This hands-on science video explains Einstein’s light-bending concept using nothing more than a wine glass and an LED light representing a star.
Total solar eclipses have given astronomers the opportunity to view the stars surrounding the sun in a whole new light (pun intended). Einstein predicted that light should be bent by gravity. Sir Arthur Eddington lead an expedition to photograph the 1919 total eclipse of the sun. The photographs revealed stars whose light had passed near the sun. Their positions showed that the light had been bent exactly as Einstein had predicted. The experiment was repeated in 1922 with another eclipse, and again confirmed the prediction.

Amazon used to sell a black hole plastic lens. It's shape is very similar to the bottom of a wine glass as you have demonstrated. However the stem part rises almost to a point. And the bottom is flat so it's a bit more accurate. I can no longer find it for sale. It's amazing to me how few people on KZfaq who talk about black hole lensing seem to have the slightest clue about this simple optical version. They seem to imply it's some kind of incomprehensible effect that cannot be demonstrated without an actual black hole. What you have shown is how BH lensing is closely imitated by a very familiar household object! I wish your video was more widely known.

So a prism redirects a light. Where is gravity? I bet this guy can tell some great stories. He knows how to use his voice.

he literally said that he is unable to recreate the bend himself. Were you entranced by his voice that you missed the words? The way in which light bends can be, and is, calculated and it has for a long time. Similar to gravity, we can't imitate gravity on earth (that I know of) but we can make a wicked cool experiment and it looks just how our earth and moon orbit the sun. The stretchy fabric and a weight that pulls it down in the centre. Throw a ball across the concavity of the fabric and then throw a smaller ball. The smaller ball will orbit the bigger ball while the bigger ball orbits the weight at the centre. Not exactly how gravity works but damn close

As an alternative interpretation, this guy just showed either than the bottom of the wine glass is a black hole, or that the effect of the black hole or a body is to lens light through a change in refractive index of space. With a little bit of thought, a capable person can show that all the laws of refraction can be used to verify that the idea that light is refracted due to a change in refractive index of space is supported by the data. This is especially true when one considers that a photon has no mass. It takes some thought, but give it a shot and then decide for yourself which idea better supports the phenomenon that is demonstrated in this video.

0:35 most important sentence in the entire video i watched many youtube videos regarding this topic everybody said that they took the photo during the solar eclipse and the other one at night on the same day , thanks for clearing that up for me

Am I missing something? This seems incorrect. It looks more like light reflecting off an object than gravity bending it. How do you even come up with that?

Nice video. New finding in 2010 you don't know before, Einstein's proving method (EPM) for hypothesis light-bending (deflection of light by the Sun) is unsientific and deeply wrong. It seems Einstein ignored refraction of light:ie.astronomical refraction and terrestrial refraction. That's why Einstein never received a Nobel Prize for relativity.(The Book: Eclipse 1919 and the General Relativity theory, Amazon). This finding in accordance with L.Essen's view in 1988: "Einstein's use of a thought experiment, together with his ignorance of experimental techniques, gave a result which fooled himself and generations of scientists." (Louis Essen,1988). All the experiments in relation with general relativity need to be re-examined. Nonononononoononono. No.i Dont agree. Light is massless. So its not gravity bound. Its not bending due to gravity.it has no mass. It is slowed down from almost vacuum entering liquid superfluid superconductor helium-4 and refracted from the 2 different mediums. How can smtg without mass be gravity bound? Come on Einstein i had hopes in you 😁 common sense. Well common between me n my other personalities. 😁🤣🤣🤣 The quran says the planets are swimming in orbit. So it must be a form of liquid. Maybe helium-4. The quran says about lawhunmahfuz tablet stored in red rubbies data illusionary life. So it must be where the simulation is stored outside spacetime n are not accesible by any angels or demons or creation that are within the elements made of hydrogen or derived from hydrogen. or within spacetime jitters. N the spin or jitters of each atoms or cells may be the reason y we could never stabilize or propegate our own universe or reach absolute zero because all elements In periodic table or atoms have a spin myself included. At least inside the simulation. So we cant make our own universe at LHC n compete with god.not possible no matter how extravagant or bazaar the opening ceremony cult is.thats not the point. The point is u need an infinite amount of energy to stabilize that universe or spacetime once its already created or the god particle is created.it has to be sustained. .. N only 1 entity has that. God. That means if u are a jin made of smokeless fire or plasma or an element u have a range a speed a limit. Everything within the elements periodic table have a structure and range and limit. So any element cant be god. It has to be elementless.or atomless. Or rangeless.sorry satan not today.

How do we know gravity is bending it, but not happening from some entering or exiting some invisible plasmic medium in outer space?

Light is instantaneous at the speed of light... and has no weight and can not be bent... any lensing effect is due to the atmosphere and not due to gravity and still light has no weight and can not be bent. Einstein was wrong.

I don't think it's gravity but charged particles that cause light to refract around stars. There does not seem to be any real evidence that gravity bends light, but there is much evidence of refraction when light enters a new medium.

Yessss !! Light bends when after going through a different medium in density. I was giving it a lot of thought but light is an electromagnetic radiation and it obeying this space time is wired for me.

although the light was bent around the sun, it wasnt the gravity , light beams are attracted like two paralell torch beams, the double slit experiment proves that.

the speed of light never changes, gravity changes the relative time, making it seem like light moved slower

@@stiaankruger2699 im not saying that light IS moving slower, Im saying that due to the difference in rate of time (caused by the gravity of the particles that make up the medium) it merely LOOKS like light is slowing down, because as we know, light has a longer travel time in denser mediums

The light is not being bent by gravity or curved space time, its being bent by matter (glass in this case) , similar to when you see straw in a cup of water that looks like its cut in half. The real question is how are we 100% sure that gravity has no effect on its all bending of space time. If water and glass can change direction of the light, why can't gravity as well. I know light photons have no mass. But are we 100% sure?

And the wine glass is a completely irrelevant hypothesis on bending light ..he is just showing how photons are manipulated when light shines through the bottom of a glass due to its dense but transparent shape...Also Einstein wouldn't of been happy you tested if theory in such a way 😉

If the fabric of space is bent duty gravity, light that travels through space has got to travel through the curved space no matter what. This guy's experiment hasn't got anything to do with science. He just wasted a wine glass.

In theory if a star can bend light that must meen gravity effects time slowing it slightly on the bend ...hear me out they say we can't go back in time but what if we could manipulate gravity some how in comprehensible now I know but if we was a type 3 civilisation and even now we know that when we look out to the stars we are looking into the past ,so if we could use gravity to bend back our light as it travels in a triangle shape back on its self so we could catch it up and meet it giving us a parallel earth 🌎 in the past....I have asperges don't laugh lol..
