Sadies dog shelter....www.tarptent.com/sidecar.html
Badly needed woods time was had. Just two nights. On the Superior Hiking Trail here in Minnesota. 4 1/2 hour drive up for me. No permits needed. No fees.
Was going solo but as fate would have it....ended up hiking with a memeber here, alifeoutdoors and his hound Sadie. Both of them strong hikers and love being out there.
Right goodie of a time. It was nice to have some interaction of the human and canine type on the trail. As a loner I need that from time to time.
Weather was perfect. Cool and the sun was warm.
Slept in my Chameleon hammock and it is so comforable. Used my HG top quilt. Oh so luxurious. Frankenquilt topped...or should I say...bottomed it all off. My DIY Blackcrow tarp kept me cozy.
All secure in sector seven,
Shug

Getting old and mushy is good, Shug. I just helped my Mom celebrate her 90th, she said she'll still skydive again before 100. She's like a million dollar bottle of wine! Imagine what you'll be like when you're 90...

Hey Shug great to see you back! Big fan here in the UK! I noticed the penguin bar you had and yes they are delicious ! Here is one for you to try next time you are out...... bite off one corner at one end of the penguin bar and then do the same to the other end on the opposite side and use the bar as a straw when you drink your morning coffee! Sounds weird I know but o when that bar melts its really good! You have to be quick mind as it melts fast! give it a go and let me know what you think!

Excellent Video! I may go backpacking at the SHT in August. That's an old railroad insulator for telegraph lines. My son has been collecting railroad items for many years. I only hike solo or with my wife, but I would make an exception to hike with the great Shug!! If you ever want to hike with someone experienced in the Porcupine Mountains let me know. I'm a lifelong Yooper! LOL Bob "uptrail71"

Hey Shug. Could you please do a video on hammock gear care (hammock, down quilts etc etc). What you do to clean, dry. Thanks

Really? I take off my suspension maybe once in a while and just wash it on delicate with Woolite. Or in a tub. Quilts get washed in down wash.

Hey Shug, I’ve watching your videos for a couple of years. I love your videos man. Would you perhaps make a video on jitters/fears for a first time solo trip. I’m sure even experienced backpackers have issues with being in a pitch black forest at night far from any person, amongst the critters and noises of the night. Any insight would help a lot of us that are considering a first solo trip.

I may just do that. It is not for everyone but I find peace in it.

Hey Shug! This looks like an AMAZING trail! I was wondering how you find trails/backpacking trails or just places to go dispersed camping so easily. Maybe it's because in the southeast we don't have much but I thought myself lucky just finding out I could get a permit to backpack on these long mountain biking trails close by.

Well.....I scour online and go to camping stores and look at guide books. Mostly they just show themselves to me and then I go. Even better clser to home.

Interesting to see the difference latitude makes. Here we are in full green. There your deciduous trees are getting started. I always wonder what virgin areas would have looked like. Around here there are no such things but I have seen stumps that you could set up a two man tent on, so it must have been something to see for sure. Props for the dog care. Thanks again
