are the other main antagonists) and unearthing the Ark hidden on Earth. Jesus is considered the second Moses as well as the second Adam (this one is obvious - rebirth of humanity because he protects them), but Moses is a little more complicated. Moses frees his people from exile and becomes a patriarch of Judaism, though Jews discriminated against Christians during the time of Christ and after his death - however, we know today that Jews and Christians coexist today even though Christian beliefs say that they succeed the "previous" religion. In this case, the Arbiter (an Elite and the second protagonist of Halo) leads the other Elites in a rebellion before joining humanity in Halo 2 in their mutual war against the Covenant and the Flood. The Arbiter is a position meant to enforce the Covenant's laws - many of which actually protect the universe from the Flood, who almost destroyed all life millions of years ago - yet we can see in the Halo games how this was not enough and only led to conflict between the Forerunner's children. Halo 4-5 shows us that they live peacefully together and coexist with Chief seen as an equal to the Arbiter and vice versa - the Law was succeeded by grace and truth. Revelation 1:17 - " When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last." This verse is a lot more obvious to its meaning in the context of Halo, with Chief being a savior. Revelation (AKA Apocalypse) was written by John the Apostle, writer of the Gospel of John, so this verse also highlights Chief's role in the conflict. There are a lot more religious references in Halo, but there's no agenda or commentary on Christianity or other religions - it's more of an artistic choice that celebrates humanity than a manifesto. This only applies to Halo 1-3 (and Reach and ODST) since they were developed by Bungie, who had a much better handle on the story than 343 Studios has with the past few games.
