I've got quite a bit of mic fright. Even going to my check-in days for AREC here, I can't quite bring myself to get on the mic. Part of it is my hearing is a bit bad so I feel horrible if I can't understand what someone has said.

I also have hearing loss. Have you tried headphones or adjusting the audio bass/treble to suit your hearing profile?

@@darylw-m9549 I do use headphones, they help a lot! I still have difficulties sometimes, but it is a lot better using them. I'm also not originally from ZL so the accents play a bit of a part in it as well, but I've certainly gotten better. 73s

Remember you guys are fortunate to have English as your native language. For people speaking a smaller language the fear that the other station may come back with more than a standard amateur radio exchange and they won't be able to make a sensible reply in English is real as well...

I think that's part of the reason that FT8 is so popular for DXing. It's just a standard exchange that any ham can make without having to know any English. As long as they understand what CQ, RR and 73 mean they're good to go.

Amateur bands are not emergency bands, only if all other options are not possible amateur bands can be used for emergency
