"Like loading a spell bullet into your gun" That is the simplest explanation that makes the most sense. Why have I never heard this before?!
@mf-h3659
@mf-h3659 4 жыл бұрын
because its a gun with the potential to gain 10 barrels, and one of the barrels can fire infinite bullets, and the other barrels can only only fit certain size bullets in, and you load the bullet whenever you want in the moment, not at the moment you 'prepare spells', depending on how many times youve already used that barrel (?????????????????) i like it in spirit but its a vastly incomplete picture!

My dm explained to one of our new players a bit different, for example cantrips are basically tattoos you have so that's why you can always cast, and preparing its a meditation needed, if you don't have time to meditate you don't prepare spells

"Spellcasting Basics (Part 2): Components" please!
@IceFireSam
@IceFireSam 5 жыл бұрын
Components are really simple. They would only take a part of a video, not a whole video. For the most part, you don't need to worry about them too much. A Component Pouch or an Arcane Focus either provides them automatically or substitutes them. The only ones you need to worry about are the components with a price tag. With some, the spell consumes them. With others, the spell doesn't consume them. The spell will say which components are consumed. If the spell doesn't say, then they're not consumed.
@CMLT.
@CMLT. 5 жыл бұрын
Does sorcerer with innate magical abilities also need consumable components to cast?
@Mrhofer
@Mrhofer 5 жыл бұрын
@@IceFireSam The big thing that could use clarification is casting when your hands are full. Somatic and Material components are a nightmare to explain. It more so comes up when someone is multiclassing, but Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters suffer from this as well. Also, say a cleric is holding a mace and shield. They can cast a spell that requires both material and somatic components because the shield meets the material components and the shield hand can do the somatic. However, if a spell requires only somatic components, the cleric can not cast it without doffing the shield or stowing/dropping the mace, as a spell with somatic components and no material components must be performed with an empty hand.
@Mrhofer
@Mrhofer 5 жыл бұрын
@@CMLT. If the spell requires it in the material components, then yes. Sorcerers being gifted with "innate" magic has zero mechanical functionality.

For everyone wondering how Warlock spells work, let me sum it up easily. Whenever you level up, your spells level up with you, all the way to 5th level. If you cast a 1st spell that does 1d10 damage per spell level, it does the damage of a 5th level spell. You can also cast spells of 6th level or above, but those stay the same unless you choose to cast them at higher levels.

Would you please do a video on Cantrips and their bonus action ability. PLEASE!!!! there are many arguments online abut this and both of my groups disagree on the correct way to use a cantrip (with 1 action) as a bonus action along with your main action (examples: Attacking with a sword and casting firebolt) or casting dancing lights in the distance then casting magic missile. or a "Druid and Shillelagh as an example. To get the attack action after casting Shillelagh as a BA."

@@JM-db8ez When I consider the length of the episode and the fact that it is called basics, I would have included exactly what was included here and prioritized the other topics of spellcasting for a follow up. Components are easier to address alongside the topic of arcane focuses. This episode basically just focused on spell slots AKA the bookkeeping of spellcasting. @JM-oo5ko
@JM-oo5ko 5 жыл бұрын
Let me rephrase. You can cast up to 3 spells a round. Spells have different casting times such as an Action, a Bonus Action, 1 minute, 10 minutes, or your reaction. In one round you have the a thing called Action Economy. You get a free action which is something simple like drawing a weapon or dropping an item. You get a move which you can use to move your movement speed, drop prone, or stand up. An action which you can use to attack, dash, disengage, Dodge, help, cast a spell with a casting time of 1 action, hide, or perform some complicated thing which the DM decides only takes 1 action. Some things let you use a Bonus action such as a rogues cunning hands or spells like healing word, Misty step, or spiritual weapon. But if you use these spells, you can only cast another spell if it is a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action. Finally you can cast can use your reaction to cast spells with an action time of reaction such as counter spell, shield, or absorb elements.

my old dm use to have us have a long reast between sessions. that way i knew to spend all my spells depending on how much time we had left.

Can you all do a leveling up video? The chart for gaining more spells is kind of confusing in regards to what level spells you gain when and when you can begin to use them.

well... its a start. what about learning spells, casting requirements, components, scrolls vs spell books, spell focus items, what die rolls are made and why... oh the exhaustive list that wasn't touched. not to mention Warlocks!!! (which were only mentioned)

Ok, looking for some clarification.....If I cast a 1st level spell....as an action....can I also cast a cantrip when that cantrip spell states that it also takes an action....that would be 2 actions in 1 turn. Does the 1st spell count as an action, and the cantrip (action) can be cast as a bonus action??? Looking for some clarification. thanks!

If I could have any spell that I wanted, I would opt to have the ability to induce aneurysms in other people simply by focusing on them.

Was this one of their friends who did guest-spots? I don't remember seeing her in Critical role but I really like her presentation.
