Halter training lambs | show lambs

The younger you start the quicker they get used to it. A month old is probably a good starting place. Good luck showing!

This is only my second year showing sheep, but I have a good tip, when you show sheep you can’t have the halter on, so start doing showing stance with them, so it’s easier in the ring, good luck!!!

This is my second year showing and my lamb this year will not walk at all when I have a halter on her she lays down or she will immediately start pulling away from me. Do you have any suggestions?

If the lamb is especially stubborn I would try what we call bucket training, where you literally sit on a bucket next to your lamb while it has on a halter, and just spend time getting it used to the halter with no pressure to walk. You might even leave the halter on her and let her loose in the pen with it on to walk, but never leave a lamb unattended when it has a halter on.
