I keep all my tools in my pickup truck with diamondback cover and haul materials on top. For the dump I either take out my tools or rent a trailer from tractor supply. Hoping to buy a 5x10 open trailer soon

Allen great video. In my handyman business, I have a 7 x 16 with 7 foot ceiling in my Trailer (awesome amount of room ) . The other thing in my business that we use ALL THE TIME is a Tommy Gate on my F250. Never in my dreams did I every think I would need it that often, but man!!!! It saves our backs almost every day. When I replace the truck, I'll be getting a new one installed.

What kind of van mate? I’m looking at upgrading from my 2015 golf wagon TDI and want to use a dump trailer to 1) do dump runs and 2) use the trailer to get a load of gravel for landscape work when I need it

I agree. I prefer a van for my tools and a trailer for hauling dump debris, picking up bulky materials, etc. Utility trailers are relatively inexpensive (especially compared to a pickup truck), come in lots of different sizes, and can take a lot of abuse without affecting resale value much. I also do a lot of smaller jobs and don't usually have dump debris or lots of materials to haul around. So I only take the trailer out when I need it. Hauling a trailer in urban areas and trying to find parking can also be pain. So I like it to be optional.

At Home Depot here in queens there are guys who sit there all day and they have dump trucks. If I need 1 guy or a whole crew they can mobilize almost immediately. I have had them run by and grab 30-40 bags and I’ve had them do full demo hauls of a building. Nothing touches my truck any more. I include their cost plus on my quotes

I use a 2015 Golf Wagon Diesel. I can tow up to 2000lbs with it, so if I have a dump day I take my 5x8 trailer and use it. Want to upgrade to a van, and have a dump trailer to use, as I have added a battery op mitre and table saw to my tools. I can haul most tools needed for a job with the seats down, but if I have a big van, I won’t have to waste time loading and unloading at home. The van will be able to tow a 5x8 dump trailer for future use. I’ve been getting lots of tile jobs, and I need to bring my tile saw separately to job sites requiring it.

I just got my full contractors licence for WA state, so I’m pretty excited to get an upgrade to a van. I would do what you are doing, but parking securely is an issue for me for the next two years, so I think big sprinter/ pro master van with a small dump or landscape trailer for the dump runs. But for the next 9 months, my TDI will work great as I’m doing a whole basement remodel inclu, 1 bathroom remodel, 1 full new bathroom install into the basement, 1 new kitchen in that basement, and more, basically converting the basement into a seperate 2 br apartment in the house for the owners to move into and rent the upstairs out. My plan is this to keep me busy near full time till spring 2023 and I’ll save money to buy a van/ acquire future jobs, but I already have 2 remodels of rentals for clients in my future… so…Van still I guess, I’d like a bigger trailer possibly for my hard scape work, but not until I buy a house and have the property to park it.

A van you can stand up in and set up for work and tool storage, and a dump trailer are by far the best set up. You can haul large material in it, leave it on site for days if needed, unload it easier than from the back of a truck filled with junk and hooked up to a trailer, and you don't always need it for every job. Plus if it is large enough, you can fill it with junk from multiple jobs and make 1 trip to the dump instead of 3 or 4. The big added bonus is that if you live in a cold climate, you can warm up your tools on the way to the job!!

@handymanjourney
@handymanjourney 2 жыл бұрын
Anytime you put a business decal on a truck you become liable for that truck. If you are an unlicensed contractor, depending on your local laws you may need to state that you are an unlicensed contractor on your vehicle. For instance here in California if you are an unlicensed contractor, which we are you need to state that on all of your vehicles, which we do

I have used both truck and trailer and bubble van. I prefer the bubble van or sprinter van and I miss mine I am going to get my transmission fixed soon so I will be back to the van. Getting a trailer hooked up and loaded is much less efficient than a van that you can just drive away in. Another reason that I dislike the trailer is in cold weather conditions like where I live it is much more of a hassle to turn around on a snowy Street or do anything in snow. I have a trailer right now just like Alan same size and you cannot stand up in it it is the biggest pain not really meant as a construction trailer. My work van you can stand up inside of much better on the back. A lot of your contractors will use a truck and trailer when they cant not afford two vehicles with the truck and trailer you can use your truck for personal reasons. I would like to take a poll but I absolutely hate truck and trailer.
