Replace Lithonia C2T6 Circline 55W fluorescent bulb with a 18W LED replacement. Complete instructions. The new light is twice a bright as the 55 Watt C2 4-pin unit and the color rendering is much improved. Here is link to round panel lamp I used:
www.aliexpress.com/item/Ultra... YSI Lighting Store but you can find similar units and other possible solutions too. This unit takes 85VAC to 265VAC so can easily handle 120V US power voltage.
I cut off wires at ballast and used wire nuts to attach to LED driver power supply. Used two #10-24 bolts at 2" length to mount. Hampton Bay Windward model.

*Love it! Keeps the room very **Fastly.Cool** . The manual states it comes with a year warranty and 5 year part replacement. The compressor makes the typical sound...small price to pay for AC.*

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. kzfaq.infoUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Thanks, Kent. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for to update my newly-acquired used Wayward II fan. I hated the old fluorescent bulb, and I figured that someone had successfully converted it. Kudos, and thanks for the link. BTW, instead of the new LED panel frame just "hanging" loosely on the bolts, I plan to place an additional set of nuts on the bolts as backstops (in place of the wooden spacers) to keep everything secure. Just set the nuts evenly from the lower end of the bolts to keep the LED plate level. Also allows for adjustment as desired. Thanks again!
@KentDiego
@KentDiego 6 жыл бұрын
I should have just trimmed the spacers back a bit. But just hanging works fine. I have been very happy with the LED conversion and have converted over a few halogen lamps using small 30W modules screwed to heatsinks.

Why not just replace the bulb with an LED circline T9 bulb? They're around $20 on Amazon. Has the same connector, and if you get the right size it will fit the existing clips.
@DonovanBuck
@DonovanBuck Жыл бұрын
It doesn't work. The Circline LED's only output light on one side. It's the side opposite of the 4-pin connector. If you try and mount the circline LED with the 4-pin connector angled up it will not fit. The only way it will fit in the clips is with the light emitting side facing up.

Great video - I am going to attempt to do this but cannot find a link for a replacement LED as the one you had posted is not working. Also I noticed someone mentioned using Neodymium Magnets instead of drilling holes...thinking that would be easier?? Any links for any of these parts would help. Thanks!

Thank you. I had just ordered a different type of LED replacement light for mine and was not sure how to take mine apart. My original bulb claims 2700K and the new one claims 6000K so I’m hoping I’ll get more light. I’ve always thought it was too dim for being the only light in my Family room.
@KentDiego
@KentDiego 4 жыл бұрын
6000K is a very blue color. See how you like it and if too stark you can always replace with something warmer. The wattage is most important for brightness. 18W is a lot of light for a small to medium room.

Hello Kent, I tried this and it's working great when I use the wall switch. Have you tried leaving the wall switch 'ON' and turning the fan light off with the remote? My lights flicker when the wall switch is ON but the remote turned the light OFF. Constant 3.1v are coming from the fan itself. Did you have this problem, or have an idea to fix it?
@KentDiego

I hated the remote. The remote has dimming that the LED does not support. The old light was dimmer using remote even when up full. See my video on re-wiring fan to use wall switch and wall speed controller. I threw my remote away.

Hello Kent, I saw your solution and am currently in the process of trying it out. My problem now is I do not have power to the two wires coming down thru the fan center core to the light where you attached the LED light driver with wire nuts. There is power to the fan, it works. But somewhere in the electronics, power is not coming down to the light. Any ideas? Reset some of those DIP switches? Thanks!
@KentDiego
@KentDiego 5 жыл бұрын
The light power comes from the receiver unit. I hated the remote control. I made a video for this fan showing how to re-wire fan to bypass receiver and wire directly to wall switch and wall mounted speed control. Perhaps it will help you figure out problem.

Regarding the spacers... Two nuts on each machine screw tightened to each other and set to the "drop" you wanted for your fixture would have worked more elegantly than the wood. With a lot less effort as well. I liked your use of wing nuts.

I have discovered the real problem. It is the interference between the fan and the remote. After changing the socket and put in a regular 60w bulb I noticed the same flashing problem. No ballast! Still blinking. So when you remove a battery in remote, it stops. So this means you either have to install an on/off switch on the remote or hide the remote from the fan far enough that there is no interference. I'm now just trying to put it into a box with a lid besides my chair anyway i'll let you know.

@KentDiego

For mine I am sure the ballast got hot and shut off. For an LED there is a power supply supply that could have similar failure mode or maybe a fault in the LED's them selfs. You could try the LED conversion I did. Does not cost that much. Also note that I have another video showing how to remove the remote control and re-wire using wall switches.

correction that hampton bay fan was replaced already but i did have the exact one you show, and i dropped the glass and couldnt find that exact size with the threaded glass edge so I put up a home decorations merwry led fan. That is the one I am having this problem with. I dont see the reason to convert an led light to an led light. I can use a switch or a remote either way, but if the switch is off obviously the remote wont do any good. Im fine with that i just want to make it stop turning off by itself then on then off then on....
