Hey guy! I hope this video was helpful for you! Here I show you different size tanks and explain why they are good and bad for hamsters, mice, rats etc. Bigger is always Better. Feel free to leave questions and comments down below :) Thanks!
PS. Yes I know and yes I understand their are dwarf species and Syrians. HOWEVER for me personally I think of them as 3 diff size categories. I say robo for tiny, dwarf for all the medium dwarf sizes, and Syrian is the largest. This is just how I think of it. That's why I say robo, dwarf and Syrian- bc all dwarfs are not equal in size, my opinion. 💗 thanks

I feel so bad. When I got hamsters when I was younger, I just stuck them in critter trails. I will never do that ever again.

I recently got a hamster. They suggested those tiny critter trails and as soon as I got home and put the included home and stuff in it, I knew it was way too small. Can't believe they recommended it. I felt like I was torturing my hamster until I got a big bin for her.

My uncle gave me 40 gallon tank as a present for my sweet little robo hamster❤❤❤My hamster has been really happyyy in his new tank. He's more active, playful and even licks my hand when I put my hand into the tank.

Finally, a video that shows the comparison for each size. I had a 10 gallon tank and was considering getting gerbils, but with your visuals, you've shown me just how impossible it would be for them. Unfortunately I can't get any pets now, since you can't get tanks above 10 gallons in my town :( No pets for me.

And its barely 450 square inches. Better to purchase a even larger, and more expensive aquarium, 55 gallons plus if you have the moolah. Me, I don't have the moolah, I purchased the giant 200 quart/50 gallon clear bin with over 600 square inches.

@@maddiecoon2834 They are great, they are actually gerbils, I ended up getting (I think its called a 30 gallon "tall") the biggest i could find that had a matching lid at the time. I'm actually currently about to buy a 2nd tank and connect them with a tunnel. They love the tall tank and have made burrows and hidden extra food in my view in the front underground. They are fascinating little cuties, adorable and smart!! Hope all is well with your little guy.

Smoky Mountain Starlight ooh that’s great! originally i was going to get gerbils, but i figured a syrian hamster would be better since they’re solitary. i got my ham about a week ago, and i wanted to get him a bigger cage. buying a 40gal (hopefully) as soon as possible

I have a 20 gallon for my winter white dwarf hamster. I had him in a smaller cage before sadly but he still showed no signs of stress in the cage before I got a 20 gallon tank

I live in the Netherlands and my cage is 80cm-50cm-60cm so the floorspace is about the same as a 40 gallon tank (breeder) and my hammy absolutely LOVES IT💗💗

So I’m getting a hamster today yay! I got all the supplies yesterday, my mom is getting an already made bin cage that is 50 gallons ( big enough I think hehe.) and than today when she brings it back I will set it all up and get the hammy! So exited!

The second floor are pointless really because it dosent add any space the hamster still has the same room just a different place to go so I would say to try and get a bigger one if you can’t I don’t think you should get a heater (if you don’t already have one) because it’s very cruel to make it that small

20gallons is actually an acceptable size for mice. I heard you mention it a few times, the ten gallon is the minimum size for three females or one male mouse. I found that as you've shown the ten gallon doesn't have the space for all the things I'd like to put in my mouse tank, but upgrading to a 20 gallon long is a choice and not a minimum cage size for mice.

I agree that no mouse or hamster should be kept in a 10 gallon I was just saying it is at this moment considered a minimum cage size. A 20 gallon long is a really amazing size for mice honestly and even bigger than that gives so many opportunities to do exciting things inside the tank

Hamsters need a big, unbroken floorspace. If you can´t afford a new big tank, you could look for a secondhand one or simply make a bin cage :)

I just got my first dwarf hamster and I have him in a 10 gallon aquarium. Because that's what I had. I was also told by somebody at a pet store that a ten gallon would be fine for a dwarf hamster

I own a dwarf hamster and keep him in a 20 gallon tank, but I have a great wheel, a very well balanced diet for him, good chews and I take him out and play with him a lot so he can run around and deep bedding for him to burrow in.

I have a Syrian hamster and plan on upgrading her into a 40 gallon. My grandpa was giving me one but my husband doesn't want to go up there to pick it up and we don't have much money. I tried a bin cage but that didn't work out. I was hoping a 20 gallon would work. I don't know what to do. She is in a 10 gallon right now. Didn't know it was to small until I got her into it. I tried putting two habitat twist together for her but it is to narrow and she is getting to big for the tubes.

I had a winter white dwarf hamster in a 40 gallon for years. She thrived for a much longer then expected time but got a pretty bad growth on her head and ended up passing away :(

One of my friends is moving across the country and has two hermit crabs that she is looking for homes for. She has a 10 gallon tank, with two hermit crabs, each quite small. Although I have wanted a hermit crab for years, I didn’t want to get one from a pet store. Would it be okay to continue to use this tank for them? I’ve been watching the rest of your videos and learning about the substrate, variety of food, heat source, multiple water sources, and really appreciate all of your information. I am just nervous that using her current tank size would be too small for them/although this is what she has been using for a year or two.

i have a robo hamster and at first we started with a barred cage, which she escaped from. Because of this we had to rush and buy a new cage so we ended up with a 10 gallon tank, my mom said this would only be temporary. However, it has been about a year and she is still in that tank. It was my birthday recently so i decided to buy her a new tank today and after looking it up I saw that 20 gallon is good so i bought it but now you’re saying it’s not enough so idk what to do because i know that my mom won’t take me to return the tank for my money back to buy a bigger one, will my robo be okay in the 20 gallon? i really just want her to be happy

I just bought my hamster a 20 gal long tank and I know I should've bought the 40 gal tank since petco was having their $1 per gallon sale but I don't have room for a bigger one at this time I barely convinced my parents for me to buy the 20 gal tank today!! My dwarf is about 2.5 inches long so she's pretty small. Should I consider buying a bigger one when she gets older/bigger?

