Great video, thanks for documenting the process in so much detail. I wanted to ask about the stitching to the sole - the thread looks like it will get damaged as the tread wears away. Does this not compromise the strength of the goodyear welt?
@ortodoux
@ortodoux 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Thanks so much for watching. From the time of wearing the shoes, the threads in some parts will wear out, this will not be a problem because the soles are stitch and also glued, besides that the thread knot are also between the layers, the sole will not breakdown. This method has also been used by shoemakers for a long time.

Thank you very much Sir. We use different glue for every step. For the upper, the sole or the outsole?
@Dasplitz
@Dasplitz 2 жыл бұрын
@@ortodoux I am interested in finding a glue with "low" density. I am currently using Den Braven glue, which has this honey-type density, and I am having a hard time applying evenly before it dries out! I am mostly making bags and pouches, so I glue layers of leather together. Not skilled enough to start making shoes. Any chance you got a glue suggestion for me? Many thanks.

Thanks for posting. I’m learning how to resole shoes and this video was very helpful. During the outsole stitch-down process, how are you able to make the holes by hand. Will a good stitching awl penetrate the upper, midsole, and the thick vibram outsole? Or do you use another tool to make the holes for stitching?
@ortodoux
@ortodoux 2 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! Yes we only use traditional craftsman tool (needle) to make hole and then stitching. Yes, a good stitching awl on the market will penetrate from upper to outsole. The Vibram Montagna 1100 is not too hard, or you can watch the details at 06.42 on the video. Have a good day
@EdAb
@EdAb Жыл бұрын
No machines for you!!! I really wish I could have seen ever single step of the build, even if the video had taken two hours. Especially the stitching through the outsole. How the heck were you able to pierce the two midsole layers, as well as the rubber outsole by hand??? You must be able to punch through a car door! Amazing, thank you!
@ortodoux
@ortodoux Жыл бұрын
punch thtrough a car door?! sure! hahaha kidding. thank you for such kind words, so flattered and honored. we will consider creating a full version per session for each build step. have a blast day!

Amazing boots!! Beautiful! The thread going over the treads will be in contact with the ground and wear through on the first hike. This is obvious and so therefore a decision has been made to do it. I'm curious about how/why that is the choice?
