I once operated an asphalt recycler and I can assure you it would easily crush a ball peen hammer, 20-pound sledge hammer, or a bronze statue of MC Hammer.

I don't know why, but I found this to be deeply satisfying for some weird reason.

The sledgehammer is supposed to go in handle first, but even if it did the machine would get jammed because it's impossible to chew through a solid piece of metal that thick, and the idiot in the video teasing with the hammer knew it. In a similar fashion no shredder would be able to go through proper half-inch thick I-beam used in building construction, weights made out of solid steel used for scales, large dumb bells, solid cast iron blocks (engine, BBQ grill, radiator) or, my favorite, any length of hardened 22mm security chain. In fact, hardened steel "whatever" would seriously screw up a machine like this beyond repair. Even the biggest 42 inch bolt cutters with a Rockwell hardness of 50 or higher on the jaws would pose a challenge if you tried to feed it through one of these. And then we haven't even tried to destroy the kinds of materials you see used in bridge construction (suspension cables and bolts), ship building (propellers, rudders, anchor chain links) or even transportation (car/truck wheels, driveshafts, differentials). Just throw ONE set of traction chains off a 200,000 lb wheel loader into your shredder and see what the end result is. Yeah, lots of laughs after a huge bang and an expensive heap of useless machinery.

My Expectations vs Life

I noticed the spark proof sledgehammer did not get eaten. That would of really tested the machine as they are made of either ampco bronze or beryllium copper material. Both alloys have a strength of over 190 K conservative number, probably higher.
