Thanks for taking the time to help me with your videos. I've watched many here and pick up somethings from each. You helped me solve my trouble of the needle penetrating the thread as it passes through the hole. I couldn't figure how the thread and needle were getting tangled as they exited the hole. Piercing the other thread would do it. Only a couple of hundred little things more to learn. I keep improving thanks to you.

The way I learned, you pull your first needle through, then pull it to one of the ends of the diamond cut and push your other needle through the other side of the diamond where there's no thread. But this way seems like it would be easier.

Leaving the loop on the far side was something I did not know or remember from 6th grade. I see you did not wax the thread. Is that because it was polyester? Cheers from across the Pacific.
@cheaneysaddles
@cheaneysaddles 7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I use waxed thread. I used to make my own flaxed hand sewing thread and add beeswax to it. This polyester thread is pretty slick I just did not feel the need to wax it. I might try waxing the polyester thread just to try it out sometime. Cheers from Gainesville Texas... Bruce

Do you wet the leather and mould the knife in the sheath ? Just curious , I'm going to make my first one soon and have never done any leather work before . I find it very interesting .
@cheaneysaddles

Yes you can wet the knife sheath and form it to fit the knife. If it is a carbon steel knife you can put it in a plastic bag to prevent rusting.

I have been hand stitching with some 4 oz waxed poly thread from Tandy. It gums up terrible and looks bad. It also seems to be pulling up a lot of the stain or dye color from my project. Step one I use my divider. Step 2: Grover Step 3: punch wholes Step 4: stitch. Can you help or make suggestions.? Is my thread to heavy.? Should it not be waxed.? Thank You Bruce. Yet again another great video on a great project.
@cheaneysaddles

I think you thread is a little bit heavy. You can take a cloth and stretch the thread and rub the excess wax off and that might help you.

Until now I have been sewing with a speedy awl, and was always dissatisfied that one side of the stitch was nice and the other a little ugly. I'm going to switch to this method for certain! One question, if you would be so kind as to answer: at the end, what is the beat way to knot your stitch? Thanks!
@cheaneysaddles

Thanks a lot. I done it. It looks ok, but I don't know if it is right. I saw someone used lighter to burn the ends of the thread, but when I did the same way, the leather was burned and left a black spot. I don't think a lighter is a good tool to eliminate the ends of the thread.

Many times the back of my item hand sewn doesn't look as nice as the front. Think I might need to get a diamond awl and use it instead of my Tandy diamond punch. I've stopped using the cutting stitch groover because it's not necessary to remove the material. Need to also get one of those dividers or would a creaser work to set the stitch groove? Thanks for another great video.

Hello Bruce thanks for the video agein. I have a question. Seems like you don't use a stiching chisel to make holes for stiching, is there any reson? If you do, i wanted to know if you sugest any brand that you like best, becouse i'm looking to buy one and i just can't decid wich one to buy. As long there too much of them on market. If you could plese do me this favor.
