Some things are only natural. This is one of them. How could we not have our own Shane Swenson join Jon in the Rouges' Gallery for a One on One about handicapping two-year-olds? Exactly, we couldn't so here he is. The Two-Year-Old Edge Man himself sits down with Jon to talk about how he handicaps two-year-old baby races, what he looks for, what he emphasizes and what he shies away from. We even get some nuggets from Jon himself and there is something in this show for everyone at every level. We apologize for the iffy WiFi connection, but it wasn't that bad, we don't know what caused it and it is well worth working through. You can find The Edge Man's book at Amazon here:
www.amazon.com/Handicapping-T...
Check out Shane's book and thank you for watching ‪@PastTheWireTV‬

Was a clocker back in the day 4 sports eye.remember them? Being the new kids on the block back then we shared the clockers booth with DRF. Caught so many good scores with 2 year old first time starters. I will not mention names here but there was DRF clocker who till this day was like the secretariat of clockers. He is long gone but was a master at spotting talent with babies. He was also a player if u get my drift. As an example I would clock a 2 year baby in 58.4 I would then turn to him and say what did u get him in? 101.4 handily. Need i say more.at the time I was the new guy and being from the streets of Brooklyn and queens I caught on right away and did not wanna ruin anyone's gig. So I just played dumb and never questioned this guy. I would see him at the track pounding horses with the sam machine. Got a million stories but I just wanted to say I really dont trust workouts with unrated 2 year olds making their debut.im sure its alot more legit today but again what I saw this clocker was unreal!!!! This guy was a diamond in the ruff. Even at times I would clock a baby with a fast work he would laugh .it ain't the time of the work I came to learn its HOW the baby worked !! Wish everyone good days at the track!@

Dramatic but it's not like that. This stuff is heavily regulated. Don't want yo scare people thinking info is fake. But DO beware certain outfits have private Traing strips. Learn who they are. I give a freebee...Boniface in MD, VA..nice story you tell but Contemporary Track ain't a Bing Crosby or Bob Hope movie. Serious violation to mistate times by Pro clocker(DRF)

That's exactly how it was back in the day with clockers a 48/2/5 was a 50 that was known as clocker math to go even one better back many years ago there was a guy in charge of all security who had a microwave in his car what do you think that microwave was for?the guy is deceased now but he was a lowlife rat and will leave it at that

Yes, you have to out-work people! Loved the show, I'm very curious about your book, and have just ordered it from Amazon, I too am very into my deep dives with pedigree, and I love to handicap and bet MSW races and Maiden tags too , so I know I will connect with the material in your book, I'm thinking we may have some of the same principals and approach towards our capping, I spend long hours in race review and bloodlines capping, and of course evaluating all the workouts prior to and after their first starts, I feel you could have mentioned how often we find big overlays in MSW races, both in Open Company and State Bred races

It’s Shane’s mic. Every time he turned his head to the right( to look at his monitor) he cuts out.

I bought the book it’s quite comprehensive about what you need to have/know but doesn’t specially tie reference to the source of the info. An example of the workthru of a typical race woulda been invaluable. Maybe he’ll add an appendix.

I'm down with the breeding aspect. So fun! Been to see many stallions in person and the thick sire book had been my bible!!

Thank you for the show Jon really appreciate it! I always take into account and read his articles on past the wire website! I found it very interesting about his take on Munning’s, I wonder if Jack Christopher was his best male off Munning’s & how will his babies do. Can 2Yo EdgeMan start doing Turfway park with there 2 year olds in the fall? Some nice babies have came from Turfway and translated to the dirt. Horse I’ve been very very high on since his start Encino and he transferred to the dirt with a bang first out ( I think this horse needs to be on watchlist going into this summer). I loved loved his pedigree and imo he was the most versatile horse going into the Kentucky Derby but he had to scratched due to a soft tissue strain.

Really good show Jon. Aside from the interesting 2yold handicapping topic, check out the bloodlines on the Dam's side for Sierra Lione and Forever Young. No wonder they are so fast.

My hard earned Value opinions on betting Babies. First, wait til they going at least 5 furlong. 2nd look for workouts like a Furlong per day for 30 days, no matter the time. So..5/12 4fur...5/17 5fur...5/23 4 fur ..5/ 28 5fur..6/4 5 fur...6/9 4 fur..6/12 3 fur. Race.....now, if in for any kind of tag this next pattern is deadly. I learned it 35 years ago and its$......5/17 36..3fur.5/22 4 fur 47...5/28 5fur 1:03...6/ 5 ..6fur1:16...6/10. 5fur 1:04. They found out it's a fast horse on 5/22 and5/28. They wanna sneak it in for a tag so they go slow Ling works b cuz most people are only gonna see 1:04 and beg off. Very lucrative but you got to wait for it. Great show. Valuable tidbits. 2bies can make $ for a sharp ballsy player.
