Happy Father's Day 2022! We have a review today on the new 9mm Z9 magazine from Shield Arms. This mag lets you now have 9 rds in the mag plus one in the chamber for a total of 10 rounds, making the Glock 43 relevant in the new micro 9 high capacity world that we now have, thanks to the Sig P365, Springfield Hellcat and more!

I bought the 43 for its size and weight, 7 rds is perfect, carried a S&W revolver for many years, the 43 is a pleasure...

Carry my G43 daily with the standard 6 round magazine and carry an extended magazine as a backup.

Agreed. People always bring up capacity with the 43 but if I was so worried about capacity I wouldn't buy a micro compact in the first place. I love the size and form factor and am very comfortable with 6+1 and/or an extra mag on occasion.

I rarely get in a shoot out with the Wild Bunch,, so 6+1 is fine for me.

I use the Pearce plus one extension on my factory mags and the Vickers plus 2 extension on my spare mag. They have been 100% reliable and still comfortable to carry. The Pearce grip is a plus one and also no longer than the factory magazine. The 43 is not what some folks wanted but for me it works just fine.

I have many weapons, hi caps mostly. Prior LE it was needed, now it’s an option for specific travel circumstances. G43 with shield Z9 is perfect. Remember to train and hit your targets. If you cannot accomplish your position with 10, don’t carry

My Shield Z9 mags sometimes does not lock when empty but as long as my G43 goes bang everytime without failure to feed and failure to eject I am fine with it. 9+1 is enough for me as I always carry 1 extra magazine which is 9 rounds too.

I have a 43x, 43 and 42. The 43 with 6 round mags still serves a great purpose…. It’s for times when I need to carry less weight with less ammo, like inside my front pocket on my jeans. Other ticker model firearms just aren’t as viable for me. Added ammo means added weight and sometimes that little addition of weight, makes a difference to me.

Magguts allows you to replace the follower and spring in the OEM mags giving you smooth 7 plus1 rounds with the flush cut mag instead of six plus 1. Without any added extension.

colt -- thanks for making that point. i have a 43 with pierce plus 1 baseplate/pinky grips on the 2 stock mags and 7+1 is really plenty, i have been debating getting the z9 magazine but i really dont think i would ever need this many rounds other than maybe at the range, but there i prefer my full size.

@@infotechsailor Don't do the Shield Arms... Keep your Pearce +1 for in the gun while in holster and use a FAB Defense +4 on your backup mag/mags.

@@christopherwg4236 The Magguts +1 base plate has almost the same thickness of the regular. So can also have 8+1 with an almost flush mag.

43 with flush mag is my easiest gun to conceal for when I'm hiking or wearing lighter clothing. Love the 43 .

Good video. But I’d rather carry factory original 6 round magazines plus one or two spares in the pocket. So what if I have to reload…. I’m quick. Nothing beats factory Glock magazines for ultimate reliability.

With a regular +1 Extention its only a difference of 2 rounds or with a Magguts +1 follower and +1 extention just 1 round difference. Also still people carry 5-6 shot snubbys. With a regular mag of 6 shots you have 7 total and faster reloads. I dont see where the G43 should be irrelevant.

ive been using vickers tactical +2 extensions they work great. and your still using your factory mags.

Exactly. 8+1 and still slimmer than my 43x. I have also and I do not recommend it trimmed the bottom of the stock follower and took a coil off the mag spring to get 7 in the factory mag. I have not had a single malfunction with it. Others have done it but I do not recommend anyone carry with them.

Still pocket carry my 43 with the Z9 mag in it. Is this magical? No. But it is still a smaller package with a higher round count.

I’m interested in purchasing the z9 magazine just to use at the shooting range on a rented G43. Will I be damaging the polymer release button on the rental if I use the z9 magazine for only one hour?

I use the Taran Tactical extensions. So far they have been pretty reliable.

I feel like one of the few who actually bought the 43 cause of the flush fit 6 round capacity. Still a shootable gun but actually sub compact, though P365 does offer 'more'. For me such guns are not something I need heavy combat readiness for. I'm blasting 5-6 rounds tops then I'm gone with the wind. Otherwise I'm pulling some kind of full size pistol with at least a 4 inch barrel and 15 round capacity.

