Having survived countless hours of rigorous scientific testing at the hands of Glidewell Laboratories' award-winning R&D department, BruxZir® has been called "chip-proof," "bullet-proof," and "virtually unbreakable." Never satisfied, we decided to up the ante by pitting it against a traditional PFM in a less conventional test we dubbed... the Hammer Test.

I’ve been delivering my crowns improperly all these years! Who knew I was supposed to use a hammer?

I use Bruxzir sometimes but prefer Lithium disilicate monolithic (e.Max), it is better looking, has very similar physical qualities to enamel (biomimicry) and can be bonded to a non retentive crown preparation allowing for a conservation of tooth structure. Gold or monolithic zirconia are best on second molars especially in bruxers (people who grind their teeth habitually). For my part I have several gold crowns and no Zirconia in my own mouth. I believe gold will retain a much better marginal seal than any other material unless someone can show me evidence to prove otherwise. PFM's are only any good on a tooth that is already severely damaged as they require a horrendous amount of space which has to be taken out of the poor old tooth, they are ugly as well. The rare PFMs I provide all have gold under them. Bruxzir is ok but still needs that traditional preparation with Ferrule so isn't conservative compared with e.Max.

There is a reason why our natural teeth were evolved breakable. Something unbreakable in mouth is as dangerous as a metal bullet. Ceramic breaks yes but absorbs shocks - just as naturally its intended to work.

Is this stronger than a gold crown?

POLISHED zirconia is less abrasive to opposing teeth than Porcelain. Especially porcelain that has been in use for several years. It will mainain its smooth finish when porcelain does not.

No. PFM is porcelain fused to metal. As we all know porcelain is fragile and is not meant to withstand pressure. Your natural enamel is stronger than a PFM or even a full gold crown. Keep up with your dental hygiene and try to keep your pearly whites healthy! But if you must have a tooth colored posterior crown, BruzZir is a nice option.

Funny stuff guys. We all know PFM's are weak compaired to monolithic zirconia so why not try this test vs a gold crown. Better yet, if you want to call it bullet proof then why not shoot it. That would make for a great vid.
