She was a woman, I think. It's hard to tell with all the skaven sounds and the music, but I think that soldier was female. Not really important, excellent save. Still gotta question the, ah, practicality of bringing a halberd in the freaking sewers though XD

@@playwars3037You can lock down a chokepoint using the range of a pole arm to keep multiple verminfolk back. Spears, halberd, bills etc will always be the Chad weapon.

@@thehappy_spearman1389 The problem is that it assumes the vermin doesn't use swarm tactics where any member is disposable...except that swarming the enemy is basically 50% of their tactics, the rest uses artillery and weapon teams. You can't hold them at bay without a literal wall of pikes, thus a halberd isn't going to provide any meaningful zone of control.

@@playwars3037 halberd works pretty well in the space, actually. The halberd's one of the most versatile weapons humanity has created, capable of being used for both close and medium range. It's a solid pick, especially since the Skaven have armour; however inconsistent that armour among their ranks is.

This is Age of Sigmar universe. Not sure if Skaven is still secret or aware of them (at least not turn into paranoia since Sigmarines are a thing or some sort of magical wards to prevent them from bursting underground). Like many of them were refugees along with Dwarves after Chaos and Skaven invaded mortal realms (many of them having to be culled by Sigmar reluctantly).

Really puts how badass the Five are in perspective. Fought armies of Skaven and Nurgle cultists across the Empire, yet a small horde in a tunnel that mostly didnt even care about the intruders was enough to send a similar party running for safety. And even then not all of them escaped.

To be fair, the Five from Vermintide are highly specialized veterans in their respective roles. A witch hunter with prior experience fighting skaven (rare) A failed bright wizard, even failed a wizard is still so sooo strong. A veteran soldier who was a company commander and has been in various campaigns. A fucking wood elf waywatcher. And a Dwarven ranger who is the cousin of Okrii.

The most terrifying thing about Skaven isn't their endless numbers, not their warpstone weapons, not their mutant monsters, not the horrific plagues and poisons they weaponize, and not the fact they would've already conquered the world if they stopped squabbling. It's that they can be right under you, and you wouldn't even know it until it's too late.

To be fair, it's kinda the only faction that fights like not -all- the commanders and leaders have horrid brain damage. They actually scout ahead, plan and execute tactically sound manouvers, instead of throwing meat at the wall and observing the results. Though they're certainly not shy with their own casualties.

My take on that was that, for humans, it's nocive if breath for prolonged periods of times without protection. Like some chemicals, lethals to some specious and just irritating for others.

It is beautiful, I like seeing the Skaven in action, but how is this a tide? Also it's really jerky animation. If it didn't almost freeze frame in places this could be so much more compelling. I grew up with 80's cartoons that had more competent animation.

People underestimate how terrifying the skaven really are, mostly because they are painted as incompetent, but really they are probably one of the scariest faction to encounter, what do you do against a race that cares little for its own members and even less for you? but has the sheer manpower and technological might to, if they ever gathered together, overthrow every other faction? The end times literally happened because the skaven decided to work together for once toward a common goal, and the only reason chaos won was because they could take advantage of the results of the skaven's actions.

They have another series called Blacktalon it's just 3 episodes so far but I feel like we will see the Skaven there later on too. They have a lot of unique races featured it's pretty good.

You know, I like the premise, the style, the sound, and even the animation (the low number of frames is weird, but it gave it a somewhat ordered feel, like we’re seeing a play-by-play of a battle that has already happened), but I would have REALLY appreciated it if every action shot wasn’t accompanied by a blinding flash of light.

Hammer and Bolter is for short animations and stories, so its done cheaply to get the most out of it. Some of the stories are cool, but yeah I do wish they at least up it's animation quality. Its the big ones like Angel of Death or Pariah Nexus that you're looking for.

Which, I don’t recommend subscribing yet, they have a few things worth watching, but it only totals like 2-3 hours of worthwhile content. Not worth subscribing over.
