Handwriting Without Tears Cursive Flip Through Books 1 & 2

I'll flip through "Cursive Kickoff" and "Cursive Handwriting", the first two cursive books of Handwriting Without Tears. We used the blue Cursive Kickoff with my 2nd and 3rd grade kids this year, and they'll roll into the red Cursive Handwriting book next year.
A few things to note: The 1st 30 pages of book 1 are print review, and then cursive begins. So you are not paying for a FULL cursive book. However, each letter gets more practice, and on larger lines than book 2.
Book 2 has a similar pattern to most the pages, with practice writing a letter and then cursive copywork for both words and sentences. Book 2 begins with smaller lines and does not have any print...it's all cursive practice.
We don't own the teacher's manual, and this has been an almost 100% independent workbook for my two kids.
They are now able to read cursive at a basic level because they know what the letters look like and how they connect.

Thanks for taking us through these books. I think the cursive kickoff is going to be perfect for my 7 year old later in the year or even next year. And the cursive Handwriting is just what my 4th grader will need! I decided for my fourth grader to add building writers without tears along with cursive handwriting . Building writers should help with handwriting, punctuation and building stories. He hates to write so hopefully this will help?

O neat! I've not heard much about their building writer's program. I'd love to hear how he likes it! We've loosely used Brave Writer's Jot It Down in the littler years & Partnership writing around 3rd grade, as well as some Night Zookeeper just for fun here and there. My 4th grader really doesn't like to write much either, but he's been very willing to do daily copywork! Honestly, the #1 thing that he's willingly done as far as writing goes is to write several penpals. Maybe 1 or 2 a month. But it's been the BEST thing for him if you need something to try that's free! He'll continue learning cursive this year with HWT but I'm curious if he'll ever want to use it.

Did both of your kids do all of the print books before they started Cursive Kickoff? What age did you start cursive?

We started cursive when my 3rd grader was 9 and my 2nd grader was 7.5. My 2nd grader did do all the workbooks last year (kindergarten 1st and 2nd), while my 3rd grader did just the 1st and 2nd grade level. They didn’t start those till last year though and whizzed through the ones that were too easy. I don’t think it’s necessary to do the print if they already print well or use another handwriting curriculum. Some other curriculums even have kids learn cursive 1st, and print after that.
