Hand crank tobacco shredder... WONDERFUL!

I got a hand cranked tobacco shredder today. It is one of the items
High Desert Tobacco will be selling too. Take a look, www.highdeserttobacco.com/
It looks like half of a pasta machine except that the cutter wheels are
serrated to pull the leaf through the cutters.

I was gifted one of these machines recently, and found it works great. During one of the trial runs I was doing, I had a slight jam and back cranked the handle to clear it, only to find that what I thought was a blind rivet securing the handle to the machine, was actually a bolt. It's an easy enough fix if I wanted to lock it back in place, a spot of superglue on the threads would do it, but the fact that it was a bolt works out perfectly for me as I can now replace the original bolt with a HTS one and use it as a spindle to motorise the unit as I have a shi... er... cart load of leaves to shred already, and more maturing every day. One other thing I would mention about the unit, is that the steel combs for clearing the cutting blades are not set as close as they could be, even at full adjustment, so it's going to be a file job to increase the adjustment distance I have, to wide a gap was what caused the jam in the first place. Do you wash or do some cleaning on the leaves before shredding? Some leaves have feathers, dirt/dust on them

i bought this one, and its fine for a few leaves, but the handle bends way too easy, it gets stuck all the time, cutting blades are not clean, even adjusted the metal things that should clear it, as tight as possible. Worthless thing for me. After i watched a vid from a guy using a pasta cutter, i immediatly ordered one. I give it a shot with that, and it has a higher capacity.

You should shred 3 times I make my own cigarettes with this machine and it looks the same cut as store’s cigarettes have

Looks a bit coarse for hand rolling. What happens if you put it through twice?

I never tried running it through more than once. as for rolling, it did OK for me.

It makes a way finer cut, i do that all the time, but im not enthousiastic about this thing.

Yes you can, it's a little chunky but perfectly smokable, on the plus side it's just about perfect for using with the cigarette machines you get.

Update on my last comment: Now that I've been using the shredder for a while I've discovered that the dryer the leaf is the finer it seems to shred it, in fact if the leaf is too dry it comes out almost like snuff.

Guys, you can buy tobacco shredders that cut different sizes of strand as well as more expensive ones that have adjustable blades. This one is set more for pipe tobacco, though would work for cigarette tube injectors too. For hand rolling shag you want something more like a 1mm shredder.

Natives and indigenous people were healthy af and they smoked natural tobacco, of course their diets were also on point which is really important
