Thank-you, this is one of the best reviews that I have seen, very informative and answered all of my questions. I am half way through assembling mine just now, I will be running a DLE 30cc. I think it will be plenty power, they are a good engine. Thanks again.

I just got my giant ultra stick today after on a back order from Tower Hobbies. I'll be running a DLE 35RA in it. I hope my cg will be ok. I have plenty of time to build it before the mall show in April. Can't wait to fly it. Great Video.

Hey Will I have a DLE 35RA on mine and put the elevator servos in the rear. It balances perfectly. The manual’s CG is super super conservative. When I measured the recommended CG the plane was tail heavy but I flew it anyways. Couple clicks of trim and it flew straight as an arrow. I use a single 2s 5000 for the rx battery and the ultra bec which eliminated the need for a second battery. Great plane.

My wings become a complete blur when I roll, helps having full span aileron's I also modified the rudder and elevator added counterbalances it hovers just as good as my Extra snaps rolls are insane and it does the craziest pop-top I've ever seen in my life it scared me the first time LOL. I was taught to fly on the original, you can't go wrong with a Stick! Okay enough about me amazing content love how thoroughly you explain everything along the way and you actually fly everything you talk about you're not one of those armchair pilots which preaches nonsense which is awesome! Would love to see a video.. A stik doing a pop top. wow never seen one. So I guess you mixed your flaps and ailerons together like i did on th Timber X? I have always liked the looks of this plane but i really do hate putting planes together. all the used ones for sale have always been to far away maybe one day i will get hands on one.

The Ultra Stick is a great flying airplane. And for the price, you certainly can't beat it. I'm setting mine up with a DLE-30 for now as the DA-35 is on back order. But it should fly just fine with the 30.

Hey Tom, I have the 30cc UltraStik and a DLA 45 to pull it around with,the question I have is how many degrees your flaps are set for and do you need to mix in some up elevator when flaps are deployed? Back in 08 I had the Ultra Stik Lite, I had the flaps on a switch;no elevator mix, so when I hit the flap switch it did an immediate nose down attitude which I rectified by turning the flaps off pronto Enjoy your videos,very informative, like yourself I'm a veteran .Navy 25 years. Thanks for any input you can give me
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet Жыл бұрын
It's been years since I had that plane. I always set whatever flap looks right to me, add a bit of up elevator in the flap system then go fly it and tweak those settings from there. A smart guy would set whatever the manufacturer suggests but that is not something I am accused of very often.

I'm very new to giant size planes and have the exact same plane which I am modifying run electric. I did not see a power distribution system in yours. Is it necessary to run a power distribution board on these large planes? Thanks!
@flyingrcdotnet

Technically it not necessary on any plane, just a ton safer for your investment. I forget what we had in that one initially but I flew it mostly on a Powersafe receiver that had dual batteries.

Thanks again for the quick response on making wing bags for this aircraft. Also running the EME35 with a Pitt's muffler and a bowman ring. Vess 20B prop works well? Any ground clearance issues? Looks kinda close on the workbench...
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 4 жыл бұрын
I never had a clearance problem with the prop and I don't think the guy I sold it to has either. I always use the Vess 20B props on my 35 and 40cc engines, seems to work fine all around.

Hi there. I see you mounted Servos up front versus in rear. I read that with gas engine you might want to install them back in rear to offset heavy engine. The other thing is I was ready to buy this kit but I read 43 reviews and 75% were very negative about quality of covering and some glue joints and one where stabilizer came off on 3 rd flight. What was your experience with kit quality? Im also debating weather to go gas or electric. Electric seems simpler but I would have to run to 5s 5000mah batteries and there pretty pricey. Then gas engines seem more of a hassle with tinkering with all the adjustments. You really have a great voice to listen to on your videos.
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 3 жыл бұрын
I had no issues with the Ultra Stick kit. In bigger planes like this I prefer gas engines. Electric works for sure but the price and weight of the big batteries, for me, makes gas the better option. By the way, with a good gas engine adjustments are not a regular thing. I have gas engines that have not be re-tuned for a couple years so far.

Don't know if you're still monitoring this review, but I just acquired a gently used ultrastick 30cc and, new to gas, i'm wondering whether you have any tips on that long throttle linkage. with a "golden rod" linkage. Most of my throttle response is between idle and half stick on transmitter. Looking to get a smoother response.
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet Жыл бұрын
I always use a metal throttle rod with the servo as far forward as I can get it. short no-flex rod works for me, I do set end points to be sure the servo is not running up against a limit.

very nice video, wondering about if you now fly with flap elevator mix,,,curious as to the settings , thx
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 2 жыл бұрын
I sold this plane long ago but with all flap-equipped planes I would dial in some elevator correction to keep the lane level to just a tick nose down on landing. The planes manual gives the initial settings and from there I would tweak that to get the handling I like.

Hi; Today I finished to install the tail & stabilizer of my Ultra Stick 30cc. I used Epoxy 15 min but after reading the manual it mentions to use Epoxy 30 min. Do you think I will get roible because if that ? Thanks.
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 4 жыл бұрын
If you had good epoxy coverage on the parts and the glue was still wet when assembled you should be fine. I expect lots of people use 15 minute epoxy. I use 30 minute for about everything just to be safe and because I am not in a hurry these days!
@daleintampa
@daleintampa 4 жыл бұрын
No. The only advantage to using longer curing epoxy is to give you more time to work. If you get her done before the epoxy sets up. Your all good to go.

Hi Mr Thintz Can you please measure from nose to tail your Ultra 30? My truck bed is 78 inches. I'm going Electric so engine shouldn't stick out as much as gas. I want to make sure it will fit before I order plane. I could put it in diagonally also. Also can you send info to order that fancy tail wheel. Also reviews said landing gear is to low. I see you don't have wheel pants on. Did you put bigger tires on? I'm using Eflite 160 motor with 2 5s 5000mah in series per manual. I can buy 10s from Hobby King for $105. I wonder if it would fit.
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have the Stick anymore as I have to sell my planes to fund the next review but that figure is in the model description on the horizon site. I seldom put wheel pants on because I am addicted to touch and goes and fly off grass which makes wheel pants more of a problem. As with all my planes I put on larger tires for all the above reasons.

I am trying to do the balancing, I mounted the 30cc DLE and to put the CG at 4" I need to add 26oz to the fire wall is this normal?
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 2 жыл бұрын
That does not sound right at all. I would start over on the CG, making very sure you have the location right before doing anything else. I don't remember where the CG was but I always start in the middle of the range the manual suggests. Did you add anything towards the rear of the plane that could be contributing to the nose weight needed?

@thintz12 Did you use the CA hinges? Or did you use hinge points?
@flyingrcdotnet

Did you cover the hole in the firewall behind the carb on yours?
@flyingrcdotnet

Nope, never do cover that hole, in fact made many of them larger. That makes it easier for the carb to breath. Fuel proof it with thinned epoxy but I always leave the hole open.
