have you ever been curious about the gear/clutch assembly lxph01. there are 2 Teflon/plastic small rings inside I didn't photograph the placement of 1 and need an exploded view of there order. I took mine completely apart all went well but the one little ring. been buying parts from you for many years thanks for being there

XTRA TIP... if screw "really" stuck use a hand held impact hammer socket with hex shaft flat screw driver in it (screw had burred over a bit, also had threadlocker on it)... in my case also had to dismantle the gear rings other side... cut a socket to fit the butterfly inside... same to unscrew the chuck itself

Mine has an awful chuck wobble. It is a makita hammer drill DHP482, black and white, 2016 model. I would like to change the gearbox, any tips if I could find it new ? And how much it costs? Thank you.

Hi, I just brought a Makita DHP482RFWJ (white one) and its also got terrible "run-out". I even sent it back to a Makita repair specialist under warranty but today i got it back and believe it or not but it still exactly the same, im fuming mad :( . They say they replaced the gearbox but im not so sure. Why does the top brand of drill suffer from such bad quality control. Assuming they actually did replace the gearbox what is the problem causing this "run-out" ? any suggestions @eReplacementParts.com

I have a Makita XPH12 hammer drill which is stuck in hammer mode, making normal drilling/driving operation difficult, so I’d like to replace the gear assembly. I was able to remove the screw inside the chuck, but so far have been unable to break the chuck free using the technique shown. I’ve tried many combinations of settings as well, no luck so far. The drill simply rotates when I strike it and doesn’t break loose. Any tips?

Hi Ben, hammer drills have a tendency to make it harder to remove the chuck because of the hammer action it is subjected to. Just make sure your drill is in low gear and is set in the drill position. It should release after a few or more hard wacks with the hammer.

It's called a gear assembly? Okay. But there's one thing. When I hammered the allen wrench to remove the chuck, the motor turns and the chuck won't come out. Suggestions?

Hi Andrew, if you can't get your gear assembly out of hammer mode, you will need to replace it.

Hi, so I removed the retaining screw with little difficulty, but I have tried repeatedly to remove the chuck as instructed in the video. I tightened the largest allen wrench I have into the chuck, and struck it with a hammer, but this has not loosened the chuck. I have tried this time and again to no avail. I have tried holding the metal chuck tightening ring with channel locks while hitting the allen wrench with the hammer, but still nothing--it will not loosen. I can get the entire thing to keep rotating by continuing to striking it with the hammer, but it will not loosen. The only thing I seem to have accomplished is getting the allen wrench stuck in the chuck. I can't seem to loosen the chuck to remove the hex wrench. Do you have any advice?

Hi John, make sure you have the speed setting on low and the clutch in the drill position.

Had the same problem and made sure my settings were correct and it worked flawlessly!

Agree, clutch on drill setting and speed on low. Anything else just moves noisily when you use the hammer.