It really depends on the temperament I think. My hamster now is sooo hyper, she always want to get out of her samla bin. But I’ve had lazy hamsters who are happy with the minimum.

CraftyPet Corner.... Welcome! Hey!! It depends on the size of the container but most likely yes! A 30 gallon sterilite container is approx 32Lx17H which is about 544sq.inches of floor space! That's the most important thing is room to run, and fit a proper wheel and bedding in terms of height! So if it is a 30gallon or larger it should be fine just has to have a minimum of 450sqin. Crafty Pet Corner I don't think it matters but if it is clear it may help the hamster with not being bored, not feel trapped. I've never heard anyone share a opinion so that's just mine but, is sure it would hurt it, if you cut out sides and put mesh wire on the holes it would be see through anyway :)

Gosh I’m late to this video, but my hamster died 9.24.2020 and he had a HUGE cage, but my mom got rid of it cause he seemed scared, and didn’t go on the 3rd floor, and only went on 2nd floor for water and food, so now that I’m getting a new one, I don’t want my new hamster to be scared? To roam around its own home 😅

I actually think that the 450 square inch minumum is only suitable for dwarf hamsters. I have 4 dwarf hamsters and 1 syrian. I keep the dwarfs in bin cages and 55 gallon aquariums. One of the bin cage is about 640 square inches, and before I had my dwarf hamsters I had my syrian in a bin cage. My syrian attempted chewing out of it! I think Syrians deserve more, but that may just be me. Now my syrian is in a 1200 square inch diy enclosure😊

With enough enrichment in the bin, the 50 gallon/200 quart clear bin is large enough for a Syrian. With hamsters don't get cheap at the store and settle for less than the largest bin in stock. Unfortunately aquariums larger than the 40 gallon breeder are just too expensive considering pet stores sell hamsters for $30...

I didn’t know this, I have my hamster in a crittertrail . My dwarf hamster keeps biting on anything plastic and he bites when I put my hand in the cage. When he is out of the cage he doesn’t bite. I’m going to buy a 20 gallon or more tank soon because I know he is stressed. Will he stop chewing on his wheel and attacking me once I give him a better home?

I’m late to this video lol, but would a 30 gallon be acceptable for a dwarf? I know it’s not IDEAL, but that’s the largest me and my family can really go.

I have a dwaf hamster and she has a cage from Walmart and it’s big enough for her but I don’t think my mom will let me but she seems fine but idk think my mom will let me buy a tank I’ll ask her to get a big one but idk my hamsters seems fine in her cage it’s big

What about a 110qt bin for a Syrian (medium Syrian) also I can fit an 11inch wheel and 4toys I'm planning on expanding it in the future but I can't afford it right now because we are trying to get our house back together after hurricane Harvey but I will expand it asap maybe 3-4months

I have a question, I have two dwarf hamsters but my parents won't let me upgrade to a 40 gallon as my birthday present. So is it ok if I keep them in there until around Christmas or if they do end up getting it for me for my birthday is August ok?

Sammyglitz101 ... I can't say, I don't know what type dwarfs or the size of the tank they are in currently. But you can always get one DIY bin for one of them for the time being. Xo

Georgie Kelly ... take the length x width and if its at least 450 than yes! But I believe zoo zones are good sizes we don't have them here in the states but I think they are pretty good! Check the inches!

Littlelotti's Hartland Joy Georgina does some of her demonstrations on those zoo zone two large cage they are enormous cages, she also has a detolf in her room, you should check her out...

My gerbils have been in the 20 long for a few years and now the changed the minimum I feel bad but at the same time they have no stress and it seems fine, I am looking into making a diy tank topper so they can have additional space!

MyLilZoo1017 I would def get them into a 40breeder asap. For their happiness 2 gerbils should be in a 40. I wouldn’t even waste time or money on a topper. Just upgrade them :) xo thanks!

Could a 20 gallon long tank work as a temporary cage for a Syrian hamster ? Because I just bought a 20 gallon long tank thinking that would be fine for a Syrian hamster until I saw this video

i got my Syrian yesterday thinking a 10-gallon would be enough... clearly I was COMPLETELY wrong. now i am worried about her because she has no where NEAR enough room to live in. by the end of this week I will have a 40 gallon cage for her!!!

ashleyornah oh yes def get her in a 40 soon :) so she can have plenty of room for hides, toys, to in and a 8,5 in wheel :)

so I just do NOT have the room for the biggest cage. my hamster is currently in one of those sad plastic bins :( would it be awful if I could only have enough room for the middle one?

wildchild422 .... is it a plastic bin? Or a 20 gallon? The 20 gallon is fine! But the tiny hamster cages I showed aren't good at all. But it's ok you can get the plastic bins very cheap, and the are plenty big enough! And they are about $10 at Walmart :)

I mean she's in one of those awful tiny plastic hamster cages currently :( I was going to get her a 20 gallon tank but now those aren't good enough either......

wildchild422 .... but just like I said in my video! It's better than nothing! Its worth it even if that's all you can do it's ok! But a plastic bin cage works well too and they are big enough and very cheap! I just got one from Walmart for $10 and it's huge! They work fine!
