In times where travelling and tasting(!) is not possible I'd like to introduce you to some Hamburg Goodies. Try them at home and you can at least taste a bit of Hamburg.
The so-called "Franzbrötchen" can be found in just about every bakery in Hamburg. Traditionally, lots of good butter, cinnamon and sugar are the main ingredients of this popular pastry. Sticky, sweet and very tasty. Simply Soulfood and something I miss when being away. Enjoy.
According to legend, Napoleon's troops introduced croissants to Hamburg during the French occupation of the city from 1806 to 1814. Local bakers and their customers preferred a sweeter product, so the bakers covered their version of croissant dough with a mixture of butter and sugar, added cinnamon, and let the alternative croissants caramelize in the oven.
