After getting numerous questions about the setup I use to record Hammond with, I thought I'd share it with you. Here is a clip with two different leslie 147 cabinets.
The difference is small enough for me not to really favor the one to the other, though they definitely give different vibes while playing/improvising. Especially listen to the character of the keyclick on both leslies.
Same mics, same distance to the leslie and same gain setting were used. The reverb comes from BREVERB 2.
Recording gear used:
HI mics: RFT DM622
LO mic: Sennheiser MD421
Custom preamps with Carnhill transformers
Prism Orpheus interface
In real life the JBL leslie is 2-3dB louder, which really helps in a live situation. However when playing organ bass, it comes at a cost, the original speakers seem to have a deeper bass response.

I came here to listen to the DM622 and stayed because of the playing. That was amazing.

You really know how to show why the B3+Leslie sound is unique. Monk would have liked your rendition of his composition.

The first A-100 organs were produced in 1959. They had the necklace type reverb as found in contemporary Hammond Tone Cabinets. The A-100 was the first tonewheel console with built-in reverb. In the early 60's a few more models of the A-100 theme were issued, the French Provincial A-102 and the spiffy 'Contemporary' A-101.

A beautiful piece. A new one on me to see the elbow used to change the Leslie controls. I once built a simple silent foot switch and later a knee switch. These can incorporate holding them on ( for fast speed ) E.g. Sometimes original Leslie hand controls just get in the way and are prone to transport damage?

Fantastic playing and recording! JBLs definitely accentuate the leakage and key click, but I’m kinda liking it. Is it too bright with the JBLs on all Drawbars out and C3 chorus? Just curious. Subscribed!

Donald Fagen et. al. Nice work. I have an A-100, but put the 122 amp in it. It is two channel low impedance and cuts the noise from the console. Original Alnico 15". 147 is high impedance. I bought a new JBL before for the 147. No real low end. Nice playing.

The JBL woofer has a deeper bass response than the original bass speaker and the JBL treble driver, although not bad at all - just different, fits well (no exaggerated treble response like with the Hammond Suzuki OEM treble driver). Probably the original treble driver combined with a modern bass speaker would be interesting The stock combo breaks up nicely though if you increase the volume whereas with the modern speakers you could push the amp a bit harder to get a similar sound as with the old speakers. I really enjoyed that comparison, thank you ;-).

@Jerry Lanier I'm using an Atlas PD5VH which I consider way superior to the PD60A. Previously, I also had the PD60A inside my Leslie. Although it sounded powerful, the organ sounded a little dull when I wanted to use the Scanner chorus and I started to wonder since there seemingly was so much more top end response with the PD60A than with the Jensen V21. The PD60A definitely is a loud upper driver due to a significant increase in volume at around 1.2 kHz. I checked that with an EQ and if you take a look at the frequency response diagram within the data sheet of the speaker it's very accurate. But the speaker also rolls off at 3.7 kHz. Therefore you don't get much response above 5 kHz which is essential to the Scanner chorus sound. I had an all original Leslie next to the one with the PD60A and the Jensen V21 definitely had more upper midrange to offer which made the chorus sound way nicer. It's kinda crazy because your ears tell you that there should be more top end response with the PD60A than with the V21. In fact, the PD60A is just more midrangy but has way less top end. Therefore, I replaced it with the PD5VH which sounds more balanced (no exaggerated midrange) and has more top end. With JBL woofers, you get a tighter low end and less growl when you push the amp. If you like a big, tight, only slightly overdriven tone, a JBL is a great choice.

Do you have any idea what jbl speaker is in that cabinet? Just curious.

It is the JBL 2482 on the top, with a 2205B on the lower rotor. You do have to adjust the values of the crossover network, since both speakers have a higher sensitivity than the original ones. Especially the 2482 is a strong driver. To keep things balanced, attenuation of that driver presents a more balanced image. The 2205B has a rising curve in the midrange which I suppressed by picking a different capacitor. I ended up with a 4.7Ohms resistor in series with the 2482 driver, using a 5.6uF capacitor. I ended up with 18.8uF on the low crossover. The coils are still original value. Along with personal experience, I got good info from Pat at hammondb3andleslietips.com.
