If the monitor was made for an AC, it would be on the other side. I think this is still made primarily for solo-shooters. The Ursa Cine is the production workhorse.

Yes absolutely, if you afford it, the URSA Cinema is pretty much better in every way.

It will be interesting to see if BM will have an “ATEM mode” for the Pyxis which will allow the timecode in to act as a camera return. In theory that should be firmware routable with the OS already capable of doing the rest.

Now THAT would be a game changer. I would swap out all of my Blackmagic micros just for the sheer fact that it has a screen haha.

Also, I disagree that it's unlikely to see an L-mount camera with internal NDs in the future. Sony E-mount has an even shorter flange distance than L-mount and still they managed to not only put internal NDs in their cameras for many years, but even a combination of IBIS and eND with the Burano. So it's definitely possible and it will come for sure.

That would be great. This is based off an interview from a Blackmagic rep back when the BMCC6K was released and people were asking for internal NDs. He said it was unlikely to see one. You are right though, the flange distance for Sony E-Mount is 18mm while L-mount is 20mm. Hopefully we’ll see one soon.

The challenge is having enough lateral space (up or down or to the side) so you can move internal NDs away from the sensor. Not impossible (especially with eND) but the camera has to be wide enough or tall enough in relation to the mount so the filter can be moved.

2:28 The flange distance of the L-Mount is 20 mm compared to Sony E-Mount's 18mm. There are Sony Cameras with ND-Filters. So L-Mount Cameras with ND could be also made.

The difference is still mechanical vs electronic ND. Sony uses the latter, BMD has only developed the former. I’ll be putting the Mofage Poco with VND on this.

It’s true! There still hasn’t been any built-in ND technology for L-Mount lenses to my knowledge and research though. This information was based on a Blackmagic rep video I watched from the BMCC6K’s release last year. I hope you’re right though! That would be very cool.

What everyone keeps missing about NDs on the Pyxis is that the body isn’t big enough around the mount (w x h) to move a full 3:2 sized filter out of the way of the sensor when not in use. With the FX6, Sony solved the problem by building a flat front camera with the mount positioned asymmetrically so the filter can be stowed below. The Pyxis has a slightly tapered front and a central mount. Internal NDs have no place to go. Maybe we will see an L-mount option for the next standard Ursa which includes internal NDs? We will see.

Or a future version of the PYXIS will be built to support an ND. Similar to the BMPCC6K.

@@JohnCastillo One can hope! I was reading about a patent Lumix filed for an ND system that could fit inside their mirrorless bodies. Between sharing L-mount and BM Raw, fingers crossed they are good enough buds with BM to possibly share that future tech with them for future PYXIS cameras, if it ever sees the light of day at all.
