Get a jack .they have heaps of character .Mine comes out of the water and rips fish out of your fingers.I use a cast net catch enough for a month or two,put them on a backing tray and then freeze them.

That's a magnificent Aquarium and what I consider the Iconic National Fish of Australia (Barramundi)! Anthony is HECTIC! This is so interesting! Just a bit of a warning about adding 'Furniture' to your Aquarium? Remember that you lose water volume and this can influence your carrying capacity and the amounts of medication/additives. Try to use synthetic rocks and stuff from a reputable pet shop. Natural rocks can leach toxins, introduce parasites and fungi and the added weight can cause your tank to fail. Consider breeding your own feeder fish due to parasitic load. I find a long plastic hose to be useful as a kind of vacuum cleaner when you do a water change or want to remove a huge lump of shyte. If you've ever stolen petrol then it's pretty much the same method! I have a few snakes in terrariums. Going to have to investigate this Tick-Tock now. Have a great day, Brooksy! Looking toward to seeing Anthony more often! Ya LEGEND!

Getting pet Murray Cods was one of the best things i did. You'll be surprised how smart and conscious they are . Gave me a new perspective on fishing, understanding that a species of fish are not all the same. They are all individual.

tie a rock/sinker to the timber. Helps it stay on the bottom whilst it becomes waterlogged. Water may also be cloudy as there is to much sunlight hitting it. Had that happen to my tank. Had to move it to a location where no direct sunlight hit it and cleared it up.

I wouldn't add any more fish till the aquarium has more time to cycle. The more filtration the better. Have the same canister filter on 5 foot tank, issues, added fx4 and no problem. Great hobby and 1 tank could just be the start.

If you're gonna have some big fish in there, you may want to get a small 15 or 20 gallon to hold the feeders in, that will cut down trips to buy them! But 100 at a time! It seems like more work with 2 tanks, but in reality its gonna make things a lot easier!

Barra for sure mate, for entertainment and to watch how quickly they grow. Also to just study their mannerism and traits. It is amazing to watch them tailing when they are small and feeding. I used to get them at around 50 mm and go to small freshwater creeks with scoop nets as in fish tank nets and catch tiny little shrimp and to watch them approach , tailing and the way they use their pectoral fins and tail fin only to slowly home in on the little shrimp, then bang to watch the implosion feeding is awesome. You can always add the Jack later. Peacock Bass are a stunning looking fish , however it is a form of cyclid which is the same family of fish as the noxious Tilapia. So when the Barra gets to big for the 6 foot tank (and it will) you can let it go. The Jack will never out grow that tank. The Peacock Bass may not either, however the Peacock does have the potential to get to the size that it may become uncomfortable in the tank. If it does, and you decide it no longer is fair on the Peacock Bass to keep him in there, what will you do with it. You can not let it go into the waterways as it is not native to Australian waterways. People think well it is only one fish, however who knows what may happen in nature, look what happened with the Tilapia and that started up here outside of Cairns. Now Tilapia are absolutely everywhere, whose to say a Tilapia and a Peacock Bass may not cross breed. Both Cyclids, both mouth brewders , both highly aggressive and eat anything basically. Anyway mate just a few things to think about for down the track should you wish to add more fish to the tank etc. Take care mate and fish are an awesome way to stay entertained while in lockdown,ha ha ha ha. Regards Dave.

Hi mate, I used to have a 6 foot long x 2 foot wide x 2 foot high x 12 mm thick glass tank. I had 1 x BARRA and 1 x JACK. Spent many many hours just staring at them. Amazingly stress relieving. I used to go to freshwater creeks and find nice water submerged pieces of timber to use to make the tank look very natural and create natural ambush type cover points for the Barra and Jack to sit under. Throw in $20 - $30of feeder goldfish and let the fun begin. Feeder goldfish are like a copperish colour, not orange like normal gold fish. I also used an under gravel filter hooked up to one powerhead canister filter. This draws all of the water , fish poo etc through the gravel and gets trapped under the gravel tray. The water gets crystal clear very quickly, i also ran a second powerhead canister filter with different stages of sponges, charcoal and spikey balls that special bacteria grows on to help kill bad stuff. I also used to use little bits of coral and or sodium bicarbonate to help keep the water PH LEVELS CORRECT. I hope some of this is helpful. I forgot to say, i used to get my white crystal type creek sand for the tank from a freshwater creek or dam normally from where you got the tree stumps. Black gravel looks good but is a little harder to tell when cleaning is required. I used to use a vacuum tube connected to a hose , turn hose on then off so it begins to suck, go through the tank sucking the sand up partially into the tube and this also helps clean the poo etc out, also causes the white creek sand to rotate etc and it looks very clean and white again. Once again hope this helps mate. I had this set up until my Barra was an extremely fat 75 cm's long and i let it go. Regards Dave.

