Great video. Love the ball comparison from different style bowlers and the explanation at the end of video with specto data is really beneficial.

Glad you found it helpful that's exactly how we're trying to set things up. We want to do more than just have someone throw strikes and tell you a ball is great. In this case however.. the ball is great 🤣

We keep it unbiased. While some testers may be none of our employees are on staff so we are able to compare across brands quite honestly.

I'm going to be 68 next month, and just started bowling again this past season, after a gap of 35+ years, due to injuries and two back surgeries. About 10 days after buying my Hammer Black Widow 3.0, while practicing on a Saturday afternoon, I bowled a 280, followed by two strikes to start the next game, and a total of 12 strikes in a row (a new personal best score for me). Not bad for an old fart with a bad back, recovering from a stroke, with a 167 league average! My Hammer Black Widow 3.0 is the first ball out of my bag now, and I'm hoping it will help me reach my goals of eventually getting a 300 game, and raising my average up to 200 in league play next fall season. Lofty goals at my age, but I believe I can do it, if I maintain my health a little longer.

I was concerned that some might see it as hijacking your comment section, but I also hoped that my story might inspire a few other people my age to get back into bowling. It's not extreme exercising, but every little bit helps at this age.

Will get a good test on Sunday. Bought the ball the day it was released and threw 8 series so far on a 42ft fairly oily house pattern, with a high series of 788 and a low of 719. Sunday is the first tournament. A 35ft, 7 game marathon. Lets see........

The Eternity is still a step above the black widow. It’s earlier that the 3.0 the difference really stands out on sport/challenge shots. The black window is definitely a better choice on the house shot for me personally but I love the Eternity Pi

I'm looking into buying this or the BW 2.0 Hybrid and getting back into bowling. Been a handful of years not touching a ball. Thoughts if this would be too much for a new first ball and go with the Hybrid or 3.0 can also be a solid first ball for getting back into the swing of things? Thanks!!

How would BW3.0 compare to a Summit?

So when would you suggest Pi usage vs 3.0 based on Specto data findings or do you see them in the same spot in the bag?

It would depend on how large the arsenal and what conditions the player sees, but generally speaking with the Pi being less responsive down lane it would be better suited for fresh or flatter conditions, and as the pattern develops or you are bowling on patterns with higher ratios, the 3.0 would be better suited. I have a 15lb BW2.0 hybrid and I am looking at the BW3.0 12lb as a second ball. But, I see the core is different in the 12lb. and looks like sym. instead of asym. Can you comment on the difference between the two cores and how that will affect the roll?

The lower differential will certainly reduce overall hook potential, but the cover stock is the most important part in ball motion, and you’re still getting the high-performance cover. For more detail, and nuance, I would suggest seeing a shop operator that can watch you bowl.

Does anyone know how the BW 3.0 compares to the Hellcat XLR8?

I have my XLR8 definitely straighter through the fronts, but not as much in the back. I guess if you want to compare it to anything in the video, I'd compare it to the Extreme Envy; they're pretty close. At demos, we usually get people a bit further left with the 3.0 than what we had when the XLR8 was coming to the demos. Hellcat can handle more volume in my opinion though.

Being new to bowling, why wouldn’t you drill all three balls the same. Wouldn’t that be a better comparison?

Yes, if we had the luxury of drilling the bowling balls only the purpose of comparison. However, these balls belong to bowlers that are drilling the balls to fit in their bags, and we are at the mercy of what they might need. Most of the layout differences though, are normally minimal and would not have enough of an impact on ball motion to create significantly different results. Many people said that about Jakob Butturf before he hit it big. Correen made the master’s telecast in her first year on the PWBA tour, so I wouldn’t ever be quick to judge anyone’s delivery. Let the results speak for themselves. Thanks for your opinion and watching!
