One of the questions that I get ALL of the time is how I practice my handwriting. I am definitely NOT a handwriting expert, but I did my best to walk you through my process in this video today. Enjoy!

This inspired me to take up my own handwriting practise again. I had forgotten how relaxing and meditative it can be after a hectic day and why it is worth taking the time to write (and hand letter) my bullet journal pages.

Your cursive is beautiful. It is a dying art. Cursive is my default handwriting now because it was drilled into me in school. I had teachers who wouldn't accept work unless it was in cursive and all their notes were in cursive as well. I'm thankful for keeping that skill now. Keep at it!

There are a few factors in improve handwriting . A resource I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Secret Smart Scripter (google it if you're interested) definately the most helpful resource that I've found. Look at the extraordinary information .

I'm also learning cursive since it's not in the curriculum anymore. Mom says they should add it back because kids can't read old documents. When we had to answer some questions about a share document, only 5 kids (including me.) knew how to read it. I know how read cursive since I grew up reading my mom's calligraphy handwriting.

+F San Jose hey, I'm just curious! Where are you from? Because here in Germany we all learned cursives in our second year in school and had to write in cursives throughout the whole elementary school. We also had to use fountain pens, so it is really strange for me to have adults talking about their first fountain pens. :) I never thought it would be different in other countries :)

I've been practicing brush lettering, and bought a bunch of black brush pens (most are fairly cheap, especially from JetPens.com). The one I found had the least ghosting in my Leuchtturm1917 was the Cocoiro one, and it also was nice and small, so perfect for the headers in my bullet journal. Definitely faster than trying to thicken up your letters later.

My first ever fountain pen (a number of years ago) was a black and rose gold TWSBI, and to this day is still my favorite!!!!!!!

Pro tip: 32lb printer paper is much cheaper than Rhodia, but still smooth and perfectly serviceable for practice with fountain pens. Best deal I've snagged for myself so far is 500 sheets of 11x17 on Amazon for about $8 (damaged packaging. Normal price is around $20 I think.) I have an irrational aversion to "wasting paper", so being able to print off decent quality practice sheets for around 2 cents a page killed that excuse for me. Thanks for the video, it's always great to see how others are learning Spencerian!

I'm going through a phase of wanting to improve my handwriting - again - and hunted through your video list for a second go round of this video. I just knew you had one... And on top of that, you love the Pilot Metropolitan, which was also my first fountain pen too. I started with the purple leopard - I now have 2 of those, one fine and one medium nib - and the white tiger, and branched out into the retro pop range too. Oh dear, I've become a little obsessed, haven't I?

I'm not sure if it was this video or not (i watched it a few days ago) but i do see your fountain pens laying there. Anyway, you had mentioned Goulet Pens having an "ink drop" I believe you called it, I've perused their site and didn't see anything like that listed. This is an excellent video and I thank you for it. What I want to know is: Will the practice of this type of handwriting have someone with awful handwriting (such as myself) improve everyday handwriting that has to be fast or will this only help for slow artful handwriting improvement? Hope this makes sense. Thank you again.

+BlushnBlue During practice, you'll definitely want to take it slow at first so that you can re-learn how to form your letters. Just a couple months in though, I started to speed it up, and can now write faster in cursive than I can with my "normal" handwriting. Hope that answers your question :)

I'm weirded out every time I fall upon a video about writing in cursive. I've only ever learned to write in cursive, and with fountain pains, writing in a "printed" version made teachers take grades off of your work. We were not allowed pens until around 7th-8th grade for the US. However, my cursive is really practical and definitely not as pretty as yours!

+Taylor Ray To answer your question, I've always been a bit fascinated with handwriting and mine was always "decent" but not awesome. I really started to focus on practice back in November and have grown by leaps and bounds since then :) I absolutely think that you could see a drastic improvement with dedicated practice :)

+Delaney Antkiewicz I'd say within a few days for sure. I also practiced a LOT in the beginning, roughly two pages a day practicing what I was learning in the books. Hope that helps!

+Amber Freshwater I use my Pilot Metropolitan or my TWSBI 580 fountain pens in there... I like the fine tips for practice, as they are less forgiving on errors :)

I record with my iPhone 6+, and I put it in a iPhone mount and then carefully wedge that between some heavy books on the top of my desk looking down. Very excited that I have ordered a tripod and swing arm that should be here before my next video so that I can set up a little bit quicker from now on ;)
