Just treat it like the Seiko Tuna. There is the budget Tuna (Solar Tuna, Baby Tuna around $250) all the way up to the Spring Drive Tuna (around $5000). If Seiko can give us consumers a Seiko Tuna at multiple price range for Seiko Tuna lovers, Omega can do it as well for the SpeedMaster Lovers. Cheers!
@ieltsvisuals88612 жыл бұрын
why are you comparing these two. They are on different scales.
@DUDUsamaSG2 жыл бұрын
@@ieltsvisuals8861 As i have explained, for the Seiko Tuna, they are available at different price points so that the masses from the normies to the rich can 'buy in' to the Tuna ecosystem. Its all about the marketability of the Tuna brand. Omega/Swatch i believe wants to go this route and have a cheap speedy to compliment a pricey speedy so that more people can 'buy in' to the Speedmaster ecosystem. Who doesn't want an authentic Omega Speedmaster for cheap? Thus the crazy queues worldwide. As for Omega/Swatch, if they can sell an Omega branded Swatch watch for twice the actual cost of a similar model Swatch and profit greatly from it, why not? Ultimately its a win win for all parties. Consumers get a Speedmaster without breaking the bank. Omega/Swatch is able to sell a relatively cheap watch for almost twice its cost and they know it will sell like hotcakes.

I don’t think anyone is denying this was a massively important marketing move by Swatch/Omega. The point some are making is Omega / Speedmaster is an aspirational luxury item that you work hard to obtain and that you can be proud of to wear for a lifetime. This Moonswatch clearly is not that and shouldn’t be equated with a Speedmaster. Not taking anything away from the fun factor of this release.
@alt99252 жыл бұрын
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

Literally 2 years ago people were saying the tradition watch was dead because of smart watches. Now realise, that there are actual smart watches cheaper than this, and despite the fancy hardware inside nobody is queuing to buy them like how people are for this MoonSwatch. I don't think these devalue Omega at all, I think it's a great move making this icon a more accessible price range and get more people into watches. I know the quality is not going to be anywhere close to an actual Omega piece but it's all just a fun and affordable project that has made a huge impact.

Instead of a luxury item, that is unattainable to most, and still has waiting lists, purchase requirements, and other hoops for those who do have the disposable income, this is completely the opposite.....A non-pretentious, fun "homage" done in collaboration with the manufacturer themselves. I said on another channel but where Swatch screwed up was not taking rain checks or preorders. I think your right on a bunch of folks who are not major into watches came to get one and missed out. Not sure if they will come back where Swatch could have gotten the money, sold the watches, and could have knocked the flippers off their game. Maybe wrong but may have worked out better. I have a Speedy, I like the colors, I think this is fun for me and my kid to get a watches and not break the bank. Also can't see Omega doing something like this with their line so should be a win...just not sure how big.

I enjoyed your review however it isn't really a Speedmaster. So I don't own one of either, but whilst a Speedie is built to last, I really don't see it being the case in this instance. Whilst I will not begin to rag on the MoonSwatch, I do feel that a plastic watch with a quartz mov't is far from The Omega. Lucky the mother company is Swatch to enable it to happen. It will always be known as the MoonSwatch so I can't see it harming the Omega brand. Resin cases have been built to last viz Casio products over the decades, and this being 'bio-ceramic' well, it should last for a while - unless the colour comes off with use. The actual case has come straight from the blueprints of the Speedie so pretty true to form on that one. Finally. better people buy one of these than a 'smart watch'. Swatch saved the Swiss with Quartz, maybe they will do the same by distancing people from the Smart. BTW, I think Neptune is my fav colour. Cheers.

I think this is a great introduction to the Speedmaster (and even Omega) to many people, and also to getting a regular watch on people's wrists. Even though I liked watches for years (as in owning multiple/looking at them/buying, NOT spending hours on on them on the internet like I do now), I never heard of the Speedmaster/Moonwatch until WELL into adulthood. I certainly knew of Swatch though, and it was my first Swiss watch as a kid. We have a Swatch boutique by my house in the U.S., but they reportedly only had 45 per a couple of posters that were in line early. The line was easily 1,000+ people when I got there, so I just chatted with a few people, and took pics of the line. Apparently some "mall walker" people got in other entrances and lined up at the store ahead of the people in line overnight and wouldn't get out of line. People there most of the night didn't even get watches. I feel sorry for them that it was handled so poorly. I don't think there's any way they could have expected 1,000+ people, but we're in a 6 million+ population metroplex. 45 definitely was not sufficient. At least give us a few hundred. Hopefully they will boost up deliveries in the next couple weeks. It certainly should be easier to increase production on a plastic quartz watch coming off what is likely an automated line than a mechanical watch.

I like that Omega is taking this market approach. The brand and the lifestyle for a luxury product feels younger and more modern. I feel like its being more true to its nature and position in the luxury watch industry. Makes me more excited to collect more Omegas.

It would be something id buy my son who’s 10 to maybe spark an interest in watches other than a smart watch. Personally id go for the Bulova Moon watch as a cheaper alternative for myself. You can pick up one for around £300 in the Uk which is better value than a plastic copy of an Omega.

This is a good option for someone who is interested in the history of Space Travel. As we know, this Swatch pays homage to the 1969 moon landing. You are right, this might not be the product for a luxury watch collector.

It’s a great move. Anyone who takes issue with this has lost sight of the hobby. This is a fun release for those who own the real deal that want a fun summer watch or anyone who can’t afford the Omega who enjoy the style. Would you rather have people buying clone knockoffs? I’m going to get one for fun and enjoyment, and I don’t own an Omega. Two of my friends own Omega moon watches and they are excited to get theirs too. Elitist snobs are in the dark on this. This watch is doing what the luxury watch industry has needed for decades. Slapping some reality into it.
