I LOVE that the Hamilton ensemble got solos- I can't wait to see where they all end up next, so much passion and love.. Ariana, Sasha, Carleigh, Ephraim, Jon, Seth, Thayne, Betsy.. Couldn't take my eyes off them during the show, was WONDERFUL to see them have a moment to themselves. :D

@ツMyUsernameIsThis A Chorus Line is a musical that follows multiple dancers auditioning to be in a chorus line. This was the first time a musical focused on the ensemble actors of a show. In the show, this song is performed after one of the characters is injured, ending their career. The rest of the dancers are asked I believe something akin to, “What if tomorrow you never danced again?” Or, “What if you were never able to dance again? How would you feel?” As this song says, they wouldn’t regret anything. The talent they had for dance was only temporary. They would make the most of it while they could.
@dwmwat3 жыл бұрын
I'll just add that A Chorus Line includes a lot about "identity" - at the start of the musical, you'll see a group of dancers, usually horribly (and deliberately, which is hard!) out of sync, dressed differently, all coming from different backgrounds. As the story progresses, and many are given "thank you" - code for "get lost", the ensemble is reduced to a core group and the individuality is gradually molded into ... well, the closing number is "One". "One singular sensation, every little step she takes. One thrilling combination, every move that she makes..." And I absolutely agree that it connects beautifully with Hamilton. But for anyone who's been in any theatrical production you'll appreciate the special moments that happen during endless rehearsals and finally when you have an audience. I think Amaya puts it pretty well (I adjusted the voice a bit), "make the most of it while you can!" (Not a bad life lesson.) "5, 6, 7, 8..." [which is "A Chorus Line" code for "Let's do it again!"]
@amayajones683 жыл бұрын
@@dwmwat Thank you. Your reply is very eloquent as well. I’ve been in a few theatrical productions, and I love that feeling of connecting with my cast during the rehearsal process and when we get to show our hard work to an audience. It’s just magical.

I'm going to tell a story I'll be telling as an old lady. In the early 90s, b'way was dying. It certainly wasn't a huge spectacular like it is now To help sales, Broadway had these incredible deals. Children's tickets were half price or free. On top of that, MTA also offered free or reduced fares for children. Suddenly taking a family of 5 to The City (a mere 45 min train ride) to see a show was still a splurge, but affordable. We didn't really go on vacation as a kid, but I did see a bunch of shows. They were literally giving tickets away. Buy one get one. Anything to fill the seats. My first show was Les Miserables. My older sister's was a chorus line and it seriously delights me to think of a 6 year old watching Hamilton, with so much stuff going over their head. And then to hear it again years later and be like, damn. My parents let me watch this!? I'm so freaking glad Broadway survived. Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now (But not over there, just focus on b'way 🤣)

So many people both in our broadway audiences, and yes, even on stage, do not know all those shoulders they have been standing on. 40 years is the blink of an eye. a generation earlier, Broadway saw new stars like Ethel Merman, Alfred Drake, Gertrude lawerence, Robert Preston, and Carol Channing. Its nice to see this moment.

When actors audition for parts, they must provide a "headshot" (a photo of themselves) that they leave with the producers.
