Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz suggested a planned assault on Rafah could be suspended, if a hostage deal with Hamas is struck.

War puts us all under duress. The greater your risk of dying, the more likely you are to want peace. That's why leaders are usually the last group to seek peace. Of course it also helps when you keep getting mysterious new mansions like Zelinsky, have invested a personal fortune in the arms industry like Biden, or are kept in power and out of the criminal courts like Netanyahu. The values israel represents mean that it must be willing to stop and with it, to let hamas regroup. This is what patriotism/representing western values looks like. To let the bad guys get away if it means to do the right things. Sadly few people have what it takes to do that.
