Its sad but it was quite common for the time. Infact, the Gajapatis of Odisha were trying to the same thing. They had come very close to destroying Hampi as well but the Vijayanagara Army managed to somehow chase the Gajapati army away. The Cholas also had destroyed Anuradhapura and Kedarah, the Pandyans destroyed Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the Kalachuris destroyed Kannauj, the Parmaras destroyed Manaykheta, the Mauryans destroyed Sisupalgarh, the Marathas destroyed Surat and Murshidabad, the Mughals destroyed Golconda and Chittor, the Suris destroyed Champaner and Gour and even the Vijayanagara Empire destroyed a few cities in Maharashtra.

Contrary to what many people think, the Adil Shahi and Qutub Shahi Sultans of Bijapur and Golconda respectively were quite tolerant. They both employed majority Hindus in their government and as tax administrators. A large majority of craftsmen, painters etc who fled Vijayanagara found refuge in Bijapur which made it even larger than pre-talikota hampi. The Adil shahis were noted for transforming Bijapur into a city of music and knowledge and renamed the city Vidyanagar where scholars across the world came to learn ayurveda, sanskrit and persian scriptures, mathematics and science among other things. Ibrahim Adil Shah II was a devotee of Saraswati and Ganesh and was bestowed the name Jagadguru after he built several Hindu temples. The Adil Shahis were known for their patronage of Urdu, Marathi and Kannada literature and music. On the other hand, the Qutub Shahis of Golconda were patrons of Telugu culture. They are credited for continuing the Telugu golden age of literature after the fall of Vijayanagara.

Anybody imagine the lotus palace with coloured carpets on the floor, royal sitting and sleeping facilities with interior decoration as well as large and wide coloured curtains and bed lights type fire torches upon the walls on a full moon day night. Servants and sepoys loitering with services, peacocks, rabbits, deers, parrots and the wandering within the vicinity, fragrance put into smoking urns.... imagine the court compatriots of royal people in their costumes.....