Hey mate with the water changes - check the prime bottle but I’m pretty sure you are supposed to add prime to water in a separate bucket before adding it to the tank. The way you are doing it still exposes the fish to chlorine before the prime can get rid of it.

That's straight up sick brah. Makes me want a weapon fish. Props on your decision to set it up. Definitely should be chucking some frenchies (frogs) in there or see if he'll smash some lizards or some little crabs. First time I've commented, but I've been following your Chanel for at least a year & you're a mad dog bro. If you're keen to come out of my 28ft boat around Perth later in the year, I'd be happy to take you out with the boys. Smashing dhuies over 20kegs, the fads out the back of rottnest island are already holding shitloads of mahi mahi & there's some solid Spanish lurkin about & some big pinkies like usual, was a big pinkie spawn in Cockburn sound this yr (happens like every 10yrs) So there's some horses about. Ladtly If you went n smashed decent GT's/Mundie on a solid fly rod with a heap of braid backing, I bet it'd draw a lot of new viewers to your channel n help you out, cos who does that loose sh*t? Pce 🤙

nice setup Brooksy, Barra are awesome pets, just dont feed too many goldfish to it mate, they arent actually that good a food for them and goldfish also occasionally have some weird bacteria depending on where you get them, one in particular grows under their scales and if eaten by a big predator like your Mundi is almost certainly going to be FATAL!!!. Pellets and native bait fish are the way to go mate, try to get your bait fish from as cleaner water as possible, look forward to future Mundi feeding time vids, keep up the good work, Bloody Legend

You should go out and catch the fish! Get a cast net, they're relatively inexpensive, and catch some babies! I'm a fan of people keeping native species to wherever they are in the world. Who knows, you might catch some baby Bluefin Trevally or a baby GT! If you want aggressive, then yeah, catch some baby Bara's. I imagine those are pretty darn aggressive when fed, fun to watch.

Nice tank mate. I had a small pond, got a few Japanese Koi, but not really knowing what I was doing I had some major filtration issues and very nearly lost all of them. I did a heap of research and decided I needed to start over from scratch. The Missus 'agreed' - and spun out when it ended up being BIIIIG! 3m x 2m x 1.8m deep, with nearly 1000ltrs of filtration chambers lol. That was a few years ago now and I've learnt a hell of a lot since then - and these are principles that are still really relevant to your tank. Anyway, water quality is what you've got to get up to speed with - basically captive fish are living in a toilet, so it can go really bad really quickly. If you've not got it already, get an API Master Test Kit, and test daily - certainly for the first month. Everything is brand new in there and it'll take a while for the beneficial bacteria to build up and populate the biological part of the filter - the quick start stuff helps, but it'll take a few weeks for the filter to mature and start working properly. Cloudy water/ algae blooms/ water quality issues are really common, often referred to as 'new tank syndrome'. Build your stock of fish up slowly - it's hard cos your frothing to get them all in - but remember that every new fish will put more shit (literally) in the water and the biological filter won't be able to keep up and you'll get ammonia or nitrate spikes that can kill them all overnight. Go easy on feeding for a while too - again - more food equals more shit, and more work for the beneficial bacteria. When you clean your filter, always do it in a bucket of tank water - never use straight tap water as the chlorine in it will nuke all your good bacteria and you'll be back to square one with really bummed out fish. The set up will mature in time and you'll only test weekly or so. There's probably more stuff I've forgotten to say now, but what I've said should help for now. Good luck with it brah!

@@JonnyBrooksFishing yup, that's how new fish keepers roll haha. I was exactly the same - had a few goldies in a little pond with a tiny filter, all was good. Then I slung four kilo sized koi in there - woke up in the next morning to black water and really bad fish gasping on the surface. Massive learning curve, but it's actually pretty straight forward once you get going with it. Filtration is sooo important. I'm sure the shop guys are all over it, but that filter may max out if you put too many fish in - how many are you planning? If it does start to struggle and you keep getting ammonia issues, then you'll either need a bigger one, or just get a second filter and run it in series with the existing one.
@LG-yo6mj
@LG-yo6mj 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, get a KH Test Kit too - it measures the carbon hardness of the water, which in a nutshell, will give you an indication of the health of your beneficial bacteria in the filter. Low KH means unhappy bacteria, which means unhappy filter, but you can make them all happy again with a bit of sodium bicarb powder (just add a couple of table spoons each day until the levels are right - there'll be a list of 'levels' in the kit)
