End Fed antenna - one of my favorites! Just made my ever first contact to New Zealand (18.000 km from Germany) with 5W and 21m wire hanging in the garden on a QRP 49:1 UnUn I made. Only FT8 and it took me several attempts - but got the contract logged on 20m band❤. Have fun with this Swiss Knife of antennas - works really nicely! 73 - Stefan

I've had that same antenna for over a year. It's hands-down the best wire antenna I've ever used. The box is mounted on a 20ft. tv mast on the ground and the wire end is about 25ft. up tied off to a tree. You'll really enjoy that antenna!

Thanks! It seems to be doing a great job. I need to get my box higher and away from my metal gutters. Thanks for watching, and 73s.

I love the myatennas antennas - they are really one of the best end feds out there. There have been some good videos of other hams discussing most efficient transformer designs for end feds, and myatennas uses that specific design! He builds quality products that work great!! One thing to be aware of that I suggest is to get one of his chokes - he sells a couple of different models. End feds will definitely require good choking - just be aware that you need to place the choke far enough (15-20 feet) away from the antenna feedpoint to get the best performance, as the coax will act as the other half of the antenna. If your choke is too close to the antenna it will impact performance. An air loop choke that you have most likely will not provide sufficient choking.

I purchased one of these chokes and have it near the radio. I did remove the air choke. This antenna performs very well; I just wish I could get it higher on the house. Thanks for watching and for the tips. 73s.

I have the same antenna, a very good EFHW. My far end is about 35’ up over a tree limb and the box end is sloped down to about 10’ up and attached to the eave of the house. Works well.

Im about to string a chameleon end fed into a tree at my house (western NC). Im planning to use coated steel clothesline in the tree where it will angle over a branch, hoping that will withstand eroding against the swaying tree. Thanks for sharing.

Depending on which model you have of the Chameleon - it uses a very lossy transformer design meaning it won't be very efficient in putting out signal. That's one of the big pluses of the myantennas antenna that is shown here - the transformer design is extremely efficient.

I'm new to HF. Like 4 months. I put up a Vibroplex endfed 135' wire which runs at 14' along my backyard fence line. Our powerlines also run along my backyard fence line but my antenna wire is about five feet below them. I'm really short on antenna room that is not plagued by powerlines. Didn't know I was going to be a ham 35 years ago when we bought the house. Anyway, this antenna (and my Yaesu FT-710) has gotten me contacts pretty much around the world. I'm loving it. You'll love your wire as well. 73. KD7LWL.

It sounds like you have a nice setup. I am lucky to have the woods behind my house for antennas. It is incredible how far a wire will allow you to talk. Thanks for watching and 73s.

Great antenna, to stop RF return you need a choke at feeding point and one by the rig. Also use ferrite clips on the USB cable. I was having the same issue with FLDIGi when running over 40 watts. Problem solved 73 de 2E0RPS

I have 3 EFHW from my antennas, they’re a good quality made! Just a suggestion though take that loop out of the coax or attach a counterpoise wire on there cause it’s going to need that coax to act as the other half of the antenna. Try and ground your coax shield before it enters your house, so you don’t have any common mode. also, the higher you get them up horizontally, the better DX you’ll get, mine are up 50 foot up in the trees and work all over the world. but they still will work in just about any configurations.

Thanks for the advice. I did remove the air choke. I plan to raise the antenna box higher very soon. I still have to add a ground connector on the coax. Thanks for watching, and 73s.

I see you’re getting a lot of good suggestions. One that I might add after running EFHW antennas for about 3 years, is try to get that matching box up at roof overhang. Run your ground wire a long the house down to the ground and get rid of that metal pipe that you have mounted to. Being that close to your antenna wire the pipe will affect your rx and tx signal. I use this same antenna and it has performed great for me.
@MyHamRadioJourney
@MyHamRadioJourney Ай бұрын
Thanks for that tip. I will try to get the box up closer to my second-story roof. If I have to use the pipe, would it be better to put a piece of rubber behind the plate? Thanks for the help. 73s.
@davidp1922
@davidp1922 Ай бұрын
@@MyHamRadioJourney it would probably help but IMO it would be better just to hang the matching box from the overhang. Mine actually slopes up from about 9 feet to about 30 feet from just under my roof overhang. I had it similar to yours on a pipe and someone suggested that I get rid of it. I have an swr of below 1.5:1 on 10,15,20 meters and a 1.2:1 on 40 meters

If your needing to use the coax for a counterpoise like most end feds do, that open air choke will probably disrupt that.

You can make a choke quite easily, ferrite 240 with a 65mm center diameter, 8 turns should be enough. You could patch it in at the balun connection or Internet shack,
