You could cut your first embroidery from the fabric and applique it to another fabric, if the puckering bothers you a lot.

Yes, but you’d have to be really careful about it! Unless you are fully embroidering the section on to the new fabric over the raw edge, I’d personally recommend attaching a facing after cutting it and before transferring it. I’ve created a couple hand-embroidered patches this way and it’s been successful for me - but it did require a lot of care! (Also if anyone wants to message me on insta I’d be more than happy to show folks the couple progress pix I got of that process if they are interested!)

This is a really nice intro video to embroidery in cosplay and I am going to be rewatching it a bit. Some of the traditional embroidery videos I have watched don't seem to reach the scope of why I am looking into embroidery. They were a little too cut and dry. Seeing some examples really put in perspective what can be achieved and made me feel like what I want can actually be achieved (If I work hard enough for it to actually look good). Also seeing the results of more advanced techniques motivated me to learn the basics so I can up my cosplay game. I did have a few questions. First, how do I work on a large embroider design that won't all fit in my hoop? Like your hylian cape in the background with the designs that span nearly all of the fabric. Do I just move the hoop as I go or will that ruin my previous satin stitches? Second, is it a good idea to embroider a design on the fabric before cutting the pattern piece out? Specifically I have a design going over a shoulder and that pattern piece would be really hard to put in a hoop already cut out. I could fit a small hoop in the spot but then I run into my first question.

Hey thanks for the thoughtful comment I appreciate it! In regards to your questions it really depends on the project and more specific the type of fabric. For the Hylian hood I was able to take a small hoop and move it around and work on the pieces section by section because the fabric and floss were able to be ironed out and was in that way very forgiving. However if you are working with fabric or floss that cannot be ironed out like that, you either need to invest in a frame or hone your skills enough to work without a hoop. For example right now I am creating a large goldwork piece and because the "floss" is metal and it's so large I have it on quite a large wood frame. It's also not on the final fabric but will be stitched down on to it by hand after so as not to ruin the delicate piecework I have done on my fabric. It's a little convoluted to try to explain but here is an image that includes the frame I'm using so you can see what you might need to look for: instagram.com/p/CZN1H0eLttM/ and here is an image of my delicate fabric situation: instagram.com/p/CKAQu03r6UK/ . I hope seeing these can help you judge your own projects a little better. As far as a pattern piece going over the shoulder I think it can be done both ways. For the Hylian Hood which is also patterned going over the shoulder as you can see here: instagram.com/p/B9Cg12qH8YX/ I cut my pattern pieces out, finished the edges (with nail polish but you can use fray check or surging or whatever) so they wouldn't fray and then used a smaller hoop to embroider. It was challenging but it worked. However depending on your project and things like your fabric, floss, and skill level, it may be a good idea to mark the edges of your pattern pieces, cut a huge allowance for a larger hoop, embroider it one go, and then cut out the piece after it's been embroidered. I hope I got all of your questions and I hope this helps! Feel free to follow up if you need to and good luck with your projects!

@@telekineticManiac Thank you so much for your insight. I now have a better idea of how I should proceed. I love your close up project pictures on your Instagram. They are great inspiration as well as informative. That goldworking looks tough but beautiful.
