Can I just say? I feel like Origins: Part 1 and 2 leads to Cortana’s ambition in Halo 5. She sees the Forrunner- Flood War to the Human-Covenant War, and she realize: she sees no peace. Only war, over and over constantly.

Yeah the one in the Halo games were basically the equivalent to a small outbreak compared to what the Forerunner had to fight. (Note, during the Forerunner Era, The Flood could also use Star Roads, Precursor structures, to tear apart starships, installations, and even planets). I will point out though that these depictions actually aren't entire accurate, and are largely Cortana "guessing" on what they may have looked liked ie. Cortana's own interpretation.

GreatfulGert In halo origins 2 they say the covenant and humanity united against the flood and eventually made peace with each other. While that may be true for the covenant separatists that did not happen with the entire covenant. They got the story of halo 3 completely wrong.

Spawn Hybrid True. The covenant was reformed by the great schism (Halo 2). The brutes were the main force of the covenant through Halo 3, and the Elites were United. Honestly, we could chalk up the misinformation to cortanas rampancy.

It is known that the story in this video is flawed, Ancient humanity basically "glassed" every world that have a flood outbrake, including forerunner's ones. Forerunners who didn't knew about the flood and declared war to humans, the humans were unable to win because they were fighting both the flood & the forerunners, but they really weakened the forerunners before losing. Then the forerunners were attacked by the flood and were unable to beat them. TL:DR : The forerunners had just before a war with humanity that left them very weak

Actually, it was Mendicant Bias betrayal that led to their demise along with the "Burns" Star Roads and Key Minds generated that made their technology and Slipspace fail completely along with the Logic Plaque. The Forerunners were actually doing pretty good for the first 280 years and it was until the last decade or so when things went to Hell for the Forerunners. The Forerunners had nearly 10 thousand years after the Human-Forerunner War and both the Halo Array and Shield Worlds are the result of that time period.

R4d6 the forerunners did discover the flood during th human-forerunner war but didn't believe it a big enough threat to warrant the humans glassing of infected worlds.

Bit late on the draw here, but that technology and firepower is why they were defeated. They waited too long to use it, not until the Flood ‘had spread too far, and too wide.’

They still are good guys, ultimately. They made mistakes but they meant well. They're just a society with flaws and struggles like every other society, which in my mind at least makes them more interesting. Personally I find a struggling hero with inner demons, mistakes, or flaws to overcome more satisfying than a plain goody two shoes hero.

Yes their civilization did terrible things sometimes, but it also existed for millions of years and encompassed who knows how many trillions or quadrillions of beings during that timeframe. If you only look at the bad, then sure, they look awful, but the same can be said of any individual, group, nation, or whatever. For a real world example, look at the United States, can you unequivocally state that we are good or evil? We've committed genocide and invented technological marvels that have changed the world. Fought for freedom and justice and also openly exploited those weaker than us. Empowered racists, dictators, and corporate stooges as well as sent immense amounts of humanitarian aid to other less fortunate countries out of a desire to do good. It's not so simple to just label something as good and evil. There are always pros and cons, rights and wrongs. So yes, the Forerunners have done many terrible things, they wiped out the Precursors, devolved humanity, and created something not unlike imperialism with the rest of the galaxy. But they also shepherded and looked after the younger races, protecting them, enlightening them, and trying to keep peace in the galaxy. They only fought humanity out of what was essentially self-defense, since let's not forget humanity attacked them first (for good reason, of course, but the Forerunners didn't know that at the time). And in the end they willingly and intentionally sacrificed themselves and their entire civilization in order to buy life for everyone else. And anyway many of their worst crimes are tens of thousands or in some cases hundreds of thousands of years old by the time their civilization ends. Just because their distant ancestors did something bad does not mean that they should all be held accountable for all time. That'd be like blaming the people of today for something the Romans or the Persians etc. did two thousand years ago. Lastly, "They" turned humans into prometheans, but let's be real that was just the Didact and his inner circle , not Forerunner civilization as a whole. Even the Didact wasn't exactly in his right mind, since he had basically been driven mad by the primordial. And even then, yes turning people into Promethean is not nice, but it was ultimately conceptualized as a way to defeat the Flood, not something done out of pure malice. Regardless you can't really blame them all for the actions of just a handful.

The precursors were the only ones who ever held the mantle and actually did that, the precursors were the ones who spread across the Milky Way enlightening, supporting and caring for their creations even the forerunners, the precursors were going to then pass the mantle to the creation they deemed fit and worthy, due to them most likely on the evolutionary verge of transcending a physical form and the fact the precursors the most technologically and philosophically advanced/enhanced species in the galaxy the ones who made the forerunners deemed them unworthy which shows that the forerunner ideology/philosophy is not right, their species was so arrogant and immature that they couldn’t accept their fate like how the humans did at the end of the war with the forerunners, the people of their society wanted to unleash the flood on the forerunners for their complete eradication of their race but the leaders of humanity denied the prospect and accepted their fate just like their creators did at the hands of the forerunners, the precursors did not fight back once the forerunners began to lash out after their decision to choose humanity and every precursor accepted their deaths. The fact that humanity and the precursors were both annihilated due to the insecurities of one civilization speaks volumes about the forerunners themselves.

Something how a Retriever in Halo Wars 2 is about the size of a UNSC Condor but if look carefully at the center of the map Sentry or Badlands can't remember which theirs a dormant one that's twice the size of the standard you use in the game.

First of all, Forerunners and humanity were NEVER the same species, Bungie never leaned towards any option until Halo 3 with its terminals making it clear they're different species. 343i just decided to expand on what was already established, and thanks to that, we got one of the best narratives in the Halo universe, the Forerunner trilogy. But instead of bothering to read the books, you'd rather spout nonsense. And let me remind you that 343i kept up the narrative of an ancient humanity with the Hamanush, and that the Precursors created humans and Forerunners from the same stock. Oh wait... what is that? In 9:55? Oh yeah, HUMANS.

Here's the deal, when Staten wrote Contact Harvest, he was on temporary administrative leave due to differences with Marcus Letho, so he wasn't informed about what the terminal team had written. Over time, they fixed that reclaimer inconsistency with the Geas and humanity being heirs of the Forerunners. Even a former Bungie employee had to jump into the debate and make it very clear that 343i just worked with what was ALREADY devised.

@@thaneros Not really, they couldn't be sure they had gotten the job done. They had the samples to teach any successors how to deal with them should they ever appear again. They just never counted on the Flood actually breaking containment.

The samples were kept and stored within the bowels of each installation so that the monitors could study the parasite and accumulate as much knowledge as possible and maybe even find a cure for the other intelligent races to accumulate if the flood were to appear again, but as 343 guilty spark stated after his many years of research and existence that only the rings can stop the flood because there is no cure,

They were also kept cause… the flood can’t really be eradicated. Even by halo, there’s always *something* left behind. Be it a dormant spore waiting for the conditions to be right to wake up again. You can see this especially in Halo wars 2. Despite the fact the Replacement halo fired, destroying itself and causing major damage to the ark… the flood persisted and survived. So it’s essentially a “alright we can’t get rid of the flood in it’s entirety… so let’s study it the best we can. Maybe there is a cure”

In that sense. They *are* the new forerunners… just not the race that fired the halos.
