I’m glad you’re helping them. It is sad that so many companies take advantage of the elderly. I personally don’t care if they are very well off or living on social security I always treat them as fairly as possible. One gentleman I fixed a toilet for was a WWII veteran and had been a POW held by the Japanese for almost 2 years before being released. He had a frame his son had made with all his medals pictures etc. He told me when he was released he weighed 94 pounds. When taken prisoner he weighed 145 pounds. This man seen more death and hell before the age of 23 than most of us would ever see in a lifetime. After I was done he asked what he owed. I shook his hand and said you paid for this 70 years ago this one is on me thank you for your service sir. He teared up and thanked me as well. Some of my best paying jobs are the free ones.

Same on the “extra time at the end” with my clients. There’s always a blown lightbulb / check an outlet / help move whatever heavy object, etc. I think of that as customer service time. As for scheduling jobs, no one ever seems to mention the unpacking of items and the cleanup after. Yesterday I assembled a day bed with a trundle bunk and 3 drawers. Took 4.5 hours-easily 45 minutes was unpacking and organizing the 5 flat pack boxes and then breaking down tons of cardboard and packaging afterwards. Nice lunch--just missing 3 Advil, a slim Jim and a pack of smokes. Lol

I wished I could locate a handyman who didn't mind doing a little easy work, in my area you're lucky to find anyone to work for money other than a contractor. I hung my own ceiling fans 18 yrs ago I've aged since then & have arthritis so it's diffcult to hold my arms over my head for any length of time or I'd attempt to replace them with new ones. You do excellent work & I do enjoy watching.

Great info! I've been a sales manager for 16+ years and one thing I teach my people is to "Be the guy". All of us want to have a "guy" for different things we need. When the cars broke down; "I gotta a guy", plumbing needs to be repaired; "I gotta a guy". If you want to attract and retain customers then your goal should be to become "the guy". What separates "the guy" from any other person you do business with is trust and rapport. You build that trust and rapport by going that extra mile and doing that extra stuff like you did :D

It's interesting how we take our history with us in to the Handyman trade. You were an electrician, and it's an important thing to know as a handy man. I started out of high school working for a kitchen remodeler, I've been, and still am a union glazier, (off most winters) when I morph in to handyman Ed. In my advertising I threw in "protective glass table tops", I can bang them out in no time from big sheets. Thinking I'd ad it as something to draw customers to the handy man thing. From ONE ad. I received 30 responses, that led to 20 customers. After making their top, they were so happy, they told a friend, and now I'm covered in glass dust. You never know what life will throw at you. Keep the videos coming, I'm learning so much from them. Peace. Ed

I'm right handed and my installer put the sink faucet control on the left. This worked out perfectly bc I noticed I held things in my right hand and only turned on the water with my left hand. About a year of this setup I turned my faucet around for a right hand control and hated it, so the next day I flipped it back to the original placement on the left.

Just a thought I’d love to hear feedback. Being a right handed person I prefer my faucet control to be on the left. Presuming I’m carrying something with my right hand to the sink I’ll use the left to turn on the faucet. Same with using a spray want I’ll use my right hand to control it and left to control water. Splitting hairs just my 2 cents, keep up the great videos you’ve helped me a ton with practical solutions I haven’t come up with!

New faucets without supply lines are a pain. But just as bad is when the supply lines won't quite reach. Then you have to find a way to extend the lines. A tech in my company had one last week that was about an inch short.

Not sure where you live, but handyman I used to install 3 ceiling fans including changing out box from plastic to metal worked 4 hours @ $55/ hour plus cost of supplies (metal boxes). Total cost was ~$250.00. Your prices seem high for handyman prices.

I put in just about that same Kohler faucet, a 3-hole sink, for a relative yesterday, free, of course, plus a toilet and 2 showerheads, the instructions, just throw them away, good thing I've done a few. so much left out. It was a touch one, we didn't even realize that, extra steps of hooking up the 6-AA battery pack and the solenoid. The undersink cabinet had a centerbar and 2 small doors, I could barely fit in even though I'm thin. Plus a slightly leaking garbage disposal in the way also. Correction: it was a Delta faucet. Surprised to see the box said limited 5 year warranty, I had thought they and Moen both had lifetime warranty. Moen couple years ago sent me an entire new kitchen faucet free after I emailed them the bottom rusted & leaked, didn't even ask for proof of purchase. I like the Deltas now since they have integrated supply lines. But don't overtighten since if you mess it up you are screwed.

We never get lucky enough with not needing to balance ceiling fans.We have to balance them 25% of the time. I had also noticed that you don't hand tighten the screws for the blades? We normally us an impact tool but follow up with hand tightening as I have found that the impact tool doesn't do a complete job. We follow the same rule of thumb and allow for extra time. Jobs are never as you expect them. Thanks for the video and it's funny that you had such different fans to install. I find this a typical situation as well with multible fan installs in addition to having different ceiling types (vaulted vs. flat).
