Most shippers are fully aware of the differences in a show of affection between men in Korean and what's standard in the western world. SKZ are full of examples of this with the other members. You can have a different opinion without assuming someone else's opinion is based on ignorance. I do agree with what you said about the strength of friendship and that all that matters is that they are happy.

i think when people don't have or see such affectionate friendships in their lives, it's hard for them to interpret it differently than what they experience themselves. and when they don't have real-life experience, they form views based on what they see in media - and we all know how movies and tv shows lean toward portraying romantic relationships and don't pay a lot of mind to friendships. it's just basic human psychology.

I'm working on my Masters in MHC and have a bachelors in psychology and gender and sexuality studies 😂 It does make me sad that those people haven't experienced it or have been taught through a narrow lens, but I still don't agree with shipping due to the fact that it imposes a false relationship onto real people and then many end up making assumptions or trying to psychoanalyze behaviors around them.

we have to remember where the whole shipping phenomenon comes from - it's projecting people's desire to meet their "one and only". and since a huge portion of k-pop fans are young girls, it's understandable they lean toward romantic interpretation. not many people have super affectionate friendships, the media usually only portray romantic relationships in such an affectionate way, and this whole concept that you need to find your love to be happy, so the associations form accordingly (that's why friendships and platonic soulmates are so underrated). also, there is a personal experience that comes with it. friendships in western countries are not as "touchy" most of the time. but their romantic relationships are. I'll give you an example: I also had a close friend in my university years and everyone thought we were a couple (which I was fine with and didn't care what anyone thought). and then my friend came out as a lesbian and confessed to me. again, I wouldn't apply my experience to others because I like to think logically. but I can see how some people would relate their own experiences to others. psychological reasons aside, I simply don't like when people get invested in someone's private relationships too much. that's why hard shipping without limits is a no for me (it's ok if it's light-hearted and not serious) but i also understand why shipping is a thing and that it's not going away.
