I would love to believe this is a sort of "test run" to check interest in VF for a possible VF 6.

I've always heard praises about Virtua Fighter games but never really got a chance to play any of them since I'm relatively new to fighting games. Excited to try this one out!

The Virtua fighter engine was used for Shenmue 1&2’s combat. Just watching this makes me so excited to be able to play it!

Wall throwing and wall attacks in VF just feels more satisfying than juggling. I don't know why.

As an VF OG. Just glad it’s back in some form. Net code was decent for PS3/360 days. If it’s somewhat the same I think a lot of vets will be happy. Hopefully with it being free more newcomers can see how much of a chess match and engaging this game can be.

More people play, the higher chance of decent connections. Good idea dropping for PS Plus because downloads > sales in this situation

Great, I'll be playing it for sure. I love VF but I suck at it, but I really want to show my apreciation for the series and the hard work the devs put into it.

I had a way worse connection than I have now back then, and the game was on PS3 which didn't have the best online but I still didn't have issues playing with almost anyone. Even had matches with Japanese players and the game was more than playable. So I am confident that the game will be fine in that regard. Still I was gonna buy it day one anyone, since it's the only 3D fighter I really enjoyed playing online back then so handing it free on the PS is pretty good news.

I was worried when VF5 first came out and "it looked like Tekken". But it is the most pure fighting game still out there. And I can NOT wait for VF6.

Finally another 3D fighter on modern platforms. Nothing against Tekken, SoulCalibur(my favorite fighting game), and Dead or Alive, but it's nice to see another face re-enter the 3D ring. Shame there's no PC/Xbox port though.

I've only heard of the legacy of Virtua Fighter, and how veteran players still see VF5 as one of the most intricate games out on the scene. Seeing the game revitalized on the Dragon Engine (after having played Final Showdown at an arcade in Judgment), is really a jawdropping sight to me. The difference here is almost as if this version was actually Virtua Fighter 6. I assume SEGA is testing the waters with this, trying out how open people will be to Virtua Fighter in the current FGC, how active the playerbase will be, and if interest will be high enough to bring it back to EVO. I hope it goes well for them.

I can't shake the feeling some RGG staffer was fucking around with the virtua fighter assets they had and figured out how to drop a good chunk of it straight into the Dragon engine. Don't get me wrong, this is still a lot of work, but there had to be some significant savings somewhere to make this happen, right?

regarding "someone had remembered VF and wanted to do something techie with this...." perhaps they are gauging VF fans and FGC people and how they take it. They might also as well test the engine for a fighting game and yakuza. may be this is not and end, by a means for something different in the future. hope so. i played this game but man, for me it hard to swallow. hope they do VF6 with modern quality standards, and im preordering that thing!

I remember watching AVGN play Virtua Fighter 1 a long time ago. He only played for a minute but it was cool to see what the first 3D fighting game looked like. Years later I come to find this and shit it looks amazing. It's crazy how the first 3D fighting game evolved into this. I might seriously give it a try because it looks awesome

Really happy for this, not gonna lie, I waited years for that to happen! Thanks to anyone in SEGA who bothered with the idea and I hope that on EVO in august they announce full-fledged VF6. Btw, with this in mind, I hope that SEGA do the justice for the other cool old IPs, like Golden Axe, Phantasy Star (JRPG), Shining Force (TRPG), Skies of Arcadia (ffs, guys you need to finally make an UNCENSORED version for the west market!), etc. And with Atlus titles, I can't even start with something, so much stuff. But first and foremost, PLEASE make Digital Devil Saga 1-2 remaster/remake! What a game, man! Hidden gems like that always getting forgotten in the tides of time, it's make me sad and angry at the same time...

you know whats kind of sad about this is that if Sega had let Yu Suzuki use the dragon engine for Shenmu 3 it would have had way better combat.

Nice! Was really excited to watch this today! I never played any VF game, but I know how dear it is and how popular it was in the past. This came so out of nowhere and so many people are getting hyped about it, I'm just glad to be able to witness this. But this game just from the small gameplay and the trailer I saw, surpassed my expectations! I was thinking that it would be an interesting game that would have some older mechanics and probably some nice gameplay, but them I saw the trailer, and the trailer had so many well done animations and characters were doing so many attacks, even though I discovered later this game features only 3 buttons! How nuts! So I'm very interested in checking this out and the game being out on PS+ made this so much easier, because I already have an PS+ subscription, so I don't have to so more than download the game on June 1st, which is great! Edit: Live stream later today!! Amazing! \o/ definitely watching that!

I hope this gets a PC release on Steam, but if it doesn't I'll be happy continuing to enjoy Final Showdown via RPCS3. Those PS3 era visuals still look great today, and with RPCS3 you can render it as high resolution as your PC will allow.

I'll buy dlc with the hope that the support leads to them developing it further with rollback and VS CPU, maybe even new Characters.

VF4 and VF4 Evo on PS2 were amazing. Loved VF5 too on 360. Didn't get into Final Showdown though it

Can't wait! I had playstation consoles so I didn't get into VF until VF4 but I've loved it ever since. I was tearing through guys in VF5 at New York Comic Con a long time ago now. Happy to see this get some form of modern update. Sega barely makes games anymore.

I have always been absolutely terrible at 3D fighting games (not just Virtua Fighter). I grew up playing 2D fighters like Street Fighter 2 and Killer Instinct. I just can't wrap my head around the mechanics of 3D fighters. But hey, since this is free with PS+, I'll certainly give it another shot!

It's long overdue for a Virtua Fighter 6

This game is up my alley bc it's very intuitive and the combat feels very natural. It's not complicated but hard to master. No cheap moves, excessive juggling, or crazy combos or 100 moves to remember. Just simple punch kick guard and hold

I'm slightly surprised Max isn't more critical about the Delay-based netcode.
