They later declared the Beetle to be the winner of that challenge as it had never broken down the entire journey, unlike any of their cars. I've also heard the producers gave it to the local guide afterward as a gift of gratitude for his service. Personally I'd think it's by far the best for the challenge at hand, but I'm probably biased as I daily one.

@@hariodinio I wouldn't really be able to compare an Opel to a VW Beetle as I'm in the USA (or as Brits would say, "ungrateful colonist," at this point I'd love for England to take us back), we don't have Opels here. My dad has an Opel GT, one of the few that ever did reach our shores, very rare, and his hasn't run in decades. But I have a Beetle myself and know from such experience that it would be a good car for an adventure like this. We do know that the Opel did well enough, as Oliver is still running to this day - can't say that for the others from this challenge.

@@michaelbreckshot6589 Well I myself anyway totally agree - I daily a '73 Super Beetle, doubt I could ever really find any other car satisfactory. Pretty good in snow (usually), and like you say fantastic off road, unexpectedly good. Last summer took it up some mountain Forest Service roads, was a little worried how it would do, but quickly realized it was really in it's element, felt like it wanted to take them fast. Can't do as rugged of stuff as 4x4s, but on those roads specifically it was probably the fastest vehicle possible, except maybe for a dedicated off-road race vehicle.

Because like with the classic VW Beetle, all of the trio disliked the 2CV. Furthermore a Lexus SC430 would not have lasted long on that terrain.