If you want a high capacity just change mag after firing 3 rounds then you’ll have fresh 10 rds .G43 was built on one purpose. Concealed comfort. My 43 is just fine.

more comfortable than a snubby 38 with a speed loader. some snubbys are 5 shot. the 43 with the flush mag makes a very small pocket 9mm. since i'm commenting a year later, how's your 43 holding up? 😂

I bought these mags and tried them-they worked ok,but I had one failure to feed and that was enough.I carry a Glock because of its boring reliability.I am now using the Vickers Tactical plus 2’s on all my factory mags-thousands of rounds through these with zero probs.This is my summer carry-three spares plus the one in the weapons makes 33 rounds.Enough to fight your way out of most or get to a rifle.

Are there Magguts kits for the regular Glock 43 magazines that increase the capacity to 7 or 8? If so, I’d rather go that route if I had a Glock 43.

MagGuts has a +2 extension that bumps it up to 8+1 while still being significantly shorter in length than this one. I do kind of wish they would at least try to do a +3 to compete with this, but I'm not sure it would be possible.

Magguts products are absolutely reliable. Never an issue with any of them in my Glocks, Sigs, or Springfields. Can’t say the same for the Shield Arms.

Super easy fix man, if this if the first bullet you put in the magazine is super loose and it's almost falls into the magazine. Take the magazine apart. Take this spring and stretch it. Pull the string apart gently until its a little longer and it it'll make it have enough tension to lock it up, and I've had it happen on other guns.

I got two Z9 mags. Brand new out of the box they both jammed multiple times at the first range visit. I put in some time loading, unloading, and breaking in the new springs at home. Second time at the range they didn't lock up. But even now, if you're just flicking bullets out of the magazine with your thumb they get stuck. I'll likely go back to my factory mags and chalk up the Shield experience as a loss. It has me doubting them working when I need them.

Bought these Z9 3 pack kit on sale and sold them without even trying them. No regrets. Too many issues with weak springs causing followers to not lock back. I run MagGuts +1 and +2 and for extension, I run Vickers. I don’t trust the Z9’s. Perhaps Shield can make a Gen 2 like the S15’s then maybe I’ll revisit but I only trust OEM Glock mags.

Z9 magazine does not work well with my Glock 43 because sometimes my bullet does not enter the chamber. The magazine does not push the bullet in the chamber sometimes. Not reliable.

Or you can just use the FAB defense mag extension on your backup mag for 10rds. These Shield Arms mags are often junk and cause malfunctions. Pearce +1 on mag in gun and a FAB Defense +4 on OEM mag as backup and you are good to go.

Honestly I solved the whole capacity issue with my G43 and the whole reliability issue with the 43x SA15 combo too…I sold them and bought a Sig P365 and P365 XL

43x no brainer, but if you already have a 43 and dont want to spend the money on a new gun than its worth it. This mag literally makes it the same size as a 43x. So dont buy a 43 just to put a z9 mag, might as will get a 43x stock, or 43x 15 plus

Maybe it’s just me, but these aren’t as impressive as the 15 round 43X/48 magazines. 9+1 with an extension, isn’t a huge improvement. When I first heard about these, I was thinking they would be 9 or 10 rounds with a flush magazine. Not quite the same magic as going from 10-15 rounds.

My Glock 26 holds 10+1. The 43 must be a narrow grip.

Yes, the 43 is a slimeline. Same as the 43x and 48. The frames of these guns are much thinner than previous Glocks.

What do you mean you go to the g42 instead of the g43 the size comparison is negligible you wouldn't even know the difference. 9 mm is better than 380.

If glock could make the grip little more thick, just the grip, would fit more ammo. The 26 makes too bulk to carry side waistband, for someone not skinny, its hard

For my needs I like the G43 in the 6-round configuration for optimal concealment. In that configuration, I also carry ProMag 10-round polymer mags. These 9-rounders are great, too. That way I have optimal concealment AND NYS-max magazines ready to go. We all have different needs and styles.

I had a 43 but sold it for a 43X and then missed the smaller size of the 43 so I just bought a 43 frame and swapped everything over. Now happy again

Buyer Beware. I bought 2 Shield Arms magazines and their steel mag catch for my Glock 48 and it has constant FTF malfunctions. I sent it all back to Shield Arms, they tested it and declared nothing was wrong with the mags or mag catch and sent them back. I put over 500 rounds through my Glock 48 trying to figure out the problem but the SA mags still don't work. They're just sitting in a drawer collecting dust, total waste of money.
